Finishing The John Deere 46 Inch Deck! How Quiet Is It?

Thanks for these videos. I recently bought a 1984 JD 318. It came with 2 decks, one with a lot of rust holes. I ordered new pulleys and cleaned up the better deck. I made a tool to install the bearings with about $20 of materials from Lowe’s Home Improvement. Used a set of 3/4 inch floor flanges and a 8 inch iron pipe threaded on both ends.

I just acquired a 1984 vintage 212 with the Kohler K301 motor. It came with 2 mowing decks the previous owner had. I’m working on getting at least 1 deck working, replacing bearings and pulleys. One deck has some rust holes I’ll need a welding shop to fix if I keep it. I really appreciate your videos! They are tremendously helpful as I figure this thing out!!

OK I'll ask in your opening shot you show the side door ..are you going to put a cover plate on the switch , unless you're an electrician by trade ?

i have an old pressure cooker full of oil that i put idlers into when they seem to need a little lube (not if they're locked up or if they sound really bad) . an air chuck fitted to it and 5 lb air pressure for awhile and she's lubed . careful if anyone builds one , they're only rated for around 15 lb , maybe less .

I'm genuinely asking why the 5lb pressure cooker rather than just letting the idler soak in oil (say a few hours). Will the end result be the same? I like the idea of trying to save an idler than spending 30+ dollars for another one.

@@Readyfreddyize if the bearing seals are good , no oil would enter without the pressure . at least that's my theory .
