7:37 a lesson I learned the hard way, using liquid nails. the hard boards started to delaminate from the drywall. I had to drill drywall screws through the hardboard into the studs to keep it in place. Then I covered the screw with a large framed art.

I use a Formica roller to put pressure and push the glue around when I do an install like that. The Lowe’s brand to be be exact.

Silly question - but, as the beading is protruding out further than the outer panels, that was a purposeful choice? I've never seen that before. To achieve that would I do something like this? - Outer MDF paneling, 15mm, inner centre board, 9mm, beading 9mm?

Another tip to help you secure your sheet goods, is to pull the sheet away from the wall a few inches. It will spider web the adhesive, providing you more area coverage.

Super clean work, and that's a great look with the mini-backband. Question on the electrical outlets: Maybe it doesn't matter for a remodel, but isn't it against code to have the outlet box not flush with the final wall? I'm doing some new construction and my electrician asked me for the overall thickness of my wainscotting/paneling so that he could mount the boxes with the proper amount of stick-out from the 2x framing. I'm sure what you're doing is fine but I am just curious, if any electricians are here in the comments.

nah mate, mount the box flush with the 2x and the proper mud ring for your drywall, the outlet and switches will be fine and snug up to your paneling, longer screws if necessary, and the cover plate will do the rest of the work

I like everything except the electric plug. On my own wc I moved the plug so that is was the same height, but now in the center of the panel. I left the original plug box alone and removed the actual plug and capped with a cover (and the wc completely hides it), used additional 12/2 over to the new box from the original (plastic blue box as no stub was available at the new spot) and installed the plug there. .

I greatly appreciate the content! I have wanted to do a Wainscot project for a while, you gave me the confidence to proceed. THANK YOU. One quick question for guidance - I don't want to add the extra piece to the vertical stiles. BUT, without it, the math doesn't work. The smallest COVE I could find was 11/16. With the stiles only being 3/4 inch thick, and the 3/16 masonite, it will still be 1/8 inch proud. How do you address that, just rip it down? Or was there a step I missed?

It looks like you put the hard board onto the drywall after you had already installed the lattice strips you cut down to one inch wide, then the cove last. Is that correct? if the hard board is 3/16" thick, wouldn't that make the lattice depth just under 3/4" and if the cove goes on top of that, is there still a 1/8" reveal? I love the look you have come up with and would like to do that in my house. Love your videos

I’m guessing you have to caulk the seams between that miniature backband and the main boxes as well as both sides of the cove molding too right? As well as the rest of the cove in the room too. Ton of caulking alone but looks great and like the design a ton!

Wonderful work - I am going add wainscot to a sun room that is painted brick - do you think that just using adhesive for everything will suffice- or will I have to use tapcons etc: Thinking about applying sheets of hard board with adhesive- letting that set up - then building all the panels and glueing on top Thanks and great work again.

One thing that caught my eye particularly was your door trim. The top of the wainscot does not come out beyond the door trim. Was this custom or a piece of door trim that could be purchased from a Hardware store? That same door trim would look very complimentary with a board and batten as well.

Seems that a backband around the door casing is always present in a wainscot build. I want to use 1"x4"'s for the casings and build craftsman-style headers above my doors but I don't know how to do those with a backband. Your thoughts?

When doing a wainscot (board and batten) with a mission / craftsman style casing (the 3 piece casing tops you've done in other videos but without a chamfer on the uprights), how do you get the top rail of the board and batten wainscot to merge with the casing? The window casing uprights and top rail and styles are the same thickness, but top rail and styles are raised by the underlying tempered hardboard creating an offset. I don't want to back-cut the rails to merge with the casing uprights and I don't want to plane all of by rails and styles and lose the depth (you've gotten me to love shadows!). The videos are awesome and I am always eager to see new designs from you. Best resource on KZbin for sure!

In most case door casing isn’t 1.5” this to be able to fit a baseboard in front of the bottom rail, in that case how would you install it, assuming a uneven floor ofc?
