Thank you for this great pruning tutorial. I love learning why we do things at certain times, not just how to do them!

I really appreciate when you answer the question 'why' ....we prune after the longest day BECAUSE we get shorter internodes. Thank you. Please continue this great content.

Excellent video Jelle and completely agree with your advice. Reinforces my learnings over the years and like most learnings, they have been the hard way! Tx again, Deep

I definitely agree with you about Lindens - I did mine 3 weeks ago now. Good discussion on a range of deciduous material. My cut off is generally after that 1st week in August. Especially with the alteration in the onset of winter frosts over here. BUT, it is definitely not a guarantee :)

An excellent piece on Pruning,Jelle. You mention fungus problems with your hornbeam but you don't say how you dealt with it. I have a large hornbeam of some 50/60 years of age which has grown healthily for me for over 30 years butwhich suddenly showed signs of fungus (verticillium wilt perhaps) I have used common anti fungicide and this week Sulphate of Ammonia. It is too early to say if it will survive. I would value your comments and perhaps you have the basis of a piece on fungus?

Would it be possible to work on a tall chinese juniper now. It has a very thick trunk, but it is about 4 feet tall, and I would like to cut quite a bit of the trunk off. Do I still have time? I live in the US, in Minnesota.

I am not sure what happens in minnesota in fall and winter. Elm in General are very strong and regrow fast. But... I would personally wait with big cuts untill late winter or mid-spring.

@@GrowingBonsai It's not an elm, it's a chinese juniper.

@@maryweber4176 sorry. Not sure HOW I misread that. Junipers keep growing whenever the weather is warm enough. So from that perspective, you could. However, should you? If you do big cuts now, as we are nearing winter means that you have less foliage & reserves heading into winter. I normally try to avoid that, and try to do this work after the peak of winter headed into spring. Buut.. You certainly can. (In a few weeks I will be doing a demo which will include removing bulk from the tree)

@@GrowingBonsai Thank You for getting back to me. I did make a chop to the trunk, but cut no other branches off. I trimmed a little bit off the branch tips. I have a glass enclosed porch where it will spend the winter. Fingers crossed. Your tutorials are very helpful. (I did the work before you had answered, I know, I need to learn patience)
