I was about to say the same thing. My mother told me it was to mix the blends of tea together.
@Lucinda_Jackson
@Lucinda_Jackson Жыл бұрын
Yes, people made their own blends and I had been brought up believing that was the purpose of the bowl. However, a knowledgeable antique dealer told me it was actually a sugar bowl. This makes some sense, too, as sugar was also expensive and safeguarded in some houses. This way they could keep a small, useable amount of sugar handy for a single cup of tea or more informal tea, but still keep it under lock and key. Who knows? Maybe all are true depending upon the household.

It's like Tea Caddies R Us 😂 This is the kind of antique store I love best. Really old, fine things. They've lasted as long as they have because they are high quality. They were taken good care of by people who recognized their quality and value. These are treasures from centuries past and we are lucky to be able to be "custodians" of these exquisite artifacts. What an amazing store! Thanks for taking us along 🍷

Probably not so much a case of having a good eye as being more familiar with the Crown Derby/Royal Crown Derby backstamps. Have a collection/collect Crown Derby/Royal Crown Derby - mainly Old Imari (1128) and Imari (2451) with a few pieces in the Witches Pattern (6299) and Kings Pattern (383)

I found you looking for chinoiserie and when you find it I love seeing it! I have a Duck spout Sadler teapot I bought for $14. Inside was a note that it belonged to a Great aunt who married in 1815. It was never used. I have my grandmother’s Sadler, too. It would go well with any of the Imari! Thank you for showing so much! How much was the bust in the Scarlet Scales store? I can call if you don’t know. Mackenzie Childs uses a bust in their latest catalog.

I don't think the glass in that Georgian Tea Caddy is a "slop bowl". It's a Caddy Liner aka Mixing Bowl for the two types of Loose Leaf Tea that are usually stored in the two Cannisters. 09:59 The inside of the Cannisters used to be lined with tin/aluminum, and because of age look "dirty". The Slop Bowl is a separate bowl for discarding tea leaves at the bottom of the tea bowl/teacup. This was before the Victorians invented the Tea Strainers. 🤔 There's also a Tea Caddy spoon to scoop and measure tea leaves, usuall one Caddy Spoon of tea leaves per person. ❤️💕🥄🍂🫖
