Evening Mr G. Great when photographers share locations. Great planning not coincidental that the stars align when you’ve planned so well. Good images, the art is in your photoshop work. G'day Gary. First up, I like your images, very well done. I'd like to throw in a couple of reactions to your preamble. a) Art doesn't exist for you to 'like'. If you don't like something, it can still be art. It doesn't have to match the couch, as the saying goes. Many years ago, our Prime Minister of the time, Gough Whitlam, purchased 'Blue Poles' for the National Gallery in Australia. Critics howled him down, but the piece of art is recognised throughout the art world as great. Many don't like it, but it remains art. b) If you have to have a piece of art explained to you, doesn't mean the artist has failed, it may well just mean you need to learn something new, have your horizons expanded, increase your awareness of how something is said in a new way. This always happens at the start of a new 'art movement' - think abtractionism, cubism etc. They were all scoffed at until they were understood. Anyway, keep doing what you are doing, it's inspirational to others like me to get out there and have a go.

Hi Gary. Because I'm not an art curator I don't really know what art is, but I feel that anything can be "art", just think about The 'Black Square' by Kiev-born artist Kazimir Malevich from which I read the following: "For some viewers, it seems like a painting that a four-year-old could have done with a ruler. Perhaps rightly so, but in truth, there is so much more behind the dark surface of the painting that can be best understood with some background knowledge." And this is also an answer for when you said that you knew what is good and what is not and if it must be explained to you then the artist has failed. This is a general feeling in many and I felt the same way once. Since then I have learnt that this is not true. For instance you have to learn Japanese or Chinese music to be able to appreciate it, but this is also true for literature or visual arts. A personal example: As my native language is not English I had to learn many facts to really appreciate Terry Pratchett's novels. This is also true for visual arts, for which Picasso is a very good example. For me your work is fine art, because you take an ordinary scene and transform it something else I can enjoy. This picture of a dead tree in the sea is a picture of a dead tree in the sea and a fine art image at the same time. What I noticed, some people here start to get a little bit bored by your immaculate treatment of images, as it lost its uniqueness for them. And it is a real dilemma for an artist I think, whether to keep or change their handling of the subjects. All in all, I enjoy your channel.

The tree is what makes the art, the sea and the clouds make the canvas. One need only look at trees in winter when driving I the suburbs and see the naked trees are art in themselves, But the tree gets caught in the background. using the sea and the clouds as a canvas really shows the perfect art of the tree. So YES it is fine art

I would never tell anyone their photograph is bad or wrong, or not this or that, unless I was asked my opinion. So I'll say something once I'm finished watching. But, I have never asked for critique or criticism of any of my work, and probably never will. If i like a thing, I like it, for whatever reason. I feel the same about other people's work; they should shoot what they like, and not worry about anyone else' opinion. With a BIG CAVEAT; I critique myself, harshly. I study others' work, do my best to learn and understand the basic principles of photography, and strive to employ them the way MY EYE and heart sees them. It's a journey, and I think one we never arrive at the end of. MHO. Editied to add that the caveat to any opinion I give on what you do here on the day is that I'm not qualified in any way to judge whether or not something is "Fine Art". But I can say if I like it.

Very late to the party but I see superb images. I am not sure what 'fine art' actually is, but I would describe these as stunning fine art shots of a dead tree in the sea. My personal view is that if you are shooting for yourself, and not for commission, the only person you have to please is yourself. If others admire your work that is a bonus and I believe that the vast majority of people who see you landscape work are nothing but impressed (and slightly jealous of your talent).

Hi Gary. I’m never sure what I think about the term “Art”, as it is truly a subjective subject. One persons’ art is another persons’ tipped over pot of paint! A photograph in itself is an image, a reproduction of what the eye sees to a greater degree, I think? But what I do see is your amazing ability to manipulate an image into something very special from a vision in your mind, and that I believe is an “Art Form”. I love these fine art images that you create and only wish I had a fraction of your skill. So, if creativity = art, then art it is.
