Today I discuss finishing books and series! I am a finisher--even if it's bad, I will read that book to the end. What are your habits on finishing books and series? Are you totally committed or do you peace out if the reading gets rough?

Great video! I completely agree with you! I ALWAYS try to finish a book. Some books may take me longer than others to get through, but I will ultimately finish it. I agree with you on series though, if I hated book one I probably won't continue.

I LOVE "The Morganville Vampires" series!!! :-) You are actually the only one on KZbin I've even heard mention that series on so far. I bought those same first 4 books (which are actually the first 8), then I ordered/pre-ordered every other MV book after that til the 15th and final book. :-) I haven't completed the whole series yet, but they are all towards the top of my TBR! :-) The audio book version of this series is excellent, too. I don't normally like audio books, but the person who narrated the MV audio books did an exceptional job of matching what I imagined each character's voice would sound like.

Some fantastic pointers about the learning experience from all types of books. I also have many series that I have brought numerous books in and I generally tend to buy books in series if I have a pretty good feeling I am going to enjoy them,

I try to finish books but it's not usually because they're bad; it's because they're boring. Majority of the books I DNFed have been because they were just not for me and were making me dislike reading. I do not feel the need to finish every series I start because there simply isn't enough time in the world for that. I agree with your point of learning from every book, good or bad. I admire your opinions and can't wait until you are a published author because you have worked hard and deserve it.

I need a time-turner too! I am definitely a book finisher. If I've gotten past like 50 pages or so, I will keep going even if I don't enjoy the book. I feel that part of this is stubbornness, but also that I feel I need to sometimes read books I don't enjoy to remember what I actually do enjoy (so I guess in that I'm similar to you). However, if I haven't gotten that far into the book I will probably put it down and then return and try another time again.

Great video :D I'm definitely a book finisher. Even if I don't like it from the very beginning, I want to give the book a chance. Because how a book ends can have a huge impact on how I feel about the book. But if I really really dislike the first book in a series I won't finish the rest of the series. Time is precious and there are so many great amazing books out there. And I think we all need a Time Turner...like right now ;)

I am a book finisher...my curiosity with how the story ends will keep me pushing through mediocre books. Series are a different story. I have read about 4 first books in series and then I'll read the premise of the 2nd book. And if that doesn't draw me in, I'm ok with letting that series go. Like you said, there are so many books! And I totally bought those exact 4 Morganville Vampire books on ebay for about 16 bucks...I need to read them soon! So many good reviews!

I have finished every book I have started for the past three years. I like to know what happens in the end regardless of my opinion, otherwise it will bug me that I never knew what happened. However, if I didn't like the first book in a series, I won't continue. If I thought the first book was just okay, then I might give the sequel a shot, it depends. I don't write, but I see your point in wanting to finish books for that reason as well.

I love to read book series too. And not all the time do I study them out to see if they are good or bad. I go by what a friend tells me or by my own intuition (looking at the front of the book, and seeing what title and then look at the reviews on the book and then look at the back to see what the book is about). if i enjoy it from that little bit of information i will purchase and then read it. A good example of a book that i did this for is the Sookie Stackhouse series. i read the first few

"Bad" books aren't worth my time or energy. I've never been a person motivated by finding out what happens in the end, even with books I love. I care more for the experience of spending time with the characters and seeing how they react to their situations. If I'm not enjoying the experience, why read more of it? If I want to know the end of a bad book I can look up spoilers. However, I really liked your point about learning from bad books for writing help! =)

I have no problems with stopping reading a book or series if I'm not enjoying it. I do usually try to give a book at least 150 pages though to see if it will pick up. And sometimes I do keep going if I have heard lots of good things about it and my friends have recommended it. I read to have fun and enjoy myself so if I'm not then it doesn't bother me to stop.

OK, so I have a little problem with books. Books are my obsession - a total and utter obsession - and I have to finish a series/trilogy no matter how bad the first book was. I suck at that and wish to change it. . . in the near future. BTW L.O.V.E your posts! I recommended it to a lot of my friends in school that are book fanatics!

I'm the same way. I have to have the complete story, for if no other reason then to know if my thoughts about the plot are right. I usually finish series to in hopes the author fixes some of the major problems if a lot of people took issue with it.

I give each book an honest chance and there have been books that I've stopped reading. Most likely, though, it's because I'm not enjoying the book of the time, but know that I might enjoy it some time in the future :) If that is the case, I'll stop reading it until I feel like trying it again.

I like finishing books mostly because I don't think it's fair to judge a story based on a single part. Often, if I don't like a book within the first two or three chapters, I don't like it at the end either, but that is not always the case, and sometimes taking that extra time to finish the book ends up being very much worth it. However, there has been the occasional book that has been so unenjoyable that I didn't feel like I could even learn from it; those few books end up shelved or donated.

I'm mostly a book and series finisher. It really bothers me to have unread books. At the moment I'm reading the Maze Runner series and the first book was really good, but I'm halfway through the second one and it's kind of a flop to me. However, I did buy the third book, so I plan on finishing it. I think the only 2 series I read the first book of and never finished were Percy Jackson and The Mortal Instruments.

I generally have to finish a book, I think I have only stopped reading two books in my life - Oil! by Upton Sinclair because it was so boring and Youth in Revolt because I hated the character so much I did not want to read the book at all. And I felt bad about quitting these books, but I didn't want to waste my time. And if I start a series I have to finish it to get closure, even if I am not enjoying the books THAT much. I didn't LOVE Twilight, but I had to read all 4 books!

I always push myself to finish books because I don't like to leave things unfinished. Usually with books I don't like I read small sections of them between other books. It takes a long time, but they do eventually get finished. I only continue a series if I liked the firs book, but I've never disliked a first book so much that I didn't read the rest.

Gave up on Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (after 400pgs.), and War & Peace (after 750pgs.) because after giving them a chance, I didn't like them. There are so many books out there. Stopped reading the Oz series by L. Frank Baum because I thought some of them too weird for me. Learned that the pacing of classic novels by eg. Dickens, Hardy & Eliot are snaily slow most times but that's the way they are. I finish those. My Q. is: Is a book/series worth my finishing it, Y or N? If N, I stop.

I always finish a book because if I'm going to rate/review it I need for my review to be valid. I don't like when people read the first 100 pages of a book and then give it one star on goodreads, because after that 100 pages, it could be a masterpiece...even though that's not usually the case. I don't finish series, though, if the book before it was bad/the next book got bad reviews.

I will finish a book, but I will not finish a series if I don't like the first book because it would be a waste of my money. And for me, researching only does so much and even if I read the first few chapters before it really doesn't matter in the end because the beginning doesn't show the end. If you know what I mean so I could never spend money on the whole series without first reading the first book and deciding if it's worth reading the next one. But that is just me and I am uber poor.
