Fantastic job with this video Billy & Sierra! Awesome to see Sierra getting in there with some splicing! Thanks for highlighting the toggles that keep the Deadeyes turned into the wind, this is important for boats that have athwartships chainplates. Nice touch on the on the hitching with the excess lashing line after tensioning! What you've done there is called "French Hitching".

G'day Bill & Sierra! Great job, guys! "Well, it was a big pizza, but I ate olive it." I sincerely enjoyed seeing your new synthetic standing rigging, (hope you know, it's a amazing work of art) along with, all the 'technical aspects' of how you folks tensioned everything. And then a neat part, where Sierra, started walking across, the rigging as a high wire. Plus! It was quite interesting how much weight you've saved. By the way.... Sierra! We enjoy the puns, too! Here's a neat rib tickler for you... Have you heard about the film editor in Hollywood, who had a part-time job at a pizza parlor? He used to ask customers, whether they wanted one splice or two. Lol! 🤣 Thank you! Cheers! ⛵️✌🏼❤️

I have to say I have seen this vid published three times, and have to admit I have watched it all three times, and still enjoy it. Knowing that this is weeks after you left and have sailed what struck me as odd was Sierra saying she was going to make two provisioning runs that I understand but on the first one she purchased frozen items. Is that because it allows you to pack it easier and stabilize it before the final provisioning run which I assume would be fresh produce and any unfrozen perishables? Regardless I enjoy your videos love the great job on tensioning your rigging.

Love your channel!..and Always look forward to each episode... If I may give a little production consult... Sierra, when you talk to the camera solo - you tend to be looking at the right side of the lens (your right - our left), but Not directly into it, so it appears that you are looking to your right (if you'll notice during editing). Not a big deal, but I think if you were looking directly at the lens of the camera, you would also appear to be looking directly at your audience more, and talking to us as if one on one, into Our eyes... Just something I have noticed many times, and finally decided to share... You guys are so awesome - Keep it up!!!

A copy from my comment above : Yeah, they could get some vertical wind turbines to replace the sales but would then need ability to adjust the vanes in or out according to wind velocity ( like reefing the sails ) . . . . but wind turbines could drive generators for electric propulsion as well as powering their computers and radar and phones and frigehfrator & freezer, and . . . . . . . . . . maybe an air-conditioner ! ! ! ( But li-ion battery storage would also be necessary ) Oh well . . . . . .
@dejayrezme8617
@dejayrezme8617 5 жыл бұрын
@@richardhobbs9038 There was a discussion on boatdesign.net about this recently. Definitely interesting possibilities! I think kite sails have more potential as an alternative sail though, once they get automated flying and launching right. I just meant a mast that doesn't need all these cables and things and is easy to depower like on a harry proa. I'm not a sailor :)
@richardhobbs9038
@richardhobbs9038 5 жыл бұрын
@@dejayrezme8617 - The mast would be replaced by the 'vertical wind turbine' replacing mast, sails, and 'rigging' . It would be depowered by rotating the wind vanes into the central column. A geared drive would expand or retract the vanes ( or 'wings' ) that catch the air giving propullsion . So, it is a 'mast' that is a bit larger in diameter 'cause it houses the curved wind vanes that are deployed as needed. Kite sails are an interesting idea as their altitude may catch wind that is not available at surface levels. ! ! ! Neat ! It may be in a different direction than surface winds, which may or may not be to your advantage, but gives you an amazing increase in options on your course and speed ! Your point of, "once they get automated flying and launching right." is the key as a computer could incorporate all the propulsion options for the best result ! I would love to see a "Sail boat" use all of these together ! ! ! ( If you 'fly' your kite into a jetstream since the new Dyneema synthetic line may allow that, you could have amazing results . Of course, jetstreams are about 30,000. feet or more up there . ) Maybe you could adapt these different propulsion methods into a new " S a i l " boat and make a fortune ! ! ( I am older and on the 'downward' spiral of life , and so am not anxious to start a new career . )
@dejayrezme8617
@dejayrezme8617 5 жыл бұрын
@@richardhobbs9038 Yeah TU Delft is exploring kite sail power generators on land with automation. It's not that hard but still some development work to do. The nice thing would be you can sail and generate power with them and they should be cheaper than wind turbines. Just less material and structure. Also great for offshore power generation.
