In this review of the Nordic's land armies, the Finnish army (Maavoimat), the Norwegian army (Den Norske Hæren), The Swedish army (Svenska Armén) and the Danish army (Den Danske Hæren), we look at the quantities of both manpower and operational equipment. Please bear in mind that this list is not exhaustive as armies often do not disclose all of their gear. I've also left out some pieces that aren't really relevant on a regional level.
Before you jump into the comments to say that Iceland is also considered in the Nordics - yes I know. Iceland just doesn't have any military capability to speak of.

In conclusion, the Nordic countries have a quite large professional force, and when you include their reserves and home guards it is one of the most potent fighting forces of Europe.

Finland also does it a diffirent way then the other 3 country the way there defence and training is setup. Since they are litterly right next to Russia via land. Finland's land army sure is one hell of a force. With the navy and airforce (until they get their F35s) it's a bit different. Norway and Sweden are currently carrying those departments, and Denmark also has a modern very capable navy.

@@MilitaryRated Hornets are still (after 30years) pretty good planes. Better what Russia can send. But yes F-35 will make a huge change. Finland will have 4 very modern corvettes also. I think Nordic countrys should start buy materials together. Cheaper price and its always good to operate same kind of systems. Nordic countrys have huge lansmass compare to other European countrys.

​@@MilitaryRatedThe task for the navy is a bit different in Finland, as it has no need to be able to operate anywhere else than the Baltic Sea. The Finnish navy is not that big but it has one advantage that the rest of the Nordics are missing - my daughter as a NCO in the reserves. Took part in the NATO Baltops 23 excercise in the German waters last summer.

It would also mean jobs locally, and money going to the states as the companies are all part state owned in the Nordics rather than 100% private in the US, France or U.K.

A new and good initiative is the defence cooperation between the Nordic Countries. Eventually it will become the Kalmar Defence Forces (KDF) because scandinavians are suckers for nostalgia :-)

And a lot of F-16’s !!!!!! VERY GENEROUS AND LOYAL ! That is what you can call resolve ! and sold another part to Argentina, also Norway and the Dutch donated. Belgium only a few but participates in flight training. Delivery of the F-35 is quite late for BELGIUM as they entered the program very late, so needs its fleet ! Decided only about 4-5 years ago to join. The F-35 came a bigger success than thought, I rather saw more EU countries buying Gripen and also some Rafale and Super Hornet. Gripen for sure for Eastern European countries. Even Croatia bought Rafale. And Greece F-35 ánd Rafale, next to their fleet of quite recent F- 16. Rafale for sure for its anti-ship capability. And updated version of Eurofighter. You see Germany, Italy and the UK combine F-35 and Eurofighter. Where Germany first thought to buy some F-18 Growlers. The Swiss and Finns should down their fleet of F-18 and replace by F -35. No combination, sadly. The payload capacity of 2 engine planes like the F-18 is quite big !

When I was stationed there for two weeks in the 90s to do a NCO course we had this joke going. 'How do you tell an introvert Finnish person from an extrovert Finnish person?' 'The extrovert looks at your shoes when he's talking to you'. I always found the Finns to be wonderful company, silent in the start but when you get them as friends you have them for life, they're loyal, caring and extremely fun company after a few beers or koskenkorvas.

Finland is the shield of the north. Not just by military numbers but by terrain. Dense forests full of lakes swamps, rivers and massive boulders that make use of vehicles almost impossible. The coast is a maze of hundreds of thousands of small islands and rock formations.

Each nordic country has things going for them in terms of terrain. Swedish islands, Norways mountains. And Denmark is practically a island, any attack on them would have to either defeat their navy (and possibly Norways and Swedens as well) Or they'll have to face amphibious operations behind their lines all over Denmark. And their capital literally is on a island, simplify their defense. Finland isn't alone in being hard to invade.

