Looked like a huge flea market. The box with all the photos is amazing. Your know what Renee, because of you I have started to research the people behind the photos and the postcards and it's so interesting. And had my first experience on selling at the flea market last Sunday (just helping someone), long day from 7 a.m. till 16 p.m. but it was fun. Visited post office today. Have a beautiful day!

Great video Pam. To hold something that know one has probably cared about in 50 or a hundred years is in my mind awesome feeling. To wonder and possibly dream about what there life was like. When i was younger i would always take my dad's binoculars and watch planes go by and wonder about the people that where on a trip and where they where going. Their lives always seem so exciting to me even though I knew nothing about them thanks for the video and that quick memory I had

I don’t know how you resist buying ALL these wonderful things! We have permanent indoor flea markets here where I live. I would really enjoy going to ones such as you have. New finds and good prices.
@PaperandMoose5 жыл бұрын
Does the inventory at the permanent markets cycle or do you find that the vendors have the same items week after week?
@lindawhitaker43145 жыл бұрын
They cycle a little but not a great deal. I have one fairly small one that I find something new at each time. Some of the larger ones are the same each time. And they are just so big. After a while, you feel as if you’ve eaten too much. I tend to avoid them for a few months and then I go back with a fresh eye. And unfortunately, some get a little junky with modern stuff. Not too many real antiques and they are quite pricey!

Enjoyed the video, thanks for taking us to the flea market with you! I’ve never been to Jakes but I have a friend that sets up there , has been trying to get me to go but it’s a pretty good trip for me. I will see her tomorrow at my weekly auction, will tell her about your video. The black cat salt / pepper shaker was a Ken-l- Ration pet food promo, came with yellow setting up dog ( Fido) licking it lips. I see them every now and then most sellers don’t know what they are. Some BB containers can be Collectable especially Winchester and the older ones that used lead BBs before switching to steel in the 1930s I like the photos, of course I would have said “$8?” The one with the English , German and Yiddish along with the Stature of Liberty was very interesting, no doubt marketed to a recent immigrant, not to difficult to picture a recent Jewish immigrant from Germany who was proud to be a new American buying it. The stamp on the back of that photo was a tax stamp used during the civil war...well you did remember that it was me that Told you!. 😃 Today at my Tuesday flea market there was a new woman with some paper, I saw a few things that looked interesting but I had the girls which makes it hard to look at everything Maybe she will be back Friday.

Love the pixies. We had red and green ones we hung on the side of a goldfish bowl (kinda like the ceramic cats that peeped over the edge). I think we got them at the old Pixie Kitchen on the way to the beach back in the late 60’s/70’s. You didn’t get the Scottie wand. I know you hesitated...... I was yelling get it get it, but you didn’t hear me. I would have purchased to add to my collection. Lol!

I remember seeing those types of halloween cray paper decorations at Stedmands, Woolworths or the Five & Dime stores growing up. $5 is lots more than the original price, but it has to do with what survives from the past or was considered disposable. If we only knew what, from our childhood, would have been worth collecting & saving. I don't see the same value in many of the modern Dollar Store items to save for the future. Likely wrong on some counts though. Great finds!

It was after I just got done paying a few dollars for a box, like you, and 50 cents a piece at another booth. I had to run back to my booth and when I came back the guy told me $75. I was flabbergasted and all I could do was say, "I'm sorry, I can't do that." I wound up leaving them all.

Hey Renee - I've been trying to decide whether the lady really did have such a low cut dress or whether it was a flesh colored inset. Look at the necklace - it's hard to tell whether it is a real necklace or bling sewn onto the neckline of the inset. Originally the pixies probably hang on a bowl or something decorative they came with. They were a huge fad in the 1950s.
@paulanull87315 жыл бұрын
Yup. A very popular fad at that time were making large (really large) brandy snifters into planters and the hanging pixies and other hanging items hung on the edge of the glass. We had Siamese cats on one and in another a few small glass fish on a stand in among the plants. Your pixies are the greatest! I've never come across red anywhere so you really have a find there. PS: take a look at the name across the box the photos are in, I thought it amusing.

Oh my gosh. Dont discount miniatures. Especially if they are old and one of a kind. I loved the dog head cane or whatever it was. I collect miniatures for over 50 years and have some amazing things. There are lots of collectors out there. I wanted to reach in and grab stuff and yell no Renee dont leave that...lol. oh and pennants can be made into round rugs or other shapes it you just add a different shaped backing. It's fairly simple to do and you can get the trim tape from Home Depot and sometimes the backing. You can also get the backing at a craft store. There is an Author named Ransom Riggs that writes the Miss. Peraquins Home for Peculiar Children series of books. I've read them all. He uses real photo images in his books. He might be interested in some that you have. I believe you can lend him photos and he will give you credit in the book for your photo collection. You may want to contact him and maybe he can look through your photos and see if he can use any of them.

The pictures without more information are always a challenge. The smalls and advertising are good finds. The ridiculous pricing will soon come to an end. This resell market has really done itself in. You do have more wiggle room to ask dealers to take less or buy the whole lot for a good price. Anyone selling realizes, the party is over. It is a market to buy and collect what you want. Things may change, but you have time to wait it out with quality items.

The candle hanger figures have rounded arms to place around a candle and the legs as well are round to help the figure cling to candles. These are glass edged hangers and wouldn't work on candles.
