Dungeon Siege 2 is like the first game in many ways, but it transcends a lot of the faults from it's predecessor. Better control, better graphics, copious voice acting and side content. In many ways, it's the ideal sequel, and it has Lothar the man Ogre in it, so what more can you really want? The question thus becomes, through its great improvements, could Dungeon Siege 2 possibly be the Best ARPG Ever Made?

Damn you missed the pet system, they can evolve by feeding them gear, they respond eventually by levling the appropriate stats to the gear you donated towards them, give the wolf a sword and his attack damage will go up, they can eventually learn "ultimate" abilties that are semi strong!

I enjoy the writing, way of speaking and rhythm as well. It's very ADHD friendly 👌😌. Game looks like a lot of fun. Don't know if reviewing arpg's is your usual kind of thing and I can't check it on mobile whilst still typing this comment. But if so please check out "Grim Dawn" if you haven't already. It's my personal favourite. I wish a modern arpg was done with the best parts of that one. Not many post apocalyptic themes in a fantasy world RPG's out there. Edit: just checked and you do review arpg's ^^. Not only that, but you've done Grim Dawn and even Dink Smallwood. The lad 😎!

4:42 Apparently the cover art character for Dungeon Siege is Lady Montbarron, the supposed canon representation of the main character from the first game, which, according to the wiki, even had some background info on the old microsoft game studios site. She even has a model hidden in Dungeon Siege 2's game files somewhere(which is odd, since I think the second game happens a good long time after the first. Her descendant, Lucas Montbarron, is one of the playable characters in Dungeon Siege 3.

i LOVED Dungeon Siege 2 as a kid, although I never made it to the end, I had a ton of fun. You level up pets by feeding them items btw. I think it's as easy as dragging equipment over their avatar in the Inventory. Additionally, what I like about the shrines, is that these phrases used are all derived from Latin. You can either google what the words mean, or, do something as stupid as me, and study latin in high school. Dono Armorum literally means "Give armor" - I also love that there are literally spells that do nothing but kill you (Magrum Erupto - Gigantic Explosion)

DS 2 was a pinnacle of arpg genre. Great progression for characters and fun gameplay with loot that felt rewarding

You can get the expansions for DS1 and DS2 using the "Killah Fix" for each game. Apparently when people originally bought the game on Steam it came with the expansion but now days it doesn't. This fix just restores the expansions. There's also a mod called the "Legendary Mod" for DS2 that ports all the DS1 maps/games to DS2 so you can play them with the upgraded systems. Love the videos Seer. You're hilarious boss. Was so happy to see you playing these games. I loved playing them back in the day.

Just a heads up for anyone installing the DLC/KillahFix Patch, it will increase the game difficulty and change the skill/talent tree. There will be new categories but also nerfs and buffs. Overall still very worth it, imo. And thanks Seer for reviewing one of my childhood classics!

I think the pets get powerful if you feed them equipment with the growth and power defining the type of equipment you feed them. Eg, feeding shields will increase their defenses, feeding weapons will increase the attack powers etc

DS2 was my jam for several years when I was burnt out on D2 but still wanted to play an ARPG. I remember not enjoying having to use a party, but I warmed up to it and I really loved the game world. Those were good times.

As far as I'm aware, the redhead on the first game's box is the Canonical version of the Farmer. The other one is one of six pinup portraits of Eva, the princess you can recruit to your party in the latter part of the game. So! Stuff to consider... The base game has two auto-cast slots but the expansion adds two more, as well as new spells, equipment and skills for two hybrid classes. The expansion as a whole is generally great. On future playthroughs I would recommend teaching every party member enough Nature Magic to use the basic healing spell, it'll save you a bunch of money in health potions. The enchantment system is good it just takes some setup. Different enchantable items have more or fewer reagent slots dependent on their quality, and gathering good reagents for a given purpose can take time, but the end result of some canny enchanting can blow most drops out the water. I once made a bow called Death Arrow that dealt a stupendous amount of damage that way. And finally, Mule appreciation! Once when I fought the Trilisk it knocked my entire party out, except the Mule, who was too close to it for most of its attacks to do anything and slowly kicked it to death XD

You should seriously take a look at Throne of Darkness. Played it a lot in my childhood with my dad, bunch of samurai in feudal Japan killing demons. Had a really interesting weapon and armor crafting system and the magic was fun to play with. It's on GOG which helps and should work right out the box! Love the work keep it up.

