This is exactly what I have been searching for, LiFePo4 battery charging parameters for my Renogy Rover 40A mppt charge controller. I contacted Renogy with zero help on the topic.(Twice) I am using the "USER" mode for custom settings since the Renogy does not have the LiFePo4 factory setting. Oddly enough, this video didn't actually teach me anything new, but it *clarified* things for me when it comes to setting up my Epever 4210AN for my new LifePo4 battery. I've been struggling with Epever's [expletive deleted] software, but after watching your video I got it worked out tonight. Oddly enough #2, my controller doesn't have a LifePo4 setting I can reach through the MT50, but the [expletive deleted] software does have a set of controller parameters for lithium batteries. Still had to tweak them for this battery brand, but now I can access and change them using either the [expletive deleted] software or the MT50. Even better, I finally worked out how to export the settings to a text file, so if I need to redo the controller, I can just import that file. Thanks for the help! Liked and subbed.

Mahalo and welcome to the channel! WIthout the MT-50 I doubt I would have ever got this controller dialed in. Even with it , it took me longer than I thought it would to have it working properly. Granted I am not the most technical person, but still, it should be more user friendly IMO. Over the past couple years I have upgraded to Victron, and never looked back. Plug and play on those, and making life here much easier, for sure! Glad you got something useful for your application out of the video. I am always hopeful that that is the case on all what I share. It is a game changer. I'm sold on it, I'm getting one, maybe two. For the solar power Isolator, I just use an HVAC disconnect, the kind that is outside the hose next to the ac unit. It is a metal box and you just pull out a handle and it disconnects the panels from the controller. It cost about $8 at Home Depot.

looking great ! now you know about long wire runs . remember the solar array voltage . that voltage can zap you good . always disconnect mc4 at array first for safety. down the road you may add a double pole weather proof disconnect right on the nice wood frame you made. use 2 of them. I used fused disconnect my self. I am in NY and we get our shear of bad weather even 2ft snow high wind. I grounded my metal frame on my array . surge protection as well . do some research on EMP Harding your system. lots of KZbin video's here how to do it. what I am working on now. electro magnetic pulse can come from the sun solar flair or a close buy lighting strike.

I am going to look at those fused disconnect for under the array you mentioned. And I'm going to research and watch some videos on the EMP protection. I've taken two direct lightning strikes in the past. One at 9000 feet in the Rockies. Hit a tree next to my cabin, arched to my hot water heater exhaust and blew a hole through the wall as big as my fist, then grounded on my wood stove. My battery bank literally boiled for days, and lost controller and a few appliances. 2nd time was here years ago...another direct hit. I knew I was in another terrible storm, so unplugged and disconnected everything ...didn't matter. Lost everything except solar panels on that one. It even blew old romex through the walls that had been completely cut off and weren't tied to anything. Lightning makes me nervous. Thanks for sharing all your invaluable information Robert...aloha 🤙

Comments you may wish to consider. Temperature compensation is not needed for lithium batteries. Charge voltage, boost volts, may be too high at 14.5 volts for many lithium batteries . 14.2 volts is less stressful and less prone to put the battery into protection mode. Float volts is too high at 13.8 volts. This keeps the state of charge at absolute maximum and degrages the battery. 13.5 or 13.4 volts is prefered. Boost duration, the absorbtion phase , needs to be quite short, a maximum of 30 minutes. With panel strings its important to keep the string open circuit volts below the rated voltage of the controller, five panels is very near the limit. Note as temperature drops panel volts increase. Mike

Thanks for the video, have the older Epever 40a without the Lithium settings included, I have a 24v flooded setup with this same controller, the batteries are near the end of their life, will be buying 2x 12v lithium batteries that are suitable for series connection, can anyone tell me if you simply doubling the charge parameters for 24v, there is very little online about setting up the older controllers for 24v lithium. Can I ask why people setup these chargers for 12v when doing so halves the total Watts you can supply the charger from the panels, if this setup had 24v battery you would only need one controller as it would be able to use the wattage and voltage from all the panels you now have and 24v systems transfer the current from the charge controller far more efficiently.

Tested with multi meter and yes indeed it was low. Unhooked the pv wires and the voltage was back up to 80v. Hooked up to bluetti and pv was 80v. Hooked back up to junk epever and voltage started at 80 and within 5 minutes was back down to 14.7. Hope you have better luck than I. Also heard they are very inefficient but I thought it was fine.

It was fine in winter but now summer starting and facing this issue. Using both panels form 2 months. after wire disconnect and reconnect the voltage jump from 33-36 to 75v. If something wrong with one solar panel then it should not work after replugging mc4 or solar wire in the mppt after that It work whole day but same issue next morning Both panels volts amps are little different. HI! Got a question for you. My Epever 3210AN is just 2 years old, but has no settings for LiFePo4. At least, none that I can assess at the unit. If I get the "remote," will it show that there is in fact a setting for LiFePo4 batteries? Thanks!

