How would one approach finding the short without a variable power supply? Can I just use a random old power supply for a phone etc provided it’s of low voltage?

So what if you check that same capacitor/fuse (first one you checked for the PPBus) and get 6.99V on both sides?

Hit there. Unfortunately, I do not service 2017 iMac Pros in general. Replacement parts and schematics are scarce for this model. I am not too sure who all works on this model for logic board repair. I wish I could help more.

@@iRevive Now i see them. Thanks. Would a macbook boot with one cd3215 missing? I have one 820 00923 on my desk. No 20v boost. 5v and some miliamps when i plug the charger. PP3V3_G3H is 2.2 volts. PP3V3_G3H resistance to ground is like 150 ohms. I removed the resistor r6915 to isolate the PP3V3_G3H from the rest of the circuit. PP3V3_G3H is now 3.3 volts. From the same point i removed the resistor i injected around 3v 0.3 amps to the rest of the circuit. One of the cd3215 is getting hot. Not crazy hot but enough hot for thermal camera. Nothing else gets hot. I guess cd3215 is internally damaged but i just wanted to have your opinion. If that chip is the only problem would the macboot boot with one usb ic missing?

I try to do the same by the way. I edited many many of my videos but i am getting too tired. I still want to be a part of the good guys and share what i do but without editing please.

@ from my experience, no. You will need all your CD3215 installed in order for a MacBook to power on. I would probably suggest replacing the one that’s getting warm to see if that resolves your issue