Denmark is a bunch of islands. Swedish forests have almost as much marsh and bogs as Finland, where we don't have mountains. About lakes. If you count lakes LARGER than 1 ha (a little less than a half acre) Finland 'only' has around 56 000, compare that to the 65 000 in Norway, and 95 700 in Sweden. But of course, Finland is smaller. AND, if we start to count every little puddle, larger than 1/2 ha Finland has 168 000 lakes. The definition of "lake" in the 'Svenska Sjöregistret' (SMHI) is a little blurry, but OVER 369 000 lakes in Sweden. I can only wish an ice cold 'good luck' (😈) to whomever tries to go through our countries. Finland and Sweden have the same sort of archipelago, thousands of islands, islets and shallows. And more shallows. And a few more shallows. And between islands and shallows, some places can be pretty deep. Pretty much the same structure as on land. A lot of bumbs and pits. Worth mentioning is that NORWAY isn't only mountains and fjords, they have lakes too. Close to HALF A MILLION, whereof a great majority are in the fjells. The difference between Norway on one side and Finland - Sweden on the other, is that Norway has almost all cities and villages relatively close to either the sea, or to a fjord, leading to the sea, whereas Fin - Swe have more spread out populations. Living between our lakes😃. 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸 😉 BUT, to my knowledge Sweden is the only country with a Russia safe archipelago outside of the capital 😂. "The Singing Sailor Underwater Defense System". A neon sign with a guy wearing a sailor's hat and shorts, making Elvis-moves. You can also read the text "Welcome to Sweden, gay since 1944". The year is when Sweden legalized homosexuality. To emphasize the message the system sends a Morse code: "This way if you are gay". It's true! This is actually what you can find somewhere in the Stockholm archipelago. I don't know exactly where, but you search for the Morse code, if you like. If it still works. BUT, it's of course not made by any part of the Swedish Military Forces. The opposite, actually. The Swedish peace organization Svenska Freds put it there in April 2015, a while ago. Why? They not only dislike war (as if the rest of the people on Earth like it), they also dislike injustice, oppression and discrimination. This is a humorous, but unfortunately not easy to spot, way to tell Russia to stay away, and change the political system to a real democracy AND get rid of the homophobic and stupid laws they have implemented about homosexuals.

I believe the point was that the first one on the line for an invasion will be Finland. Therefore the terrain is a huge factor, especially in the Eastern Finland.

@@annabackman3028 For the lakes or island counting, it usually depends on who is counting. Like they usually don't want their country come last among the Nordic ones... For military every puddle that makes it impossible for the enemy to advance is counted no matter what its total size is. Finland and Sweden does not have the same type of archipelago, not even close. Sweden has a "deep" coastline so that's why they have subs while Finland has a very shallow one, you can almost walk between islands and the islands are also growing every year due to the ice age pressing the land down(I can see the change during my life that rocks that e swam around as toddlers are now only touching water when its high). So already as someone growing up there you can drive with the boat through areas depending on the direction of the wind the last weeks(this is why city people usually end up hitting rocks because they don't always understand that the water level move by over a meter). My point is that all we need to do in Finland is to remove the markings for the lanes and it would become a very slow trip for boats without a local captain while in Sweden its deep waters.

Very good but I want to mention a few things seen from a Finnish view. One important part of the defence are the nasty mines. The Bay of Finland for instance will be covered in sea mines in case of a war. It was a big problem for the defence when land mines had to be abandomed. I don't know about that situation today. Finnish defence is very much about the 1300 km long border with Russia (as before). Sweden again has that long sea border and that makes for a different defence strategy not so much depending on artillery for instance. I have found that many central Europeans compare the border to a 1300 km in central Europe and do not understand how wild and remote with few roads this Finnish Russian border is for most of that 1300 km. This video will show the terrain well, and the music is good. Some public servant in the EU asked about how many woods Finland has and that we found a bit amusing. About the 4:47 mark, yes, Finland's reserves are 800,000 and the regular army is about 200,000, for 1,000,000 total troops, or 18.18% of its total 2024 population of 5.5 million. If the USA, with 330 million people had the same percentage in the military, we would have 59.99 million, and not about 2 million. Bravo to Finland.

I am from Singapore. My country's population of Citizens/Permanent Residents (excluding Foreigners) stands at 3.6M but our standing army is 300,000+ strong! If you include all the soldiers who have been demobilized up to the age of 49, our army can be up to 1 Million strong! That's why many have said Singapore has the largest armed forces in the world based on soldier : population ratio ever.

Finland is building 4 new very capable Pohjanmaa class corvettes. They all have VLS with 32 missiles. Air defence system Davids Sling is also bought from Israel. Together with 64 F35 and NASAMS batterys i think the Finnish air space is a very tough nut to crack.

