I think also when many people think or visualize going after their passions, they imagine the "title" of that job/passion, rather than what the actual work entails. for those who have a hard time finding what truly interests them, I think a good question to ask yourself is: where am I willing to work hard/challenge myself even when nobody claps?

I was following my passion being a teacher and burned myself out because the job is so tough and demanding! I'm much happier doing a "boring" desk job with good hours in a chill environment

YUP. Recovering news reporter here. Gave it 400% for just above minimum wage. Was told I had to accept poverty and long hours because that’s “just how the industry is.” After all, it was my “passion.” Now I’m working in an office and I’m so much happier.

I’m working my “passion” and it’s still a JOB 😭 most days, it’s a real struggle. 0.5% of the time I think “yeaaahhh this is great” every day. I still dream of weekends after long ass weeks. It’s just like joy and happiness to me. I get a deep sense of joy from the industry I’m in but my happiness everyday comes and goes, you know?

I dont have a passion or goals. I used to think it was art but that's more of a therapeutic hobby to me. I feel like such an alien while everybody else is ambitious and they "follow their dreams". And when you're honest enough to tell people you dont have any passions they ostracize you. Right now I'm just vibing. I dont have it in me to participate in the hustle culture rat race. In the end, all of the things you've worked hard for you can't take with you when you die.

The last sentence you stated is deep and very much true. This whole materialistic hustle culture is so toxic imo and you don't have to monetize everything. Like you said, even the $$ you work hard for will not follow you to your grave. I definitely would've bet that people prob judge you a lot for not being "as ambitious" I was literally talking to my sister about this earlier today and she mentioned how some people get dragged for not aspiring to be a billionaire. Not everyone can be a billionaire (in fact the vast majority won't plus literally every billionaire either sells their soul to get there or steps over everyone and treats people like crap just for personal gain) & some people's character matters more to them than a billion dollar signs to their name

@@TomiTomato Yes, I've been judged for being unambitious. I've been called mostly lazy when really I suffer from depression and social anxiety. But unless you're popular and still a go getter (some) people don't really care about mental illness and think you're making excuses. Plus, I dont like following the crowd. I get ostracized for being myself and being unimpressed with materialism and all these celebrities, trends, and hashtags. It's to the point that I've logged off my FB and Instagram for months. I used to love being on them because I love memes, art, videogames, anime, and manga. But, now there's too much drama, bragging, and hype riding on my feed/dashboard. And my friends and relatives only message me to see what I'm doing rather than to see how I am doing. KZbin right now feels like my only solace.

@@NekoLovely607 I can imagine, I'm sure it doesn't feel good at all to feel like no one can relate to you. And I fully agree that people (family & friends included a lot to the time) don't care about your mental health/illness unless certain conditions are met (like the ones you mentioned). This world is really driven by status, money, materialism, superficial things, etc and it's SAD + ppl don't want to admit it. Yeah social media has changed a lot over the years for sure, it was more authentic and fun before and now it's just ads everywhere, comparison, facetune, hustle culture presidents judging people who don't have at least 5 sources of income by age 25, aspire to own/buy a house in their early 20s or people living the "average Joe" lifestyle as opposed to chasing this big overambitious dream. It's really draining

Agreed. I have struggled to find a passion for years, mostly because I find everything interesting and also because of the marketing of passion being an overriding feeling. In high school, my biggest fear was having to choose one thing to keep and that being the wrong thing. I had many interests, but didn't have the marketed I-just-know-this-is-it-forever feeling with any of them. Was in and out of degrees trying to find something that will make me want to wake up every morning, but I never got that. Now that I'm older, I realise it's not linear. Some people really do figure out what resonates with them early, others really do have multiple interests, etc. If I had just finished one thing I started in uni, I would have been in a much better position to evaluate different options because at least I would have a starting point that would lead to another and another. Re-evaluate chasing a feeling and rather focus on action.

I'm one of these people who just don't have a passion. I used to be SOOO frustrated because left and right you're being told that you HAVE to find that "thing" that was made for you and will make your life makes sense. In a way tho I've found it: God. My life was made to glorify Him. And I learn through Him that my life already makes sense and is already full as it is. Jesus is enough and therefore my life is enough so I can be happy and content regardless of what comes or doesn't come to me. I also LOVE the movie Soul *SPOILERS* I love how after doing what he was pursuing his whole life when he's finally on stage it's underwhelming and how he finally learn through the other soul that, you don't need to have a passion to make your life worth it. It's beautiful and worth living as it is.

I stumbled uppn 2 passions and followed them by travelling over a 6 year period to various trainings. All the while I had regular employment. It left me drained but I would do it again and am looking foward to the time next year when I can follow them exclusively.

