If the body is perfectly fine without it, and in fact it can be dangerous to have it in the body, then it's not the finely-tuned organ you think it is. Complexity and having many moving parts is not a sign of fine-tuning if the complexity is unnecessary and the moving parts have, in fact, become a weak point in the system, leading to system failure (see: bursting appendixes). It's the same with wisdom teeth: not only are fewer people being born with both sets of wisdom teeth (I'm one of them, I only have the lower set) because the teeth no longer have a major function in the mouth. These teeth also go bad more easily than any other tooth in the mouth and it's recommended that they be removed BEFORE they go bad to help recovery (I haven't, but that's because I'm poor and scared of anesthesia/not being in control of my body).

As I understand it, a number of physicist have made the case that if certain constants has not been nearly exactly what they are, there could not have been stars and solar systems. If that's the case, it makes it appear that stars and solar systems were the desired outcome. I think that is basically the argument. The fine tuning argument is rather silly - an omnipotent god wouldnt have to fine tune anything. Everything would be no more complex as he wanted it and not at all as complex as this reality. Our bodies neednt have to exist of cells with genes based on atoms etc. Any living thing would be homogenious on the inside, as it would simply function and be sustained by gods will alone. This world would be a 3D-cartoon, because that would suffice for serving the christian gods purpose.

Why is the Earth fine tuned to be perfect for life? Why does it have a magnetic field to protect itself from the sun stripping off its atmoshphere? Why is it located at the perfect goldilocks zone where it's not too hot for water to boil and not too cold for water to freeze? Why is the gravity of Earth fine tuned to be enough to hold an atmosphere so that it won't drift into space? Did someone set the conditions to be fine tuned. The answer. It wasn't fine tuned. Earth just has the perfect conditions for life because if it didn't, then we wouldn't be here to exist and talk about it. In our solar system alone, there are 8 other planets, too cold, too hot or too big or too small and so, no lifeforms. Mars once had oceans and an atmosphere, it was habitable, it was also in the goldilocks zone but it's core froze and lost its magnetic field so its atmosphere got blown away along with the oceans. Earth just happen to be lucky. Same thing with the "fine tuning" of the universe. There could very well be billions of other universes out there we haven't discovered yet, where conditions aren't "fine tuned". Where they have different constants and laws that aren't suitable for life. But in our universe. Just like Earth. The conditions just happen to be perfect for life to exist otherwise we won't be here. We have found thousands of other planets, all without clear signs of life. Most unsuitable for the existence of life. Same with our universe. Our universe could well be just one among billions of other dead universes because their constants aren't suitable for life. Another thought experiment, let's say there's a talking sentient plant seed. It grew on fertile land perfect for life. It then asks itself "why is the terrain I grew up on so fine tuned, so perfect". The seed doesn't know there are millions of other seeds like it that have either fallen in lakes and oceans where they drowned. Fallen on top of boulders with no soil so they dried up and died. Or were eaten by birds and other animals. The seed survived and lived because conditions had to be perfect. Otherwise it would be dead and wouldn't exist to talk and think about why it felt as if someone must have planted it there.

I find you guys are actually not that good on formulating objection to fine-tuning. I would think it should be pretty simple, but you confused the hell out of me. The caller says, "The Designer is Intelligent." You say "That's an auxiliary hypothesis, not allowed". Caller reasonably asks, "Well, what CAN I say about the Designer." You say, "All you can say is that it is able to design a universe and can also choose not to do so." I mean, wouldn't "intelligence" be the LEAST of what you need to do that? If not, why not? No! While I can't speak for all atheists myself I just don't believe a god has been proven so don't believe it's real. Separate to that I find science fascinating and enjoy reading in books and occasionally peer review papers about it and watching documentaries etc and love history so much I became an archeologist. With that I understand and accept Adam never existed so original sin is nonsense and things like a world flood never happened. Also I find the whole idea of inherited sin horrible and a sacrifice scapegoat horrendous! Any god who created that and needs demands we bask in his glory doesn't deserve it. And I'm thankful it's not true and I'm free from the immoral man made shackles.