New Swedish/Finnish carbine in many versions will be from Finnish SAKO who makes very good hunting rifles and Finland also have other very good companies like Patria. We got Norwegian NAMMO and Kongsberg. Not sure what Denmark has but can probably provide superb logistics. (and spy on the neighbors about the deals, *wink wink*) The new rifles will come in these variants and will probably get the designation AK24 or variants thereof: All info subject to change* * AK24 pdw: 5,56x45 with 11,5” barrel * Automatic carbine: 7,62x51 with 16” or 18” barrel * Marksman rifle: 7,62x51 with 18” or 20” barrel * Sniper rifle: 8,6x70 with 27” barrel * Anti material: 12,7x99 * Machine gun: 7,62x51 And a + for it's looks. Finland most of the time was under Sweden btw. And later it was Grand Duchy of Finland under Russian protection and later when the revolution happened in Russia the freedom for Finland was given accepted by Russia without any warfare... But Finland in 1939 was a threat for USSR and was preparing for war as a HItler's ally what would happened later in 1941. So don't threat Russia, you will be defeated any way. @@ivan200804 Yes, my grandmother and grandfather worked in such a camp, and when the prisoners were sent back home, they did not want to go, they said they would be shot as traitors, after being captured, we do not know what happened to them. My grandfather gave them an address to keep in touch but he never heard from them.

Finland’s conscript and reserve system produces a fighting force of 280 000 soldiers in time of war. So the army is not fully functional operationally without some of the reserves called from the pool of around 870 000 reserve soldiers. Using Stetson-Harrison method one could say that at least around 150 000 are in land combat units. The losses will be replenished from the pool of reserves in time of war and the excess will be used in the meantime as with the rest of the population to implement Finland`s concept of total defence that will use all private and public resources and assets in the country needed for defending Finland and its population. Finland has ordered a new and capable anti-aircraft system called David`s sling to supplement existing systems. In AT sector, Finland has aquired also Spike SR and Spike ER missile systems to complement NLAW and older missile systems. Sisu is studying the possibility to produce 155mm wheeled artillery to increase Finland`s shoot and scoot capability. Some Finnish units are currently field-testing the first production batch of new combat clothing system called NCU that all Nordic armies will use in near future. Sako is producing sniper rifles and assault rifle systems already for Sweden as Finland is yet to decide the final caliber for the assault rifle.

I suggest you travel a bit and check out the countries in question before you throw your fools hearth at them. Finland is not a normal country. There is nothing normal there. There is practically no business relatationship with Finland, because they are freekin difficult to work with. Sweden is constantly plotting how to take over the nordics. They have not given up the ambitions of Karl the 12. They would happily let others do the dirty work, just to bring a surprise to the table. Same in business. The Danish does not at all recognise the other countries as worthy. Denmark is european and doesn't want to have anything to do with monkeys. If the other countries where burning, they would send firewood to hurry the process. I am not even sure if they would shrug. Danish is also the most argumentative of them all. All of these countries sees norway as 1 of 200 other countries, why should they care at all. And norway ... norway is just a mess. No plan, no ambition or leadership. Too much money, which is just burnt in piles. We have maybe 500 ok troops. What is the plan with that? Denmark and Sweden have taken turns to rule norway, and they didn't fight to keep it. None of this can work together. The illusion of cooperation is because american generals come here and say "you go here and you go there, you do this and you do that". Thats it.

As a Finn good analysis, Denmark need to step up they feel safe in the middle of Europe. We have the manpower and motivation to stop an invasion but we need the tools. Those with no border to an treat should still invest in order to send it to the countries in need.

Denmark geographically is a choke point for Russia, if they can use their navy and air force to keep ships from leaving the Baltic sea then Russia looses a huge portion of exports which it heavily relies on. it´s navy can also much more effectively support the Baltic states and other allies by the Baltic sea

Denmark's strategic position means that they both control the exit of the Baltic Sea but are also in a position to move forces North along the coast of Norway, if the Baltic Sea is not a safe route to transport personnel, equipment and supplies to Finland and the Baltic states. Since there are no direct land threats to Denmark, maybe 2 brigades of land forces would be the maximum to invest in. 1 to be part of a Nordic Division and 1 as a strategic, amphibious reserve.

