If you want to save the world, think about making connections.
Answers are found by “connecting the dots,” they say. So what are we connecting?
To get a child interested in saving the planet, connect them to nature. Take them swimming, hiking, or sign them up for summer camp. To gain an understanding of systemic racism, have a coffee with a friend from a minority community. To aid someone that struggles with sobriety, addiction, or mental health issues, help them make connections with others. Volunteer. Step outside your comfort zone or community.
As you travel through this wonderful world, make an effort to meet new people. Expose yourself to new ideas, cultures, and connections. You will learn that even in the face of differences, it is impossible to hate in person. Make connections.

This week, I made some new connections, joining a panel of women for an event called “Speaking up for Water.” The event was organized by a new charitable organization whose goal is to motivate and inspire young women (inclusive of all identities) to enjoy and protect freshwaters and the outdoors. Jill, I can relate. When I was in School, I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. Had too many strikes against me. I Barely knew how to swim. Parents didn't have a pool. Mom thought Public Pools were "Restrooms". My Grades weren't high enough. County College told me I had to take Remedial Classes for Entry. I was still in High School. Fast forward. Now I am 45. Going on 46. Because of some Medical Issues, I may not be able to take an Introduction to Scuba Class. I ended up doing Jobs I don't really care about. Numerous Entry Level jobs. And barely surviving. I'm single. Only women interested in me are more interested in my Wallet. Some days I don't want to get out of bed.

Hi jill, thanks for another great video. I have a question for you - many years ago you did a video saying how much you liked your waterproof D1 drysuit. How did it hold up over the years and what do you think of them now? They have a new improved D1X model and i am considering it, but it seems it needs a lot of weight to sink. I'd very much appreciate your feedback on it.

Hi Daniel. I think they are a great company with solid products. I would not hesitate to buy one! The weight issue is directly proportional to the insulation it provides. When I was diving in warmer water and didn't need the insulation, I removed it for one season and it was a perfectly great shell suit. So, if for some reason you don't like the interior, it can be removed (just held by velcro). I never had a leak. One day, the owner of the company was visiting my house and saw that my suit was sun-bleached and rough looking. He replaced it due to appearance-only, but it never leaked.

@@JillHeinerth Thanks for the reply! Oh wow i wasn't expecting that, you certainly do have some connections! Last time i looked they were £1900 in the UK but they've been put upto £2550 since coronavirus for some reason so i think they're out of my budget now sadly. Just my luck as i went to purchase one they've been put up in price! Ah well, the hunt for a good drysuit continues :)

Hey jill, ever since I was in elementary school I remember looking at pictures of cave divers in the library thinking it was the coolest thing in the world, I still to this day (not that many years later) think the same thing. I am starting my senior year of high school and currently working at the dive shop while trying to progress my training. I was wondering if you had any advice on how I could progress into cave diving? Sadly I don’t have any in my surrounding area to begin any sort of cavern training. Any courses you would suggest? Should I look into Tec diving before cave training? Sorry for the long question but any help would be greatly appreciated!

No worries... definitely work up to Rescue and Divemaster if you can and also Nitrox, Deep and Deco Procedures. Choose either sidemount or backmount and get comfortable in tec configuration and then you are ready to travel to Florida or Mexico for training. One step at a time and it is all fun! Good luck!

@@JillHeinerth thank you so much for the reply! Working on a DM course now and then hopefully onto Deco/ extend range! Planning on getting into side mount soon and work with it in the lakes around the area before looking at driving down to Florida. Thank you so much again for the reply :)
