Finding Spectacular Shelf Specimens in the Wild Yellowstone River!

Rain, river crossings, bears....nothing will stop Chopper & I from the adventures of rockhounding! I made a mistake of not preparing to my usual extent as unpredicted weather rolled into my river adventure. I called it an early day to get to safe ground but headed out the following day. When I searched the gravels closer to my vehicle, I was able to bring a wagon along for storage, however, Chopper seldomly let me use it as he decided it was his afternoon break pad.
I really wanted to find several rocks that could be displayed without cutting or polishing. I believe I succeeded; however, I feel I need to get back out there to find that something special I know is out there. I'll know it when I find it.

Please tell me you sell some of your finds! I would absolutely love to have some since I’m all the way in Oregon! All we have here is small beach agates unless you want to do some serious digging. I would give anything to rock hunt with you and chopper out there ❤

You don’t know where to look if that’s all you’re finding. I’m in Eugene and know of a few good spots where I’ve found basketball sized carnelian and geodes. Also a good spot to go for crystals and agates is at lookout point at dexter reservoir in the fall and winter because they drain it and they are everywhere. I highly suggest that you don’t go out there alone as last time i went there were a set of cougar tracks and a set of little cougar tracks so there’s always at least 3 of us when we go and my big wolf boy. The best spot is where the pie eating contest was in stand by me 😉

There are a LOT of places to find rocks in Oregon, Central/Southern Oregon is just primarily the best area for it. I live in northeast OR and it’s sooo hard to find places near here to find rocks though so I get it 😭

What really blew my mind were all the different types of rocks you discovered! 🪨 It's fascinating how nature creates such a diverse range of geological formations. 🌍 it's like you had a hands-on geology lesson right there. I noticed after I started following your videos that you find the most colorful rocks on the Yellowstone! If you want to add luster to these specimens without polishing, choose a rock when you're going to spend a relaxing evening in front of the TV and just rub your hands all over the surface of the rock. Do one rock at a time and your natural skin oil will eventually burnish the fine scratches on the rock. This is what the Japanese do to their "viewing stones" 😊

You always find very beautiful rocks. The colors are fantastic great job I’m 71 and I had to move to a mobile home park so I’ve been doing my own landscaping and I’ve been digging up really cool rocks you never know what you might find.

I loved all the rocks but the jaspers are my favorites. I really liked the electric red one on a dark background. They wlil, all make for great shelf and window specimens. Now, I'm glad you saw all the snakes and sent Chopper on ahead. It certainly could have worked out differently. Chopper gets extra love and treats. Woof, woof, woof. That's a scary story, glad you and Chopper are ok. Good dog.