@@Zajuts149 our first brigade just ordered 115 extra CV90, 7 Leopards plus mortar and air defense. This gives 1st and 2nd brigade a total of 159 CV90 and 57 Leopards. This seems to be a change in doctrine. We used to run a one to one ratio. But seeing how much better IFV's are doing in Ukraine compared to MBT's. Especially the CV90. It's a no brainer to focus IFV's.

It's sensible for non-Finnish nations to concetrate on air power, instead of artillery, as they share no land border with a "certain nation". They could contribute in the cost of using artillery by stocking barrels and ordinance though. Fighter jets are quick to relocate, unlike artillery, and can strike much farther. Finland and Sweden already operate their air forces in a similar decentralized manner.

Norway was in the Archer program, this was a joint Swedish-Norwegian program, but Norway cancelled Archer back in 2013. The reason was a lack of progress, time overruns, unproven technology, we needed new artillery and couldn't wait. K9 was selected by Norway, Finland, Estonia and Poland, some may argue that those nations do have a high degree of interest in having artillery system that works, as I recall it, there will be K9 production facilities in Poland, so maintenance should not be a major issue.

Only mistake and its not even mistake is that if u add Finns 50-60years old u Finland has more than 1 100 000 trained soldiers. 50years old is pretty good shape. And officers in reserve now must take part of war if they are 61-65years old. Old number was 60years. Finland is buying a lot of stuff and they are not all public information. Also Finnish artillery is bigger. We have old stuff a lot. U can not see them anywhere. But i have seen these in year 1994. Huge underground weapon shelters. Even nukes can not destroy these shelters below the solid rock. Around 50meters deep or so. I have seen only wich are close to Helsinki.

Sea areas which Finland has to defend are full of bigger and smaller islands and shallow waters and rocks right below surface in nasty way. Finnish naval forces have been planned that in mind. Also fighter jets have been bought and equipped with similar principles. All branches are planned to work together as one well oiled "machine". I don't think that you have deeper information about these things and you look just statistics in this. All equipment, no matter where it is bought will be modified in needed way to work in Finnish environment and weather conditions and nothing major is bought without proper testing.

@@FBugle I agree that the air force will be very powerful once the F35's arrive. The Hornets are decent, and will likely act as a good backup for the F35s, but they're 70-80's tech. Once Finland adapts the F35 the nordics air force will be lethal without you even seeing them on radar, it will be like having a wing of the US air force pounding down on you. @@MilitaryRated Yes of course things develop, but F-18's are more like carriers of certain weaponry and also meant to keep Russian fighter jets in line. With certain modernizations they do their job also today with no problems. Finnish air force isn't weak at the moment, it simply gets a bit stronger with new fighters. This would be a long issue to discuss overall. But Finnish armed forces are built up in a bit different way than some others. Now Nato membership causes of course some tuning up. But Hornets do their job just fine at the moment for Finnish needs. Like in one movie.. "Maybe old, but not obsolete". And weapon systems installed are latest technilogy. I get your point, but I still disagree calling it weak point. But it needs modernization and it happens before age would be real problem.

These numbers are current ones, but massive military spending's has been approved, atleast in Denmark and I would imagine the other Scnadinavian countries too, meaning these numbers will be much higher in the future. Conscriptions are also being increased twofold or more. Denmark was about to get a lot of Caesar artillery systems, but donated all of them to Ukraine. We then ordered another batch and helped funding yet another 78 of these for Ukraine. Same goes for tanks and planes where we have massive orders in the works and keep donating and funding more for Ukraine. It is very nice to see that Scnadinavian countries work so well together and counts as a major force or atleast will be. I would love to see the countries specialize in areas that makes sense, like all 4 can supply planes, Denmark and Norway should focus on their fleets as well as highly trained rapid response teams of 5k personnel etc. military engineers and drone operators. Sweden and Finland with the highest populations would be the main boots on the ground with professional artillery and tank crews etc.

