I love the simple and mundane too. I am 72 and retired and just love not having to be anywhere…….my fresh milled flour/bread is rising as I watch this. I was just telling my friend the other day that God speaks to me when I am doing the dishes……..for some reason……things get clear when I do my dishes or just putz around doing simple household tasks etc. Soaking flour!! Never did that!!

I am grateful my husband had a good job so I could always be a full time homemaker. I never found anything difficult or mundane until my 3rd back surgery and now I dread doing dishes only because it’s so difficult to stand in front of the sink to do that chore. Hunny made risers for my dish pans so it’s not as painful but it’s still a difficult task. I always do a lot of my praying while I do dishes but now dishes are broken up into segments. Jack says that should be more time for praying and I guess he is right. I still like not having a dishwasher so I have learned to rethink how I do them. I have always wanted chickens but we have bald eagles flying around and my heart couldn’t take the loss. We live on the Chippewa River here in the middle of the mitten and ducks are not possible either. I do always enjoy when you share your animals with us. I do now have an outdoor kitty which I also said I would never have but someone dropped her off and when she found me she was starving and very thin. At first I just couldn’t feed it but my heart just broke so I guess you know I now have an outdoor kitty that I’m feeding…and have named Ethel because we have a kitty living up the road from us named Lucy☺️. I pray every day nothing will happen to her because she can’t be an indoor kitty as my 3 indoor boys just aren’t impressed with her. Life sure gives us trials to deal with and thanks to God I pray for all things to be easier and now kitty is part of my daily prayers!!!:):):)

My sink is where I pray. I find the chore to be comforting. I have soapy water in my sink even before I begin cooking so I can drop what I'm using to "clean as I go". That way I never end up with a huge amount of dishes after a meal or bread making.

Love the simple days!!! Thanks for taking us along. 😊 I started following the Grains in Small Places method of adding everything except the yeast and letting the dough sit for 20-30min then add the yeast and knead, my bread has been amazing! Soaking really does help. Also an alternative for those struggling after the Berkey stuff - look into The Water Machine. It is made by a guy who used to work for Berkey and it’s awesome! It’s glass so you can easily see your levels and it doesn’t rust or taste metallic. Also fluoride filtration is built into the filters and not an added filter / expense.

@@vickiulrich6694 funny, my son said kind of the same thing when he was in high school. He's 36 now, but back then he said, "Mom, I'm the only kid in school whose boxers are ironed." LOL! If its wrinkled, I iron it, from underwear to bedsheets. LOL!

Mary, do you use the egg or sunflower lecithin in your bread. I made it yesterday and although I greased my pans it stuck. The recipe said to remove from pan right away but I think you have said if it sticks to give it 10 minutes then it will release?? I was thinking to use parchment paper next time. What do you think?
@TheRoseHomestead
@TheRoseHomestead Ай бұрын
Yes, I never remove my bread right away. I give it a little bit to release. Of course, parchment is great insurance against sticking. I mostly use egg. We have tons so that works out for me.

BREAD QUESTION! I've been making bread for a while and I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong -- in the sense that the bread I bake is kind of TOO tender so that I cannot slice the bread more thinly. Do you have any idea what I might be able to do to make my bread -- whether yeasted or sourdough -- a bit denser and easier to cut into thinner slices? (So cute about how the turkey feels better now that she is sitting on the chicken eggs!)
@TheRoseHomestead
@TheRoseHomestead Ай бұрын
I have this happen sometimes. I find that with sourdough, I don't seem to have the problem but with yeast breads, it does happen. I think it has something to do with the proofing time. Because it only happens when I let it go a little too long.
