While the overall gender gap in account ownership is decreasing, the latest FinDex figures mask significant nuance and gaps regionally and within countries. As the FinEquity community seeks to close these gaps, it is vital that the financial products and services offered are researched and designed with women in mind - not treating women as a monolith, but instead taking into account the plurality and diversity of women globally.
This workshop honed in on how gender-intelligent design can play a meaningful role in advancing women’s financial inclusion. Alongside the FinEquity Gender-Intelligent Design Knowledge Guide tools, this learning event drew from the good practices of FinEquity members who have applied tools to design and implement inclusive financial products and services for women globally and in Africa.
During the workshop, FinEquity's Gender-Intelligent Design Knowledge Guide was introduced, as well as key principles in designing products and services that serve women. This also incorporated learning from FinEquity’s Gender-Intelligent Design case studies with WomenSave, UNCDF/ WMBL, and Tyme Bank, detailing the process by which they turned research findings into specific features that worked for women customers. It also featured a panel discussion and interactive small group work on gender-intelligent design.
