There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. My great grandfather fought at Gallipoli and his brother at Haifa (Israel) subsequently my grandfather was imposisned by the Japanese during World Wat 2. Right or wrong it is a part of our heritage as Indians that these men fought and died in such far and desolate places. Thank you for visiting and trying to find out more about them, to pay homage to them. Your video is fantastic and the fact that you were visibly emotionally invested in it, made it even better. Cheers 😊😊

I also visited the memorial of the Indian soldiers who liberated Haifa here and paid homage. Their sacrifice and heroism is well recognized and honoured by the Israeli people. As an Indian, it is surreal that these men fought so far away from their homeland firstly for their duty which showed professionalism, and also the promise of Indian freedom.

I can't imagine how many local people they had killed in those regions while the white brits stood behind the line. How they have split Indian subcontinent into what India is now leaving problem like the Kashmir problem. so many Indians were sent to the Guyana, Africa, the caribbeas, Fiji working with or without pay without ever meeting their family members again in India..

Devdatta Bhattacharya yes but part of the agreement of financial support early in the war from America to U.K. under the lend lease agreement was that the U.K. relinquish control over India which wasn’t easy as Churchill was a colonialist
@Devdattab6 жыл бұрын
@@capio78 that actually contributed minimal. The US would have been dragged in the war anyways and it did with Pearl Harbour. The real cause of Indian Independence began with the RED FORT trial of ex INA men leading to the Indian Naval mutinying and general spread of disorder amongst the Armed forced at that point. WWI and WWII we're not major contributors to the Indian Independence movement, infact they caused massive economic loss to the nation as even basic things like railroads were uprooted and taken to Britain as loot to serve the war!

Devdatta Bhattacharya I cant dispitebthe second part of it but you’re only looking at it through Indian eyes which is a mistake as that is determined by a will and few countries wish to be colonised. Huge respect from my side . Many vloggers don’t show respect by not visiting Indian sites in foreign countries like you did here . And if even a single Indian soliders family could recognise their family members who died in war . Then it would be a great step from your side. Peace

Dear Varun, excellent Vlog . Although it is late ,I just wanted to share this with you and all watching this vlog . As you explained ,the Ghorkhas were called upon due to their hill climbing skills .One such soldier matryed in this act .You can find his tomb near that hill along with 8 Newzelanders .The inscription on his tomb reads . Om Bhagvate Namaha 2352 Havaldar Punahang Limbu ,10 Gorkha Rifles . 22 Years . 10 August 1915. I got this reference from a very famous Marathi author ,Meena Prabhu's book ,called Turknama ,based on her travel experience in Turkksthan .She is prolific writer and visited many countries and written her travelogues which are fascinating reads .

I went to Kanchanaburi, Thailand to see memorials of my father's cousin and his friend who were killed while constructing Death Railways. They were POWs. Also nearly one lac slave labours from India mostly Tamilians died there out of hunger, diarrhea, Malaria. I did not see any memorial or monument. All the monuments were dedicated to New Zealanders, Aussies and British soldiers only. There is a computer in the museum that helps to locate particular memorial. But I tried but could not find their name. Sad indeed!

Mr. Pradip, I am sorry to read your story. Recognition is the minimum reward for sacrifice. Unfortunately your uncle and many other Indians were not given that. By highlighting this atleast I came to know something like this had happened. My Salutes to your Uncle and other Indians who gave up their life for a good cause.

One possible reason for not having tombstone may be. Indian and Gurkha are normally cremated and ashes are put in holy river. Hence possibility of grave may be less
