I've been doing floors for well over 20 years now ,trust me you'll hardly ever find a level sub floor to work off of ,the only floors you can actually fix and make perfectly level is tiles ,because you can build up your mortar bed .👍 those hardwood floors look awesome.
@zpepp43644 жыл бұрын
couldn't you use self leveling under wood floors.
@jasonlevesque93034 жыл бұрын
@@zpepp4364 , I wouldn't recommend it because when the nails or staples go thru levelastic or other leveling compounds it will crack and chip it up then you'll have crunchy sounds under your new wood floors, the wood is flexible so good flooring cleats will hold hardwood floors down the best, you can use leveler under tiles and floating plank floors. 👍
@zpepp43644 жыл бұрын
@@jasonlevesque9303 right o. I was thinking about the floating cork stuff when i wrote that, quickly realising my mistake.

Strange observation. You mentioned you have the gap on the sill because if moisture gets in it won't be able to wick up. Then you used wood shims which will assist in moisture transfer. I'm no finish carpenter anywhere near your level but I'd think using something other than wood would make sense as a shim. Like those plastic door shims you used once. They would not absorb water like wood or expand and contract due to weather, right?

In cabinet making, we always use glue in between pocket hole joints. I am not sure if it is strictly required, but everyone does always, so might as well. Also get ketchup bottles and use those for your glue, and do not cut the tip either.

Hey Rich. I'm a cabinet maker, and I've done a few wainscot jobs. Actually the last wainscot job I had was fixing some botched wainscot from another carpenter. The glue on the pocket hole joints is because over time you may get some minor movement. Especially because you are getting that lumber from the home center. They don't normally have very stable materials. It just prevents the chance for that seam cracking once you paint over it, which is relatively common in painted projects. Probably nothing you will get a call back to fix, but it's enough that if you can easily fix it, it's a nice touch. I see you didn't put a 1/4 panel on the inside. I assume the drywall is smooth on the bottom, and you are going to caulk in where the frame meets the wall and make it look like it's a panel?
@FinishCarpentryTV4 жыл бұрын
Mayday's Custom Woodworks good point. I will actually be putting tempered hardboard inside each panel.

In your crown moulding video you talked about using your laser measuring tape to get you measurements. I haven’t seen you use it in a long time. Did you find it to be inaccurate. I bought on and love it because it holds the last 5 measurements . And I usually forget the measurement 10 seconds after I read it. Great work on the room. Completely changes the look and feel of the room.