If I use this same charge controller with a 24v lifepo4 do they have that preset or do I have to manually enter it? (FYI this controller also has low temp disconnect/protection now with the optional temp probe sensor plugged in)

Yes, they are for any size 12v Lifepo4 battery, however I have had to ho back into user settings and set my boost to 14.3v now. The 14.5v pre set for Lifepo4 was a tad too high and kept triggering alarms on mt50, and the inverter. Hope this helps you 🤙

Hi, first contact with an EPEVER product (Tracer6420AN) and trying to setup all parameters for my 48V LFPO battery....I am using the PC software and it's a nightmare .... very very buggy.... Is your battery a 12V or a 48V ? coz you set everything for a 12V model.

Thanks for your answer. I managed to do it via the PC software !!! The trick is to export all parameters into a text file, change there the parameters and import the settings again. The crazy thing is all decimal values need a comma as separator not a point .... and with my french keyboard and this software, when typing a comma nothing appears. If you enter a value with a dot as separator, of course there is an error message... Weird... I did a small video on my YT channel (e-2-nomy) but it's in French language. Cheers.

@ProjectsinParadise808 2 жыл бұрын
Panels are closer to 6 ampsx5 is my 30 amps, and briefly, when colder can see 35, and even 38 occasionally. But when warmed up, and sustained, it usually settles around 25- 30 amps.🤙😎
@explore1018
@explore1018 2 жыл бұрын
I'm having trouble understanding that as well.. If you have panels at 6 amps in series the amperage does not change. If the panels were strung together in parallel then amperage changes voltage stays the same. In series voltage goes higher amperage stays the same. You are not pulling in that much amperage , your charge controller is converting the voltage that you're getting into Amperage that's what's great about mppt charge controllers. Great setup by the way! Aloha

Thats what an MPPT controller does....converts 12v x5 at 5-6A (5 panels in series!!) to 12.7v @ 25-30A. DC-DC buck converter.

This is great, to have their lithium parameters available to program the older version. Annoyingly though, once you've set up all parameters for Lithium, if you change the battery type back to say, sealed, the go back & select user it doesn't save the lithium settings you'd programmed in so you have to start over...

I have no experience with solar panels, batteries, charge controllers, or inverters; I want to design and build a 12V direct current portable outdoor, solar powered swamp cooler that does not require an inverter. So far, I have purchased four 12V, 100W, 7A portable briefcase solar panels which will be wired together in parallel to produce a total of 400 Watts, 28 Amps. I will be using two 12V, 120W, 10A automotive radiator fans and a 12V, 3A submersible water pump. The swamp cooler box will be made of varnished / waterproofed wood with evaporative honeycomb swamp cooler water bricks in the back. I want to use a lithium battery instead of lead acid battery, but I don't know how many amp hours the lithium battery needs to be. I will not be using the swamp cooler when there is no sunlight to power the solar panels. The total number of amps of the two fans plus the water pump, will be 243 amps, but an auto store manager told me that 12-volt, 120-watt, 10-amp automotive radiator fans cause a momentary amperage surge (power surge) each time during power-up, and he said the momentary surge can be as much as 4 times the amp rating of the fan motor which would be 40 amps power surge from each fan motor (80 amp total power surge if what he told me was true). I will be connecting a motor speed controller with on / off switch to each fan motor to be able to turn-on and slowly increase the speed of each fan to the desired air flow of the swamp cooler during each power-up of the swamp cooler. If you were me, would you buy a 40A EPEVER Solar charge controller, or would you buy a 60A charge controller for my swamp cooler? How many amp hours should the lithium battery be for my swamp cooler?

The words "I have no experience" and "I want to design and build" make me nervous. I'm all for innovation and tinkering, but only if someone has the basics down. I'm not sure you're there yet. For example, you got amps and watts confused when you came up with that "243 amps" number. That is *not* a minor mistake. What you've got are fans that pull 10A with a startup surge that might reach 40A, right? 40 + 40 + 3 for the water pump = 83A surge, with a normal total current of around 23A. What you're putting together as a power supply for your swamp cooler is a basic 400W solar PV system that a lot of people, including me, have put on vehicles, except you'll be omitting the inverter. Check Will Prowse's channel and website. He has plans and parts lists to build exactly that kind of system and build it so it will work safely.

the loss you would expect to see from undersized wire would be VOLTAGE DROP, you aren't getting that. your lower MT50 showed a higher voltage. my guess is that you will not see an increase in power by going with a larger wire. you may find that moving the lower CC will shorten the OUTPUT path, and THAT may make a change. if not, it may be panel degradation causing the difference. If you want to do a definitive TEST, just swap the arrays outside, change WHICH array is connected to what charge controller. This will show you instantly if it is the WIRE run or not. I would do this PRIOR to buying more wire. I appreciate larger wire whenever I can, but if you don't get a GAIN from it, then it is a WASTE of money. Also, it is MORE important to upsize your 12v wire FROM the CC, as that is a lower voltage (higher current) and is more likely to suffer voltage drop.

I have literally done these system so many times in my career it is all pretty much second nature at this point. Since I have your attention, you should really consider getting away from 12v and goto at least 24. Since you already have two of the CHINS batteries it is not a huge upgrade. Just get yourself a MPP SOLAR or Growatt all in one. You will never regret it. Trust me on this. I personally always recommend 48 v systems to start, but 24 is still better than 12. Mahalo