Norway have always been weird with sharing information, they are expert on hiding the true information about everything, quite often, you have to know people and also remember small notes an anecdotes in News paper. For example Norway's reserve force wasn't listed, until an officer planning one of the big exercise that was hold in Norway a few years ago, when he was asked if he had enough men and he answered that he would just use some reserve soldiers. up until then there wasn't anywhere written that Norway had a reserve force! - Norway's reserve numbers are weird. I have heard that it was 120000, where 40000 of them are used by the Home Guard. - Norway also base it logistics on having deals with big commercial companies, for transport of cargo, thus save a lot of money on ships that would normally just be sitting around, when not used. - Norway have in additional to the normal vehicle list as shown in the video. Marked cars that are owned by private people as "car's that the military can take in use", owner of those cars would get a message that their cars are marked as of interest for the military (Usually 4x4 and transporters), thus the military can expand it's "car" fleet massively on short notice. - Norway do also have in the law, that if war, 1/4 of the population can be called in. - Norway also store and maintain a large number of equipment for x-amount of US Marines, in Norway. For faster respons time for US/NATO. If we look at each country individually they are badly equipped, but with tricks up their sleve. But when you combine them.... And oh, the Scandinavian/Nordic countries do exercise a lot together, even the emergency service in these countries can cross the borders without having to do a phone call

But also increase service personel by 50% in the same periode.. (I saw the pressbriefing some weeks ago, but cant remember exatly..) There are also extensive plans for boosting output of prodution on material and platforms we make our selfs.. (new produtionlines for Kongsberg ,Nammo, Raufoss and so on) Only time will tell if they will get what they need to meet the challenges of a more unsertain future... The Swedish number for artillery is way of, the number shown is just the number of the Archer system they have, they have other system also like Haubits and Bofors, Sweden also have MSHORAD anti air system.

In this video, the number regarding the Home Guard in Sweden is seriously wrong, they claim that Sweden only has 22,000 men and this is not true at all. The number of home guards in Sweden in 2023 amounts to 50,000 home guards. Then the number of conscripts in 2024 amounts to 8,000 soldiers. Which will later be increased to 10,000 men. Sweden is investing a lot now in Swedish defense and all the figures mentioned will be increased.

Sweden's army's own homepages quote 40 battalions and 21.200 men. I'm sure that's due to increase, but as of now it is 22.000. All the nordics countries are investing heavily, it'll be a terrifying force once they're also well coordinated between eachother. @@MilitaryRated dont forget that Sweden and all Nordic nations have a huge pool of males to pick from,generations, think for example in Sweden, like 80% of every male between the age of 95-30 has done militery training for 6-12 months, those dont show up in these numbers. apprently there also active registered hunters in sweden, about 300.000 of them. so a huge part of the male populus in sweden will be ready and trained on how to kill an invader if shit hits the fan. i bet its the same for Finland and perhaps Norway and Denmark

Agreed, Sweden is a sleeping giant in that sense. I've been to the cold war bunkers and storage facilities in Sweden on my instructor tours in the 80-90's, and I've never seen so much stockpile of armaments and equipment. Kudos to Sweden. Hopefully they can get back there.

This is very interesting. Good to know. Is there a command and control structure enabling the Nordic militaries to act in a coordinated fashion? Looking back over the history of “modern” warfare its clear that there have been many well designed and rigorously tested weapons systems that actual combat showed had hidden flaws that had to be addressed to make them effective. Modern Nordic weaponry may well be much more battle proven than I know of. Barring that what has been done, or can be done, to reveal and rectify such flaws, if they exist, in the Nordic systems?

If you're talking about the kit, then pretty much all the Nordic gear has seen action. NASAMS, Archer, CV90 and Strv122 in Ukraine, Sisu and their APC variants have been deployed to most of the foreign engagements of NATO\UN for years and years together with the CV90. The Ukrainians can't get enough of the Archer, it's one of the fastest and most accurate systems in the world. There might be some kinks to work out, but when it comes to technology the Nordics possesses some of the most intuitive companies in the world.

Terrain and R-factor are also important, in case you don't know what R-factor is, I will explain: If #Russians do something it, usually fails. In the last two wars against #Finland, criminal #terrorist state #SovietUnion suffered 1.3 million total casualties of which 0.5 million were KIA/MIA, more than #US casualties in the #WW2, 9 x US casualties in the #vietnamwar.

My biggest gripe is that we all should be flying the Saab Gripen. As it was mentioned in the video, logistics is everything, and in case of war, getting fresh supplies of planes from Sweden would be battle-changing. Also, the point of at least Norway's Air Force is stopping Russian nuclear bombers and to a certain extent Russian attack planes. For that you need quality's as an interceptor and a little bit of a dog-fighter. The Gripen is superior to the F-35 in those aspects. I've served as a conscript in Norway and also the home guard - even though all countries are small in population, they are big (or long) in area (Except for Denmark) so having fresh supplies is paramount. Both Norway and Sweden are some of the biggest weapons producers in the world per capita, and we should use those capabilities to the max.

