How absolutely beautiful. Thanks, Eduardo for this lovely look at Raphael's work. Not only do we get to see these pieces but your explanation of the origins of each painting makes it even more enjoyable. I would love to take a class from you, you are an excellent teacher. Too bad we are 5000 miles away. Thank you again.

Ha ha ha, 😃😃😃thank you, Vickie, that is such a nice compliment, with all the respect, I would love to have a student like you, too. ha ha ha. But the truth is that those works are just magnificent. The colors, the perfection of the line, and all that talent are just unique. I am happy you enjoyed it. And it is true, 500o miles is a bit... you are in the United States, right Vickie.?

The Madonnas make a very good selection to compare Raphael's techniques and choices of style for different applications. Thank you for talking us through that collection! I had not ever seen the painting of the holy family with the palm tree, before. It is very good to see Joseph interacting as an actual part of the family, and the whole arrangement feels much more natural than most of the other pictures. I think I like that one the best out of all of the ones you showed in this video. Though Joseph is often shoved into the background of these works or rendered as a very old man, because he is problematic to depicting Mary as a perpetual virgin, that always struck me as a little sad. There were two sides to the prophecy about Jesus' lineage, one in which he was to be born of the house of David, and one in which he was adopted into the house of David; Mary fulfilled the birth requirement, Joseph fulfilled the adoption requirement; together, they point toward the welcomeness of both Israelite (born) and Gentile (adopted) in the house of God. So the existence of the palm tree depiction by Raphael makes me happy. It feels like a whole picture, in a way many of the others don't. I appreciate you introducing that one to me.

Thank you for your extremely complete and (technical) comment. That, I didn't know. It's very nice to know, that you had first contact with this painting of The Holy Family with the palm tree, with this video. Happy you enjoy it

It's sad that we'll never know how far his genius could take him because of an early death.

It is true. In fact, when we do know all the paintings he painted, the architecture, archeology, and decoration he did in his short life of 37 years. We really can't get a real sense of how far he could have gone.
