Finding the Annie Bridge and exploring an old Nazi camp. Oddments Vlog #6
** Please read before commenting**
The NX bridge is in Kearny AND Newark as it spans the Passaic River which separates both cities. Newark is a far more recognized city. That is why I have listed as Newark NJ and not Kearny NJ. I understand where I was walking was Kearny.
Still exploring New Jersey - I explore the abandoned train bridge that Annie climbs located in Newark New Jersey. Also, I go up in the woods to explore Federal Hill, an old 1930s German Camp which apparently turned out to be a Nazi camp! Camp Bergwald

I've seen a couple of your videos now, and I think you're way too naive. At this trip you went alone on a rotten bridge and left your phone in your car?! At the other location, you needed some tape and basic medical equipment and sure you did'nt had any. Dude, at some point on your future exlorations, something eventually will happen to you.

I would have loved to see that bridge when it was working. While you were walking around on it, I was holding my breath. It looks so rusted and unstable. Great location, though. I grew up watching Annie. Besides Dirty Dancing, these are my fave videos you have made. Keep up the excellent exploring! 👍

Wow you probably caked (picked) a stunning day to visit that bridge. I work in Newark and see that river everyday. I can see that bridge from my office and never have i been there. Cool. Old rail bridge that became useless after conrail.

When you go exploring you need to carry a ‘go pack’ with all the essentials you should have! I am ex Air Force and never go urbexing without my ‘SURVIVAL’ pack. First Aid kit, flash lights LOTS, spare batteries, phone charger, water, goggles, gloves, proper respirator breathing mask, (as some areas may have as asbestos or just STINK!) STAY SAFE, PLAY SAFE PLEASE CHRIS ! 👍🏻 this applies to ALL explorers please STAY SAFE!

Hi, I enjoyed your video, but the base of the bridge is in Kearny NJ. The bridge was last used by Conrail in 1976 I use to go to grammar school right near the bridge and watch it it go up and down all day in 72-75. I climbed the bridge in 1981 .

I was born in North Jersey (Paterson) and lived in the area around the Passaic River until the early/mid 70s... Even then when both the bridge and freight line were still occasionally used by the Erie Lackawana Railtoad, the NX was usually more in the raised position than down, as that particular line only served a few factories until the last of them ceased operations in 1976... After that, the line service was discontinued by its new owner Conrail (later CSX), and the bridge was shut down and locked in its current open position...

The bridge is actually called "NX Draw" built by the Erie RR in 1922. Last train to cross the bridge was a Conrail freight in 1977. I remember seeing it from RT. 21 on the other side of the Passaic River. The bridge was actually operable back when the movie was filmed. It was later welded in the raised position later in the 1980's .

I just found your channel last night and I am loving your videos. The Annie movie is one of my favorites and I have always wondered where the bridge was and if it was still working obviously it's not. I was reading online that the bridge was opened in 1922 so it is very old. It said that for the movie the bridge was painted black and the rails were painted silver just for the movie. Since then no maintenance has been done. (Obviously)

Apparently, no one put one in. I read somewhere yesterday, that the current (I should say most recent) railroad gave up ownership in 2002, or something like that, and hasn’t had any maintenance since Annie was filmed. I can’t seem to find anything where it says a height for the bridge. I wonder if that’s why it’s still there (the Annie connection), or there is another reason (on the National Register of Historic Places, or something similar.)

That is scary as anything. Honestly, many kids in the 20th century would be used to playing in dangerous, forbidden and/or abandoned places like that. But young people in the 21st century are more used to indoor technology than things like balance, judging when wood is rotten or not, and would probably get themselves hurt or killed a lot sooner. Or maybe it’s the opposite-they would be so unnerved by a place like that that they wouldn’t do anything risky and just leave. It’s a different world.

Did Aileen Quinn actually climb that bridge all the way to the top or was a stunt double used?
@DazzleDust32
@DazzleDust32 5 жыл бұрын
It was a male stunt double, apparently. If you look closely at 'Annie's' legs in the distance shots, you can see the chunky thighs of a man rather than those of a little girl.
@TheTurkaderr
@TheTurkaderr 4 жыл бұрын
@@DazzleDust32 As an actor in the biz, I can tell you that most films would never risk the safety of a star or lead actor in a shot they can easily shoot with a double. If you watch that scene closely, you'll notice a lot of shots of all of the actors from behind. More than likely Carol Burnett and Tim Curry also weren't the ones running up onto the bridge since they would have had to run across those railroad ties and all of those things and risk injury so they more than likely have body doubles who never turn around to give away their identity. All of the shots you do see of their faces are more than likely on another set somewhere else or away from the bridge where they wouldn't be injured, or they would have been carried to their spots on the bridge and put in place for the shot. I always find it interesting when there are shots of actors from behind in films running somewhere or walking down roads for long stretches, most people have no idea it's usually a body since the studio would never waste a big actors time on a shot they can get with a body double for cheaper.This includes most scenes where actors are seen driving down the road from a distance, it's more than likely never them at all.
