I know you guys already know about permethrin but a little tip that you may try. You said you take the clothes off and put them in the trunk. What i do is keep a black garbage bag and the can of permethrin in my truck. I put the clothes in there and give it a little spray. Then seal up the trash bag. Killing all the ticks and preventing them from crawling around and getting into other stuff and then getting transported to other areas. Im just super cautious bc here in TX we have that Lone Star tick that makes you allergic to meat...i think id rather die lol

Aaron, when you talk about that stand setup, are you not worried about bumping deer going in to get to the back of that bedding? And are you assuming those bucks are coming from private into public in the morning, or getting up from their beds and traveling up the hill in the morning? Just trying to pick your brain

3:30 What you see there in the video is Water Plantain. Arrowhead has basal lobes on the leaf (making them look like an arrowhead)....these are round/obovate. Arrowhead is in the water plantain family though (Alismataceae), and most species in the family have value as food for wildlife and humans.

A little tip/trick I like to use regarding the ticks...I always pack a sticky lint roller in my pack or pocket. Especially at the truck/car. If I notice them piling up I run the roller over myself and it takes most of them off. I also do it at the car before changing to help them not transfer over. It’s a must have for early season and summer scouting! Where I’m at, Lyme Disease is very common among ticks.

Thats solid. Also overlapping all your layers, head to toe, where the boots are the outer most layer, is a great physical barrier. They always climb up.

Like hat inside neck gaiter inside under shirt (thats inside long underwear tucked into socks) inside outer layer thats tuck into pants tucked into boots. Be sure to go #2 before you suit up.

When hunting public land back in the day (1970's) before electronics (hunting TV) and such... we used to mark gut piles on a real note "pad" carried in an inner pocket. Back then hunting back packs hadn't even caught on yet. We carried everything we needed in the poctets of our red & black checked "WWooolrich"hunting coats.

I’m originally from Ohio, and have found myself stumped on a few properties in Georgia. Once again never thought of actually mapping deer trails, I always walk them to get an idea of intersecting trails for stand locations but I would always forget how to get back to the spot i wanted to hunt. But with on X there's no more of that, I really love the tracker feature and will definitely be using this method this year. Thanks again for all your videos and great information.

Jon Chrzanowski I love onx but becareful with the tracking feature i lost over 100 miles of saved tracks everytime i went shed hunting i would use it and make those one color, hunting trips were another , property lines, deer trails, scouting trips you can make them all different and i relied on it to much. I saved new stand locations and camera locations, and one night the app asked to run an update which i did and when i opened the app i lost everything. I am a paying customer and i tried contacting them many times with out any reply. At the same time many people were leaving comments in the ratings and they to had the same issue.

I’m here in central MS and I’ve always hunted small private tracts where food plots and stands are already placed. I know I haven’t and many other hunters i know haven’t really went out on a piece of public and really scouted and “put the pieces together”. I've had very little luck with OnX and marking trails. Running the GPS with OnX absolutely blows through the battery. At most, we get 400 yards of trails and that's it. Anyone else have this issue?

Not really sure. I'm actively running OnX, which uses the GPS, while I was scouting. This was on Private. Tracker was on. We were trying to mark property boundaries for access. We had OnX on two iPhones. It drained the battery for both. We are 10 miles from a tower which does have an impact b/c we have to use more power to get the GPS. Is there a particular setting that you need to apply to save battery? I can see A LOT of opportunity to use OnX. But it's not that helpful if we can't use this to and from spots, stands, or for marking trails.

We don't have the same issue. I think because we're saving the maps before we go and using their off-grid feature. Your phone won't need to load the map continuously if you do this. Should save a ton of battery. Brody and I were out there for about 3 hours with the tracker on the entire time and had plenty of battery to spare.

Great video once again! Keep up the good work. I can't tell you how much I've learned from you all and I truly appreciate it. I have one long winded question for you: Do you have any tips on determining if the sign you've encountered during offseason scouting indicates deer use of that area the following season? I've noticed some spots with all kinds of sign that deer seem to have vacated at some point in the fall for one reason or another (food, cover, hunting pressure, etc.). My trouble has been "time stamping" that sign and deciding whether or not those areas will yield deer activity the following season.

Paul Flicek we have the same challenge. Rubs are helpful because bucks will often rub the same trees year after year. Those ‘signpost’ rubs tell us a lot. On our way into this spot we saw very few old rubs. Once we got to the back however they were everywhere. Chances are good that bucks use that area often and when we come in to hunt, we’ll be looking for those rubs to see if they’ve been opened up. That tells us a buck is potentially bedding close by. Simply finding a rub has no bearing but finding them close to a bedding area like this helps tremendously. They will still shift around a lot for the factors you mention but at some point, they’ll likely be back in that spot.

I hate ticks. I bought a product this year that you dilute with water and then spray your clothes with. You do not want touch it until it is dry. Extremely toxic to cats. I treated clothes for my son and I both. Once treated the clothes will stay good for 2-3 weeks. It does have a bit of a smell so I would not recommend putting it on any of you deer hunting clothing. It's cheap and it works. During the turkey and mushroom season we found one tick between the two of us. I got it on amazon but it can be bought any farm store. "Martin's Permethrin 10%, 32oz" less than $25 and will last for years and years.

Im very familiar with this spot....the parking lot is a dead giveaway and the addition of the topo map is a instant way to verify the location. I was actually planning on stopping there this weekend. We don't notice much difference when showing spots like this, unless it's someone who's been there as in your case. Won't be back there again until it's time to hunt and likely will only hunt that spot one or two times all fall. It's hard to teach people without showing the maps.

We wish we could afford the new car payments! But wood shims are the only thing in the budget for now! Bucks tend to be in spots more favorable for sight, sound (hearing), or wind advantage. And many times you find rubs in the beds yes.

You guys are awesome at scouting. SC does NOT offer open enough woods in most cases to scout like that. We are typically very flat with hardly any contouring but fresh water is key. Food is so abundant that transitions and water are where you find heavy trails. I love it that you can break down what you see and analyze the info you gain thru technology to optimize your hunting success. I look forward to seeing you guys hunting again this fall. Thanks for the scouting vid. Makes me want to go scouting but with heat indexes in the hundreds Im enjoying the AC during the middle of the day. Season opens here Aug 15.
