The last shot is my favourite - fantastic composition with the foreground interest. The HDR layer was essential imho.

This is my first video of yours that I have seen. First, I think you are a very good teacher. I use a completely different camera/software and had no problem following the concepts presented. For my money, the HDR addition adds more leading lines to your focal point (that tiny triangle in the middle) and adds to it. But I also REALLY like the other shot of the pier that you showed. Its time for me to get a nice filter kit like you use and start playing around. It really does not take that much longer to take the extra shots and then make decisions back home in the studio nor does it take that much extra time to move the camera around seeing if there is a better composition. When I started photography it was with a 4x5 camera and extra shots were pricey! With unlimited memory we really can experiment more (and should!).

Hi Gary, I prefer the use of HDR for under the bridge, what a difference it made. I loved the last image of the pier and the stumps,it was super and I am gonna guess that was without the HDR treatment. Oh yes, and I prefer the shot under the pier with the extra bits the way you finally chose it to be, as soon as you started I was like “oh no Gary you must keep them in,they make for a far more complete image” , thankfully you seen the light (no pun intended lol). This is exactly why for me you stand head and shoulders above many other vloggers Gary. Not only do you break the practical and theoretical aspects down into to bite size chunks, but you then go onto explain why you have chosen that particular method, before explaining other ways in which the viewer can achieve the desired results. As for the images., well they really do speak for themselves, brilliant.

I love the HDR addition. It really does bring out the otherwise lost dark details. I don’t think it takes away from the original shot, rather, it is more like what the human eye naturally adds in real time viewing to compensate for the dark areas. After all, as good as modern cameras are, they can’t do what the human eye does. At least, not without help in post, LoL!
@bartjes25092 жыл бұрын
Nice and Yes, I very much like it. Small tip I picked up on youtube somewhere is to pack 3 old CDs and put your tripod on top of that on sandy soil or beaches. During a trip to Madeira I also have been experimenting with focus stacking and exposure blending: take a short exposure of a flower in the foreground and blend that with a long exposure of the seascape in the background also gives very nice results

Great video Gary, I love your fine art work. I use 3 Legged Thing spikes on my Gitzo as tripods tend to use the same thread size and gauge and they work well, Simon Baxter has done the same. Both images work well Gary and I actually strongly prefer the side shot you added at the end. Personally I go LE for water but not for clouds as prefer some texture in a sky but as you say...it's in the eye of the beholder. I have an ifootage TC7 tripod and really the only thing I don't like about it is the feet! I see Thomas Heaton has put spikes on his somehow. I asked the company I bought it from about this and they enquired of ifootage who said they could do it but wanted a small fortune to do the work....I passed! I try to use another tripod with spikes for sand locations now as had enough of it getting stuck between the metal and rubber feet on the TC7 - design flaw in my book. Never used the rock trick for shooting on sand, obviously not always available but will try to file it away for future use!

Great images again Gary. I liked the fact that you brought out the underside of the pier. But I too prefer the image of the pier from the right hand side, perhaps there was too much going on under the pier. The side on shot works well in the distance against the posts in the foreground. But I'd have been happy taking either shot, well done again Gary.
