Thanks Tim. I have discovered that LA’s Totally Awesome spray, available at Home depot, really really works great. I one sprayed a whole car body in tamiya and it remove the paint with ease. Works awesome in the airbrush too. One gallon $10. Dgr

Since I use enamels in my air brush. Once cleaned I will lightly coat my o rings with a little bit of Vaseline to keep them from drying out from the thinners that are use to clean with. Also use the brush as Tim mention along with dental brush that come in different sizes and are stiff but flexible.

Have you ever tried regular “409” for acrylic paints? I have used it to remove an entire paint scheme on a kit. The stuff will remove the fur off a bunny at 40 yards!

I don’t use enamels or lacquers so don’t have lacquer thinner. So I use windex and water. But I have shot Plastruct in the white bottle to get stubborn stuff out.

Right. If you have Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner you can repurpose it as Extra Thin Cement. It's a widely known secret that Extra Thin and AB Cleaner are 99% the same chemicals in the same ratios

I’ve used acetone to clean acrylic paints out of the airbrush’s. It quickly dissolves the paint, even if dried. Haven’t seen any issues with seals. Any idea if it harms anything?

Pointed swabs are clutch. I just don't like paying Tamiya or Mr. Hobby prices for them.
@willthorson45435 ай бұрын
Honestly you can soak it in Windex. The % of ammonia in Windex isn't high enough to damage the brush. I've had Tamiya and a grex for well over a decade with the Tamiya ones going back to 1998 and Windex has done nothing to the airbrushes
@FineScaleModelermagazine5 ай бұрын
Never, ever soak your airbrush in anything. It's the worst thing for it. And while the chances of something going wrong if you leave the Windex in the brush are low, it's best practices to flush it with water and eliminate the risk. That being said, your system works for you, so don't change a thing. My system works for me. -TK

Those reamers for the airbrush are bad news. Both the reamers and the pipe cleaners. They can wipe out packing seals and nozzles. Too harsh. Best to use interdental brushes inside your airbrush. And if you want dental paper points for the inside of the nozzle. And rely more on flushing with solvents like lacquer thinner and acetone in order to solubilize that dried paint instead of trying to scrape it off. Disassembly for cleaning is when ALL the wear and tear happens, and often damage.
@kudukilla5 ай бұрын
I’ll second the dental paper points.
@FineScaleModelermagazine5 ай бұрын
I've actually gone off of interdental tools. I've had them dissolve and leave gunky bits in the airbrush. Any tool can be bad news for your airbrush if used incorrectly or incautiously. -TK

In your experience haven't dissolved; in mine, they have. We can go back and forth like this to the benefit of no one. I was asked what I use by our viewers and I supplied my answers. We try not to speak in absolutes around here. What works for one modeler may not work quite the same way for another. Regardless, continue to do what works best for you! -TK

@@FineScaleModelermagazine expect pushback. This is social media. If you post incorrect information you’re going to get called out on it, because unknowing novices take these suggestions then several months later wind up on the airbrush forums wondering why they’ve got air and fluid leaks. It’s irresponsible.
