By far the Best and simplest explanation I have come across!! I've been dancing over 5 years and never could get comfortable with my zills because everyone always wanted to jump right into complex rhythms. I had given up, feeling that it just wasn't for me. But now that I teach basics, I felt compelled to try again, for their sake. Wow! I just spent the last hour doing this and I've Got it!! Finally it makes sense!! Thank you Soooo Much!!

I have been dancing for years now and bought zills in Feb 2010. I took classes and I dreaded using my zills in class. It was just like what another member (Naturally) stated. A friend and one of my biggest inspirations in the belly dance world just sent me a wonderful set of zills. I tied the elastic on them so I am going to be practicing more now. Your video is the fundamental part that has been missing in my training. I cannot thank you enough for offering this help. Blessings, :)

Out of all the videos teaching Zill, yours is the only one that is shown me how to keep the beat. Thank you you are really good instructor at teaching beginners how to learn!

I've only gone through Video #1 so far and I've found it the easiest lesson in basic zill patterns I've come across yet. I had the biggest smile on my face when going through the patterns using my arms. Thank you so much for making this available.

Thank you! Before I found this I was watching some other "beginner" zill videos and the teachers went way too fast. I was ready to give up! This is just the right speed for my clumsy fingers! (and thumbs).

Wow, Thank you - that's awesome! When it comes to playing cymbals (especially when dancing) for the first time, almost every student needs the simplest possible approach. On the other hand, some students get confused with my explanations! So I'm really glad to hear your comments! Best to you in your recovery

@321flare hi, thanks for writing. In the instructional segment I'm using smaller cymbals, often called "student size". I like using that size for the classroom. Start with the small one (about 2 & 1/4") to learn with, after you're comfortable playing you can get larger ones (like 2 & 1/2" etc.). 3" cymbals are hard to play well unless you have large hands like a man. Good luck to you!

Thank you sooooooooooo much for posting this. I really struggle with zills and tend to skip even trying most of the time. I am really working now because I so want to be able to play. One question? Are your fingers supposed to turn purple and go numb? It is very uncomfortable!

I just got my zills this morning, my very first pair, after having my very first belly dance lesson yesterday. I am so excited to start belly dancing, I can't wait to get something going, lol! Thanks for giving me my first insight about what to do and how to do it... this walking on a 4 beat and "zilling" on 8ths or 16th looks easier than it is, I fear... we shall see! Off to practice I go! Question: I would say, the thumb is a good guess for the one, but is there an absolute finger for the other zill, or can it be either ring or middle finger? Please let us know!

That _is_ amazing, Anthea Kawakib Poole!! I knew that dancing in general is good for rehab, but I'd never thought how good zilling could be for brain injury recovery! What an amazing way to find out, and huge props to you, Anthea! Guys at Dancergy have you seen this? Isn't it amazing!? :)

Oh, I know that all to well myself! ^_^ Speaking of zills I was at a wonderful and very fun zill workshop with the Finnish dancer Sirke Seppänen a couple of weekends ago. She had us speak with our zills, combine strengthening exercises like crunches while zilling patterns and all kinds of other interesting things! It was very interesting to explore the zills that way! :)
