epever seems to be a good value, I just got a low-price pwm controller from them, solid construction. These days we should probably rename master-slave to ferrari driver-cubicle worker? or better yet : Primary and secondary.

Thank you for the video. You seem to know a lot about charge controllers. Does the RS485 port on a charge controller take in a regular RJ45 cable and plug? Can the EPEVER device work with any unbranded charge controller? I own an unbranded solar charge controller.

thanks for the video , I appreciate the work you put in them! question ... can you connect 2 controllers on the master ports , and if so .. what would the screen show ? a sum of both of them or one a the time .... thanks
@AdamWelchUK2 жыл бұрын
You could, but you would need to change the modbus ID of one of the controllers from the standard ID (1). You can only have one slave device per ID. The MT75 contacts device ID 1 for charge controller stats and ID 3 for inverter stats (again, ID 3 is default for epever inverters). If two ID 1 devices exist on one bus, they’ll both try to reply and the whole system will get confused.

Thanks for making content about epever products. I have 3 BN series 40 amp controllers 2 hooked to one lifepo4 ampere time battery banks. Can you provide any input on how the controllers can work together in paralell in a 6 battery paralell 12v bank?
@bigk52033 жыл бұрын
Could you plug two inverters into the inputs and get a combined output or would you get two separate outputs?
@AdamWelchUK3 жыл бұрын
I think the answer is yes and no. Epever use master ID3 for inverters, so if you had two on the same bus they would clash. I believe the address can be changed though, but then the other peripherals (MT75 in particular) wouldn’t communicate with the none standard inverter. My theory is that using third party gear, you could communicate with a good number of devices on one bus. That’s what rs485 was designed to do and epever can’t really stop that. What they’ve done is make an industrial communication protocol more end user friendly.

@@AdamWelchUK How about connecting two charge controllers?
@Venomator.3 жыл бұрын
Another good video Adam, thank you for sharing your kit and thoughts… 👍🏻 I assume the snappily named kit will only work with EPever items? For example, I have an EPEver Charge Controller, but another brand of Inverter, am I correct in saying the inverter is not compatible?… 🤷🏼♂️ Thanks again sir… 👍🏻
@AdamWelchUK3 жыл бұрын
I’d imagine the snappily titled RS485-1M2S doesn’t care about what devices are attached. If your inverter is RS485 compatible you may be able to make up a wire to connect it in. Obviously it wouldn’t work with the MT75 which has hard coded registers (addresses) it queries, but other rs485 devices should be able to communicate on the bus.

Hello Adam, I would like to monitor my AN series Tracer 40A controller via my laptop in the house using the PC software however my shed is approximately 25-30 meters away, am I able to do this over the rs485 to USB cable or is there a distance limitation? How do you achieve remote PC monitoring and can you tell me how many 100W panels my controller will support? I currently have two panels and my system is set up for 12v. Thank you so much for introducing me to the Epever Tracer which I have had for six years now and it is still performing faultlessly. Are you still using an Epever Tracer? Are there any newer products that you would recommend. Thanks.

Nice test, thank you. I see there is an MT80 also, do you know the difference between the MT75 & MT80. Was thinking buying the MT75, but also saw the MT80. Thanks
@AdamWelchUK3 жыл бұрын
I hadn’t seen the Mt80 and I kind of wish I had. The MT80 seems to be the same as the 75 but with the additional feature of an RS485 output. So in essence, it’s like using the MT75 and the RS485-1M2S at the same time. You can plug both a solar controller and inverter into the MT80 and plug in another accessory to remotely monitor the setup. Pretty cool.

Hi Adam, an excellent series of videos and explications, I wish I had come across these earlier. I’m living on a solar powered Narrowboat, with 2.3kW of the best Austrian marine PV array bonded to the roof deck. However, it has been connected to a hybrid transformerless inverter by Phocos. Transformerless inverters are smaller and more efficient than the transformer types so it is perfect for the limited space onboard. As the AC output is not isolated from the PV input a parasitic inductive charge can accumulate on the PV array. This can be a serious shock hazard. I want to separate the PV side from the AC side by adding a separate SCC. EPever do one that will connect via RS485 to the Pylontech 48v LiFePO4 battery stack and BMS. The problem is that the BMS must communicate with the SSC and the inverter. I think this should be possible but would like your expert opinion on what solutions might be possible? EPever support say that communication via their link is not possible but your videos show otherwise. Any help and/or advice would be most appreciated. With best regards, Charlie
@keyem45043 жыл бұрын
Since RS485 is a bus system, I see no reason why I would need that box. Maybe you would have to think a little about the power supply lines from the different devices, but simply connecting all the communication lines of all devices would achieve the same.

Using this device would the e-log record any of the data from the inverter?
@ianganderton71393 жыл бұрын
I'm installing a 40A Epever SSC and Epever inverter. I'm also installing a MT75 and e-log. I'm interested in logging all the data the MT75 can see. It looks like I need this device to do that but I'm wondering what data from the inverter the e-log can 'see' and will then log
@AdamWelchUK3 жыл бұрын
The answer is - I’m not sure. I will try to look into this. My feeling is that it won’t log inverter stats, but there is always a chance.
@ianganderton71393 жыл бұрын
@@AdamWelchUK the data is there because the MT75 is reading the stats. Can/does your data reading solution read/log the inverter stats?
@AdamWelchUK3 жыл бұрын
@@ianganderton7139 My current solution in the shed is reading the registers into node red then using them from there. The eLog from epever saves the minutely data to internal memory - in a csv. I can’t remember if that had columns for inverter stats, or in fact if it will add those columns if it sees an inverter on the bus. When I get chance I’ll look into it.