My #1 accomplishment in 2021, is finding hobbies. Hobbies that I enjoy doing to relieve the dress if constantly working and of pursuing my passion. For me these were, roller skating, getting back into out doors biking, making waist beads. I did not make money from any of these things but they all bought me so much joy! I look forward to trying crocheting/knitting and pottery.

Really great and thoughtful video! Totally agree with you. I feel like there's this pressure to 'pursue your dreams' since childhood that has been ingrained into us, and a lot of times, that 'dream' is somehow linked to a job/career. Which doesn't take into account that there are many OTHER reasons why people take on jobs, besides of pursuing their dreams. Again great video, thoroughly enjoy these kinds of topics :)

This was a great video... in the sense of working and finding passion job-wise is very relatable however in the fields as a designer with multiple interests and talents trying to find work is so hard because it's like the companies or the industries are more of a fixed mindset and not willing to take on anyone who knows that they are always experimenting and distributing themselves as a multidisciplinary person. So having a 'growing' mindset is the realist way to find passion but it's hard when the "others" see this as lacking passion and is all over the place so they don't even give you a try.

I couldn't help but stare at your perfect skin Adella😍 you're always GLOWING!!! also when you talked about having multiple passions and interests I thought about the phrase "jack of all trades = master of none" & while I feel it's great to have multiple passions, I also think many have a deep fear of commitment and "oh what if I fail if I give my all?" also never heard of the corridor principle term even though I've thought about its meaning multiple times as someone trying to chase her dreams full time. I love your content as always & I hope you have a blessed week Oof I almost forgot to mention- in addition to struthless' illustration, not sure if you've read the book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*** by Mark Manson but he mentions how action➡️inspiration➡️motivation and not the other way round, which he calls the "Do Something" principle (basically means you do something and use the reaction to that action to motivate yourself e.g if you're lazy to workout then do it first and use the energetic feeling to motivate yourself to keep doing it). Just wanted to add that as I thought it was similar🤗

I love that book. I listened to the audiobook on KZbin. My favorite part is the story about the rockstar who got kicked out Metallica. He went on to create his own band (megadeth) but his motivations were to get rich and popular enough so he can rub it in Metallica's face. It didn't happen. Metallica reigned supreme. Megadeth is still successful though. But, the rockstar is still envious and compares and undermines himself/his band to Metallica to this day.

But even comfortably rich like him he still struggles with insecurities and inadequacy and comparing himself to people who aren't worried about him. Success, riches, and fame doesn't fix everything.

The full phrase is “Jack of all trades, master of none is BETTER than being a master of one” Really, according to that phrase, it’s better to have eggs in multiple baskets and I agree. Humans are complex and that should be reflected in passions

I think being a master of one should be the key though cuz how can you really know how much can come out of something when you keep distributing your effort to multiple places? For sure I agree that you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket but people need to get rid of their fear of failure when committing to one thing and fully hone in on it and if it doesn't work out (which btw how do you really determine that? how do you know when it's really time to change directions? how are you not sure that it's just gonna take longer for you than others?) then you can pivot towards other avenues/directions. That's kinda how I interpreted the corridor principle at least Just to clarify: I'm not referring to passions, in fact I think humans should indeed embrace being beautifully multifaceted without feeling the pressure to monetize all of them. I was only talking in terms of how having this mountain sized fear stops people from truly giving their all to something that they want to become great at/primarily monetize. I have a lot of hobbies, but I'm fine with none of them being my career. I have an interesting job that fits my lifestyle, but I wouldn't refer to my office job as a passion. I do not need a passion. I am successful in my job that I like. I have no expectations that my job should fulfil me spiritually. Do not feel pressured into choosing a passion because "everyone should have a passion". It isn't true. You can be very happy without a passion (instead finding joy in relationships and casual hobbies)

Just a few minutes in and I already know it’s going to be so good! I stressed out about this so much right out of college. Almost a decade later: I basically learned, keep doing whatever you find to do well till you find something you like enough that makes you money too. And maybe along the line you’ll find / grow into something you really love.

Tbh I'm tired of hearing about passion. The word is so overused it's starting to become meaningless. I think some people know what they want to do from the womb or in childhood and other people just have to try enough things before they find something they're willing to put the time and effort into. Also the idea of monetising passion is interesting too. Sometimes monetising something makes it more exciting and other times it can suck the joy from the process, so again, different strokes for different folks.

At this stage in my awareness..I believe passion is the vehicle in which you carry out your purpose. The vehicle may change (actually it will) but the purpose JUST IS. Purpose is definitely intangible, a god given gift, natural, comes from within…Plus the only way you will know you enjoy something is to just do it..try all dat sh*t.. I believe that’s the only way you’ll know more of who you are by testing your boundaries, combating fears, etc. but that doesn’t necessarily need to be monetize…it’s really just for self-realization/development/awareness….oh and the good of the world… 🤎
