Finding the Best ARPG Ever Made: Dungeon Siege 3

Dungeon Siege 3 is a few things. Primarily, it's the most abstract sequel a game has ever seen, being almost nothing like the unique experiences of the first two Dungeon Sieges. Secondly, it's one of the most repetitive and oftentimes unfun games I have had to play in this series. And finally, after that glowing review, we have to determine if Dungeon Siege 3 is possibly the Best ARPG Ever Made. The answer is probably not.

I was a huge fan of DS2 as a kid. My dad and I played it together. I remember being so excited for DS3 and got it day one. I think I played it for a few hours before never touching it again. Sad stain on the series.

you should check out Throne of Darkness. 2001 ARPG by Click Entertainment. You play as up to 4 samurai simultaneously fighting against demons and monster in feudal japan

A story about a first legion who founded a new civilization would be good material for a sequel. You could probably turn the game into some kind of road trip where you the legionnaire have to explore areas while removing monsters and looking for a suitable path for the settler's armored train. Alas its a shame there was never a third game

Oh man, I forgot 3 existed! My Dad and I LOVED 1 and 2, so we were really looking forward to 3. Once we read about what it was like in a PC games review magazine we immediately were let down and forgot about it. Years later in this age of isometric Diablo-esque games all being online-only and unmoddable I find myself wondering how cool a proper DS3 could have been.

I was a huge fan of Dungeon Siege 2 and did many runs of it over the years. I remember when I heard when Dungeon Siege 3 was being made, and I was excited, only to be disappointed when it came out since it gutted what I loved about the previous game. Went from a fun ARPG where you can have a huge party, to basically a twin stick shooter with RPG elements slapped onto it. I played it for maybe a hour before putting it down, and never touching it again.

Seer, If I may recommend a game, it would be Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 1 and 2 for the GBA (there's also a third game, but unless you understand Japanese, I can't recommend that one). They are ARPGs according to the very reliable source that is Wikipedia ; I'm not sure they would be great for a video (seeing as they're quite different from the games you've covered), but maybe you'd enjoy playing them nonetheless.

I swear, I tried it when it released and couldn't finish. Then I tried it years later and... couldn't finish. Watched a playthrough (couldn't finish, but got far at least). BUT THEN FINALLY I watched a playthrough a second time (!) and after I couldn't finish it as well I'm at a loss. The sheer boredom of 3 have won.

Man, I'm playing Dungeon Siege 3 and what I can say with certainty is that the guys took a recipe that could work and screwed up in an absurd way. I'm playing with Katarina, a shooter, and the skills are completely against what they should be, the first skill and the strong shot, which are two different skills, could be one, in the short range where you use a pistol and a shotgun, the system should focus on dealing damage almost in a melee, but the blocking doesn't work, the skills are slow and don't help, the damage from weapons is ridiculous and the wolf, for sake, the wolf doesn't do a damn thing, it doesn't follow you and most of the time you're looking at the wall while the battle rages on, the skill system is confusing, and forget about choosing a enemy to shot, YOU DO NOT CHOOSE IN WHO YOU WILL SHOT, IT SHOTS RANDOMLY, COULB HAVE 1 TO THE BOSS DIE, THE CARACTER WILL KEEP SHOTING ON ANY ONE BUT NOT IN THE ONE YOU WANT, it could be interesting but not in the way it was put together, all of this thrown into the random weapons system makes you play the whole game practically with one It's a single item and it's more worthwhile to get a shitty ring and add everything to it than to try to find a cool item, it seems like they put someone who didn't understand RPG games to tell them how the game should work and in the end it all turned out to be shit, the worst part is looking and knowing that if I made half a dozen changes it would be a cool game but no. I'm going to finish playing because of the affection I have for DS1 and DS2 and then never again.

From 4 characters, swordsman is weakest one, because techno magician can easily teleport and summon overpowered clone, fire mage can easily fireball everyone from close and ranged distance, and ranger... she can annihilate on close range, can kill enemies MUCH faster than swordsman, and can do insane damage on huge distance. So this game completely not about balance...😢
