Today we are chopping corn silage and planting cover crops! We are opening up one of the last of our fields in preparation for picking later this fall. Meanwhile the 7510 John Deere is pulling our Great Plains drill and taking care of the cover crop. The Cover crop is a mixture of oats and rye. Thank you all for watching. In the comments let us know if you plant cover crops and of what kind.

Always enjoy having a dog with me. River is maturing. My dad's one dog absolutely loved riding with him. She would also enjoy just sitting in the truck and guarding it or waving at people. She actually locked him out a couple of times that way, but he loved it. Very appropriate that he actually got her when he bought the used truck from someone, saw a puppy running around and said "Does the dog come with the truck?" She was a good smart dog. The weather has always and continues to be something you just have to work around. Thank for taking us along.

I would replace the star knife while you are at it, It really helps when there is sharp edges on the star with the combination of a sharp knife. When you replace all that take everything apart and cover with anti seize. The knife is adjustable with an Allen wrench to bring the knife closer to the star. (Only takes a couple minutes) if you adjust everything every 25 ish acres it will keep all the adjustment screws freed up and will save a lot of headaches with grass wrapping on the knives.

A dog in the cab with you, nothing better! I'm an OTR truck driver. Had my co-driver Shea with me for over a million miles. This little 20lb poodle/schnauzer mix thought he was a 90lb Rottweiler! We had some great times together. Lost him 2yrs ago to some goofy disease. How he protected me. Miss him every day! Envious of you! Keep up the great videos!

We have A6 year old Australian and a six-month-old Australian shepherd and they both like to ride. 1 cab tractor on the place the six-year-old nose and hot weather when it's on the Baylor that's the one she wants to ride in. She will actually stand on the ground outside the cab door and wait to be invited in

Have to say I’m a relatively new sub to channel and I’m really enjoying the pace of the uploads and content you show. It’s about the way of life rather than you being a big star and having lots of focus on you it’s about your family and the farm with a great balance of both. Don’t get me wrong, we all like the big personalities but that kind of over shadows the work and way of life. I’m so in awe of the work you all get done with the kit you use, not sure I could manage an hour doing the job so hats off to you all. My aunt had a dairy but we got hit with foot and mouth, it broke her heart and she said enough was enough and changed to livery and crops and hay. I was younger back then and went down a different pathway in life but have much respect for farming and soft spot for dairy. Anyway rambled on, great channel, content and family. Keep sharing and we will keep watching, been watching a backlog of videos. Proper Job as we say in Cornwall!

You're taking good advantage of a nice fall day. Quite a tractor companion. A collie we used to have was a truck dog. All you had to say was "truck ride" and you had an instant companion. In years when we've planted wheat, sometimes used leftover seed in our IH 620 drill and planted some cover on bean stubble. A nice shower and a few warm days would help it emerge quickly.

Always used to plough and plant parallel to the road. Then nobody could see how straight you were and if you missed any rows. Great video. All the best 🇬🇧.

Grew up on a farm many many years ago. We had a yellow Ford pickup. That truck wouldn't move without the farm dog ( Frisky ) in the front seat. Even if you were driving it 20 years to put in the shed for the nite, she had to be in it.

Enjoy your videos. We have a NH FP 240 chopper that has quite a few similarities to the Gehl . NH has two rotary cutting discs that rub against against each other (bottom one is spring loaded) to keep razor sharp. Works very well, also we have a neighbour with a SP chopper who we hire to open up our fields.

I’m a truck driver and my dog absolutely hates riding in any vehicle. I have to take her with me because I don’t have any one to leave her with. She’s probably the best dog I’ve ever had though. Just a good old rescue mutt.

Another great one Aaron, you do such a good job explaining what you are doing and why. We never planted cover crops, just winter wheat and Dad always did the traditional fitting, plow, disc, drag, plant and roll. I wondered if you would have trouble with the corn debris. Loved seeing River enjoying her time with you!

I had a pair of shop cats who loved cars and pickups. Every so often, one would vanish, and I'd have to call the customers of that day and ask if they had a hitch hiker napping in their vehicle. 😂

In regards to the running over corn issue with pull type choppers I've seen guys plant their headlands and a center lane with some kind of forage grass. They can still get a crop off the land so it's not wasted and then the corn field is already opened up when it's time to chop.

You should chop that rye about may 20th next year before planting back to corn. Makes good feed if cut early and maximizes feed per acre.

I never ran a Gehl chopper, but a bunch of other Gehl equipment. I'm taking a guess that y'all have run Fox choppers in the 70's. Thier heads could take more than the feedrolls could.

We have been drilling radishes as cover crop over the top of the chopped corn. They grow quick in the fall, do a good job of breaking up the soil, and add a good amount of nitrogen back to the soils after it gets froze out in the fall.