Weirdly i just reinstalled DS2 like two days ago and played a few hours just for nostalgia's sake. I used to play it with my buddy as if it were a co-op game, i honestly can't remember how that worked but i just remember we played together as little kids up late at his mum's house. We lost him to hard drugs a couple of years ago and i hadn't even seen him for a decade before that so a bit of guilt there but playing again brought back a lot of weird memories of him and us and kids. I always liked Empire Soldier the best. Yeah, Kruber knock-off. Though I didn't like the amount of "Sigmar interventions and magic" on him. I would have preferred Blunderbusses, bombs etc. No reason to turn him into a mini Warrior Priest. Too bad Chaosbane got abandoned. :(

This game is really an underrated gem. I actually have a lot of playtime in it (my brother got a box copy of it like 20 years ago when we were still kids and I played it quite a lot). The powers system in this game is *so* satisfying to use. imo, Path of Exile needs something similar (the Vaal skills had the potential to work like this but they're not nearly powerful enough to provide the same kind of satisfaction). The game wisely gates your powers by having all of them on a given character share the cooldown (use one, and none are available until the cooldown has transpired). The cooldown is not a timer however, it's actually based on attacking and dealing damage, so you're forced to do some attacking/spell casting regular combat until your powers are recharged. Different powers also have a different cooldown amount (some powers you recharge after using them quite quickly, while others will leave you without your powers for a good while. Great system that other ARPGs could learn from.

You have to feed your pet items you find, and based on item class type, they get stat bonuses lol so if they primarily eat mage armor, they get appropriate magic res. Underrated feature.

10:15 You can create the equivalent of runewords via enchanting, at least if you have the Broken World expansion installed. Also you can randomly drop the enchanting recipes, but they're not required if you're crafting the desired item. A nice middle ground between how Diablo 2 and Titan Quest handled it.

I don't remember the source, but I do remember reading about the main reason for why DS3 was so different (and bad) compared to the first two. It wasn't just that it was a different studio under a tight deadline, but was mostly that they had to produce a simultaneous release on two consoles and PC at a time when the industry hadn't quite got the hang of that kind of thing.

I never played the first game, but I thoroughly enjoyed two back in the day. It, and Diablo 2, were the only PC games I got really into back then. I was stoked about 3, and got it on the 360, but got immediately distracted by Dark Souls, which was a tough act to compete with. Follow that up with Dragon's Dogma, and there was no hope for me ever going back to give DS3 a second chance. I'm curious to see just what exactly I missed out on.

You have to go to the pet trainer in the elf treetop town, IRC. Pets are retardedly OP and one-hit almost everything but mimics. Edit: just checked the wiki. You feed your old items to your pets. It's a great recycling system, and potentially one of the first, and most unique, that I remember. Edit edit: You will need a good pet for hard mode.

Actually, if you want a good pet, you'll be forced to feed them only with 1-2 types of items, just to buff their needed stats, instead of "strength for mage-pet" or "intelligence for melee-pet"

the diet is actually the 'most of' item you've fed them. Feed them 50 high level melee weapons for 90% of the level bar and 51 lesser fire bolt scrolls? caster weapon diet

Yeah ds2 is easily my 2nd favourite arpg after d2 lod. I only wish I could mule items between my characters, because so often you find great items that none of your chars can use. Pets are good for solo play, because they don't take xp, but level up when you feed them items. Think I'm gonna go back to this game soon
