Also consider: the BMS could have triggered cell overvolt protection, shut down charging and causing the spike on the rest of the system. Lowering the absorption duration would minimize the likelihood over cell runaway, reducing symptoms as one sees here. One could also charge to something like 14.0v for similar effect.

thats one of the problems with charging LiFePo4 at such a high voltage best to charge at 3.45 per cell and that way they can adsorbe to 97% without the cell voltage getting too nigh also its above the 3.40 volt that most bms need to start balancing
@fratermus5502
@fratermus5502 Жыл бұрын
@@John.strong Agreed, I charge to 3.45vpc and the cells stay within 4-6mV of each other at full charge.

with 2 charge controllers you are getting to full charge more often. with the full sun and clod back to sun a high voltage alarm went off .it was a warring in inverter. it the voltage goes higher it will shut down. the controller will disconnect the solar .The BMS in battery will disconnect the battery to save from damage. looks like you fixed it with dropping the boost time. LifePO4 is around 90% efficient so with a light load and full sun you may get a high voltage warring from time to time. I get inverter shut down on my 24V NiFe Edison battery in cold days with high wind . I have wind/solar .

Yeah, it's been great getting fully charged everyday. That second string of panels made all the difference. Even with the refrigerator running 24/7 and all other household power, I'm at like 80% full when I wake up. Of course it's been very sunny lately which is a bit unusual for here, but still, since the extra panels were added haven't run the Victron charger once. Those alarms that went off on inverter and cc, caught me by surprise, but since I shortened the boost time, all is good. Appreciate you mentioning that you too have experienced those alarms. For one brief moment when they went off, my heart skipped a beat...Haha..still learning yeah . mahalo Robert 🤙

I had a very similar problem and I think it is the charge controller charging the battery while the fridge is cycling and then when the fridge turn off the battery voltage risers so now only charged my battery to 14.2 and haven't had a problem
@ProjectsinParadise808
@ProjectsinParadise808 2 жыл бұрын
You know I hadn't even considered that, but now think that may have been what happened to me too. I originally thought it was shading of the panels after being at 14.5 for an hour or so, then a burst of sun. But it's just as likely as what you say. Guess I'll never really know, but since I cut the boost time down to 20 minutes instead of two hours, it's working perfectly. Thanks a lot for mentioning your experience...aloha 🤙

I’m running a couple 4215 epever Triron and have my boost set to 10 minutes but was thinking that because equalize only happens once a month that I should set my equalize to 14.6 volts for 20 minutes. Because full charge on my batteries is 14.6. I’m hopping this will top balance my batteries once a month. Also I have my float set at 13.4. I’m running 600 amp hour lithium iron phosphate battery. Leaving my float charge @ 13.4 if my battery doesn’t go below 13.2 it will just float charge the next day so I’m not cycling my battery every day.
@ProjectsinParadise808
@ProjectsinParadise808 2 жыл бұрын
You raise a great point on the top balancing, and I still don't totally understand when in the cycle that happens. I have assumed that is why on the specs for the Chins batteries I am running they recommend holding that 14.2-14.6 for 120 minutes. Currently, I float at 13.8 as recommended, but like you , if I don't drop below 13.2 over night, it just holds the next day at 13.8 as well. Thank you for participating in the conversation here...aloha 🤙

@@ProjectsinParadise808 when I had FLA batteries it would equalize on the 28th of every month but the literature you get with the controller doesn’t really cover if it works the same in lifepo4 mode and that’s why I left it but set it to zero minutes.

My thought is the Uber voltage spike was increased enough to sound an alarm due to the fact that there were two controllers feeding into the same battery bank. Yesterday was monitoring my controller similar to the one that you have but a 30 amp EPEVER XTRA have had for two months came with the software firmware update to include the lithium settings. It shows the voltage spike go from 14.5 momentarily up to 15 V just as it was dropping the income and current low enough to hold it. Oddly enough immediately after showing 15 V it went right back to 14.5. I don’t know if this is something that would be considered a fluke and how it reads the voltage. My inverter didn’t sound an alarm. But, this could also be that I have a different set up with a modified sine wave 1500 Watt non-digital readout type. Does have indicator lights and audible alarm, but wasn’t triggered by the momentary voltage spike. Not too worried about it. Also my current set up is a single lithium battery Chins 100Ahr. Just figured I’d mention this personal experience. Really enjoy your videos and great content. Like seeing the info on what you’re using. For example the refrigerator test was very good. very important to understand real-world expectations when going solar. This is something I learned after setting up my first solar array realizing I needed to double the size at least. Thanks again we’ll keep watching and have subscribed.

Thanks for the video. I'm not educated in the solar field, but I do have my own system that I live on. From what I've learned, Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries should never be equalized. The setting that I have been instructed to used is the Boost Duration, which is normally set at 180 minutes. Can you tell me how you came up with those setting changes? I'm intrigued at the fact that you nailed it on your system.

It took me some time when I initially switched over to LiFePO4 batteries to find out the perfect settings for my system. I spent a lot of time trying different parameters . Now I pretty much set them all to 14.1v for absorption for 2 hours, and 13.5v for float. It works great for my systems. Tried 14.2V quite a bit , but got alarms now and then , especially when finishing up a charge, then a big burst of sun would come by and spike them momentarily. Hope this helps, and thanks for being part of the conversation. Aloha! 🤙

I am just curious if a affordable land is available in Hawaii? I always enjoy your videos. One question I have is how do you figure when the batteries are 100% and when they are 0% on the capacity meter? is it by voltage?
@ProjectsinParadise808

Yes, I charge my batteries to 14.5v, which is full. You have to tell the monitor what is full, and when it is set it. From there on it will know the % of you storage. Price of land varies, like anywhere, and affordable is subjective I suppose, but yeah, looking around there are still some deals🤙

I have different settings that were given to me by Lion Energy. I have 2 lithium batteries 105 ah Lion energy, 3 80 w solar panel, Epever 2215BN 20a. Equalizing time is 0 as per LE recommendation, Boost is 180 min they told me to put 244.

Do you charge your batteries during the day and use them to supply power at night only or do you run a load on them as they are charging during the day? I have six 120-watt panels going to the same controller you have going to 2 100 ah 12-volt lithium batteries. I have had to disconnect from the panels as I am showing 21 volts in which is normal for parallel, but my amps only show .2 of an amps going into the solar controller. Something must be wrong with my panels but all 6 going bad at the same time does not seem right. Any ideas would be appreciated.

My systems run 24/7, so I am charging and discharging all at the same time and I found by adding some extra panels where I need to it keeps up with everything just fine. It takes a little bit of time to find out what you're using in a typical day and given your charging conditions you'll have to make some adjustments along the way but my inverters are on all day everyday and I can still get up to absorption and float as often as needed actually to keep the batteries healthy. It just takes a little time and understanding your particular conditions before you'll have it dialed in nice and tight. Stay in touch and let us know how it goes for you! And best of luck! Aloha! 🤙

So I've got the Ampheretime 300Ah battery (which I think is the same as the Chins) and a new Epever MPPT, but mine does not have the lithium setting. Can you list the details of the settings you are using? It seems to be working fine but I have not messed with the float and boost settings at all as I'm not sure exactly what they do either. I just set the max V to 14.5. I only have one battery and one solar bank for now.
