I enjoy this video a lot. I am an American who has visited Finland 3 times. The first time I went I was in Helsinki in the middle of summer. The sun was not setting (I didn't realize how strange that would be to someone who hasn't experienced it lol), I had no grasp of the language, I was completely jet-lagged, and I wanted nothing more than to go straight home. I stuck with it for a few days and eventually things got better. I visited Suomenlinna (enjoyed the museums there) and really appreciated the architecture in Helsinki. I also had a Finnish friend meet up with me and he showed me around the city. On subsequent visits I have spent more time with my friend and visited Tampere and Turku. Overall I have found a sense of peace and relaxation that's very hard to describe. I would agree that Finland has made me face my fears. Hopefully I will be back this fall, I would like to visit Joensuu and Koli next.

I heartily recommend Koli region, I am biased because I was born there :D but I advice to insist on finding an original North Karelian meal with Karelian stew and hand-made Karelian pies and all that. I have travelled the world, but I'm still amazed at their love for music and their food and nature, it is just one of those indigenous things still left to be found in this world.

I love this video! This video makes me very happy. The more I learn about Finnish people, the more I like them. They are shy but loyal, honest, and happy. Culture invites you to reflect and delve into introspection since you spend lots of time alone in nature. Instead of being constantly surrounded by people, it helps you reflect on your inner self. Introspective culture!

Interesting. I like this video. Genuine self-reflection can be a difficult process. If most Finns have this ability naturally, that is amazing. It seems most of the men in the West have lost their understanding of stoic strength. I'm glad it's alive and well in Finland. So a trip to Finland is a journey to inner strength and growth. Most countries advertise their malls and parks and sites to see. There seems to be an effort from Finland to attract, new, quality people to the country. Is this true? If so, why?

This is a good vid. Here I can agree with you. You have a good understanding of the culture. I wouldn't ever want Finns to integrate fully to the rest of the world, because this process is needed to produce strong individuals for the world (strong in inner strength!)

I am studying in Finland and I had an opportunity to visit Netherlands for a week. Common, the social life is top notch and very welcoming. If you say they have this trauma, I think they shouldn't pass it across to their children. I have made efforts to make friends of some Finnish students, however, the reserved and conserved traits is so high. And just like you stated I am very spontaneous and talkative....I sometimes see that overwhelming resentment😁. But then, I love the finns and I really appreciate your sincerity in challenging us to bring the good from wherever we are coming from and make a difference in changing the narrative Merry Christmas

Yeah, Finns have a very difficult past. It will change and not be passed on to children that much in the future as Finland is becoming more heterogeneous. You already can meet enough Finns who are more open to the idea of a bigger world. But it’s still hard for the newcomers.

im british sandinavian and finnish my grievances with anglo culture and finnish culture are the same however i like that finns seem more lowkey and genuine. british people are more intimidating and unpredictable. Sometimes i like to be more aggressive and out there but i dont like how it seems to be recieved the wrong way by my peers

I don't think the lack of social skills is something exclusive to Finland, I think it's something tied to all Nordic countries. When I went to Sweden I noticed that people there had poor social skills too. I've had like 5 foreign friends who I have met here who decided to move out of Finland because of how difficult it is to connect with people here. I think this attitude is very problematic for Finland because if you are a foreigner as soon as you put a foot on a different country you'll notice that people treat you much better so foreigners see no point in staying in Finland despite the welfare state benefits. Dating in Finland is a very interesting topic because I think Finns have no clue on how to date someone. I've had multiple approaches when I comes to dating women here but I think the only approach that works here is that you need to have a lot of patience and teach them how dating and relationships work, for some reason Finns have a strange detached view of relationships that I still don't fully understand. It would be quite interesting if you made a video on how Finns date and their dating skills.

Hmm. Do you really think that Finns don't know how to date? Here in Finland, there are DIFFERENT ways of dating than, for example, in the USA. It's quite arrogant to think that Finns don't know how to date, when in fact it's that YOU don't understand Finns' ways of socializing, dating and getting to know each other. It is true that Finns could learn to express their feelings a little more freely, but our way is, in general, to avoid empty and unnecessary chatter. Let's talk when it's necessary, a person shouldn't talk about all the possible things that come to his mind. It only wastes other people's time and very often only reveals one's own stupidity. Also, according to a well-known theory, people who talk about everything and express every movement and feeling of their mind are afraid that their brain will start working. Then you may have to face yourself and THAT is a scary situation for many.

@@sanher20 Are people lonely here in Finland? If they are I wonder if dating is solution to this problem. Different cultures have different ways of dating. Especially here in Finland, where gender equality has progressed quite far, we don't miss the dating ways of conservative cultures where the man pays for meals and is an active party and the woman has to be attracted to the relationship. Childish games that adults don't need nowadays. Romance is a happy and wonderful thing, but maybe it doesn't need a lot of external decorations besides itself. It may be that people from different cultures miss games and rituals because they don't know how to express their will directly, but I guess most Finns know what they are looking for.

@@Beorninki if you were to visit other countries you'll notice immediately how lonely people in Finland are, and I mean, going out with someone is obviously one way of solving that problem but you didn't know that. If you think Finland has more gender equality than other countries you're delusional, and that has absolutely nothing to do with dating, bro nobody cares who pays for the meal, that is irrelevant, men pay because they want to do it, because they want to offer it as a present in good faith, if you have ever given a birthday present to someone or you have received one then you should know what it means but you do not understand that concept. Also I don't know what are you based off to conclude that people in Finland are more direct, I've dated in Finland and in fact they're not direct are all because they don't talk, I don't know how can you be straightforward without talking and communicating properly. Dating is different in every country and has pros and cons everywhere, is up to you to identify the strengths and weaknesses of dating in Finland and decide what you want to do, it's very easy to compare how dating in Finland works to the other countries and if you do that you'll notice that dating is significantly worse and that there are a lot of single people in Finland
