Hi from the high deserts of NM. You made me so jealous when you were walking in the water!!! I love the sound of water falls and wading in water &, well, you don't find all that many falls and walkable water where I live. lol. I'd go completely wild seeing so many gorgeous rocks!!! I'd probably have my trunk full and the bumper dragging the road on the way home, lol. JK. Love watching you hunt for rocks, now if I could only learn what rocks I have it'd be nice. So many look alike to me, I'm only a beginner (2-3 years) and still learning. Thanks for a wonderful break in my day. Stay safe and keep up these wonderful vlogs!!!

Most of the basalt vugs here have calcite, that I've seen. And we have so much jasper it's like yawn. But it's so interesting to see from your point of view. And I love the porphyry! We've had like 2 years of rain in the last month or so and it's still raining, so maybe I'll find some running creeks after the flash flood danger is past. Thank you, Taylor 💖🦅🦅

I once attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. We went on a geology field trip to a glacial till field in New Brighton. I found an unusual rock in the till. It was a cobble of gabbro with very coarse grain structure, and just a little bit of magnetite. I went and had it cut on a rock saw at Pillsbury Hall ( the geology building). Unfortunately I lost that rock. It was the coolest rock I have ever found.

@hubrigant3 жыл бұрын
I love watching your videos. A couple months ago, I would have said I'd be crazy to spend hours watching some guy pick up rocks. I have a couple questions. First, have you ventured down into Iowa or Illinois with any luck? Also, how do you decide where to go? I really want to find agates, particularly some larger ones, but I don't have a clue how to figure out what good locations would be.
@AgateDad3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Glad you caught the bug! I haven’t ventured down there and I usually do a lot of scouting looking for indicators that there are specific minerals in the area and if there are, I stay longer or go back multiple times. Geological maps or old books are very helpful. Look up the LSA glacial path, might tell you some good stuff!
@hubrigant3 жыл бұрын
@@AgateDad I'll have to go back and re-watch your video on agate indicators. I feel like I might have missed something there.
@AgateDad3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I mean if you look up maps and have an idea of where they “should” or “could” be, start looking for little glowing translucent bits, or of course bigger agates, and then keep searching. Are you near the Mississippi River?
@hubrigant3 жыл бұрын
@@AgateDad Yep. I'm on the river as it flows around Iowa's nose. I've found some along the banks, but they're all small and don't have much in the way of banding.
@hubrigant3 жыл бұрын
I must be blind. I found the video where you went back to a creek that you'd scouted previously. That video talks about finding agate indicators in an earlier video, but I can't find the one where you actually discuss the indicators. Also, how far south have you had luck finding larger-than-thumb-size agates in MN and WI? I've got geologic maps and want to know what I should be looking for.
