"@Katytastic, I haven’t even hit play yet, but I already feel like saying THANK YOU! Just the idea of breaking down the 3-act, 9-block, 27-chapter structure has me hooked. As an aspiring filmmaker, this feels like discovering a treasure map for storytelling-can’t wait to watch and learn from your brilliance!"

Thanks for your video. I really enjoyed the part about not sending to your critique partner long email defending their work. Like, I get it, this is their baby, but I don't want to be the bad guy. If I weren't telling what I really think about their work, with the right arguments of course, I wouldn't feel like I was doing a good job. I wished I had discovered that video sooner and sent it to some of my critique partners.

what about sub plots?
@federicopalacios7439Ай бұрын
Subplots can be simultaneous with main plot, you can always add a few extra chapters to develop them more. But I think trying to stick to 27-ish chapters is a good way to start as practice.

Did you ever do a video on your scene outline? I'm not seeing one with an obvious name like SCENE OUTLINE lol. Would love to hear more about that! I know I'm 6 years late but here's hoping. :D

I love this break down- but I’m curious- most beat sheets have Act 2 making up 50% of the word count and Acts 1& 3 , 25% each. So how does this work out with this breakdown of chapters ?
@federicopalacios7439Ай бұрын
You can just subdivide each chapter more, make them last three chapters instead of one, and your story will end up with a longer middle act. I think trying to stick to this is good as practice for the first time, with a fist draft already done it will be much easier to decide what chapters to divide into more and what to expand.

So imagine I just managed to finish for the first time my whole outline thanks to this video, but then I went back to it and the document didn’t save lolllll but this method was so effortless that I can just do it again 😅 before I had a full outline, I would never know where to start and thus never do much writing. And I’m a bit of a pantser bc I have to be inspired. But somehow this method allows me to both write any part when I’m inspired, but still have the bigger picture/plan in place to keep the flow. 💃🏼

Your zero draft sounds a lot like a film treatment, or more so what's called a "scriptment", which has more descriptions and dialogue.

I see that point 19 is different than in the other video, Here it is listed as "Calm Before the Storm", in the other video you have it listed as "TRIALS." See: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJaWlqKagauSi9E. I have combined the two and summarize as follows: "19 Calm Before The Storm (not so calm as we build up pressure and tension), then there are More Trials and finally: The Hero finds a solution, but now must overcome doubt, or some other complication." Any comments?

This video was so much help, you having an actual example is what made is far more helpful than any other videos of the 3 act story structure. I find it very hard to have an idea how to outline my story when one is a fantasy with a side of romance while a few others I’m trying to work on happen in our earth and are pure romance, usually the acts make far more sense for books like the hobbit/the lord of the rings, so this example help me shape this 3 Act Structure into how I want my book to look. Thank you! 😄😊🤍🤍
