Dude, it doesn't matter if you're not musically inclined, I think everyone hears little tunes like that, it's whether or not they act on them and try to bring them to life that makes the difference! There's a whole world of instruments to choose from, software and analog, have a play around and see if anything tickles your fancy :)

11:50 that's not the only reason. The main reason is so the board does not rock/teeter-totter in the axis of its length for boards that are cupped or twisted (look up wood warp and you'll get it)