I'm a Norwegian Reserve Officer, this (along with the next video) was very nice. I have been very worried since around 1990+, which was the time when Norway's (at the time) leftish government decided to "use the peace dividend" to demilitarize the nation. We had two or three cases of break-ins in military depots, mostly stealing a case or two of AG3 (I.e. HK3) NATO rifles, this was used as the pretext to withdraw all military rifles from the reserves! We used to have 300-500K such rifles, along with a minimum of 150 rounds of 7.62 ammo, in private homes, and they were effectively _never_ used for criminal activities. I.e. we were very similar to the current Swiss (or Finland?) setup. BTW, those 150 rounds were supposed to be used for training, when you did so you just reported how many you had fired and got free replacements. After 1992 I never got my rifle back. It had serial number 196296, I had to report that back in writing every year to prove I still had it, as well as bring it along to local and NATO exercises every 3-5 years. (This was a very good specimen BTW, I regularly shot 85-90 points on the yearly marksmanship badge test.)

I'm a military vet and I have learned that it is very important for these different militaries need to train together, to draw on different strength of each. As a partnership, with their histories they could be one of the worlds best militaries. Cross training than maybe adding in the American, British and Israelis special forces. World lookout!

I think Sweden's strategic roles has changed significantly in NATO. It's role is now to act as support and logistics for Finland, North Norway, and the Baltics. If anything it needs less land equipment. It's role is to reactivate and refurbish all is underground factories and storage, and invest in transport and air defense.

Let’s not forget the size of the combined land mass which is arguably much bigger than e.g. France and the U.K. Denmark although having by far a much smaller territory (not counting Greenland in this context) is lagging way behind on equipment.

A few words about the conscription in Finland. I think it's a very good tradition. Young guys are often away from home for the first time, they get stronger and more mature. They will meet other guys from elsewhere, guys of all sorts, and it's a good thing. They will find that some guys just have some more of something than other guys, like the ability to take command of a group in an easy and natural way. They will learn a lot about the Finnish people and learning howto get along outside in harsh conditions are good thing to learn too. It is said that one of the advantages Finnish soldiers had in WW2 was their ability to quicly choose new "leaders" if their officers fell. Sweden might have saved some money when ending their conscription but I am sure they lost something as a people. Also girls can join voluntarily today. Damn straight. Most of Nato is showing lack of resolve when it's needed. So the north of Europe is spending a lot on defense. There's even a combined Nordic air command now. The Baltics and Poland is also on a crazy spending streak. It's honestly wild. I never thought as a Dane that I would see my government spend more of its GDP on weapons than the US does. It's a wild thought, and I'm here for it.

By the sounds of it they also need to distribute their military production. Having everything built in one factory in Sweden makes it a prime military target. The K9 could also be made under rights in the Nordic countries. For example, Australia identified that if war broke out the supply lines between Europe and Australia would be broken so they make the Austeyr, the Australian-made Austrian Steyr. The Australians have made seven modifications to the original design as they learned how well it performed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and another eight optional extras. Australia then sells these to its allied governments in the Pacific.

There's also decent production capability in Norway (NAMMO+Kongsberg), and Sweden has a multitude of factories (Hägglunds, Bofors, Saab). But I agree, Denmark could also use its own production facilities - for something like Archer or CV90.

Norway was a part of the Archer system, if I remember correctly. I think we bailed out due to lack of mobility in terrain?

Yes, they were. Time has shown that it is very capable, so possibly not the best decision..

@@MilitaryRated Maybe? The terrain in Norway is very different from much of the terrain in Sweden, Finland and Ukraine. Different terrain have different needs. A terrain mobility test is easily done, so I would believe they had theire reasons to ditch the program.

I guess you have, or will check out the special helicopter we bought, many years ago. - To buy standard equipment give you a better defence, just because you get more of the stuff, and not at least, at the right time...

I think that if Norway wanted to they could inject enough cash into Kongsberg and Nammo to develop their defence industry to the point of Sweden's industry. Money spent internally rather than in South Korea or whatnot is positive for Norway. They've got the skills for it, they just need the investment. Even if you just got the archer for the Southern battalions you'd still have interoperability with Sweden's defence.
