There are times when you must read news. But some news should never be read. Example, I couldn't care less about what celebrities are doing. But I care about how my country uses my tax moneys, especially when it is being used to financed wars and atrocities in a foreign country. Of course, before reading news you must ask yourself who finances and owns the news you will be reading. Having said that, it is also crucial not to waste your attention on silly irrelevant information.

Finland was less homogenous 300 years ago than it is today. The Finns themselves were more different from each other than they are now. Regional differences were greater. Have you heard of the notion of "The Finnish Tribes" as in Tavastians, Karelians, Ostrobothnians and so on? No one talks about those any longer. The history of Finland begins from 12th century. The earliest written documents are from that era. Around that time, the concept of Finnish people didn't even exist. Tavastians (hämäläiset) fell under Swedish rule when the Kingdom of Sweden built a castle in Tavastia in the mid-13th century. In 1293, they fought against Karelians, won and built the Viipuri castle. Until that time, the Tavastians and the Karelians were adversaries competing for the same hunting and fishing grounds. There was no political structure uniting these two groups before rule by the Kingdom of Sweden. The current monoculture is the result of a long process of homogenization. These days, many of the differences between Finnish regional dialects clearly present until many decades ago have started to disappear from young people's speech. This has been documented. For example, in my dealings with people from Lappeenranta about 10-20 years younger than myself, I've found that their speech sounds much closer to Standard Finnish than that of my late grandmother who was from that region even after her living in the heart of Tavastia for nearly 60 years. A couple of generations ago, people from different regions spoke in different enough ways as to sometimes get mocked for their speech if they relocated to regions other than their home region. These days, accents may differ between different parts of the country but vocabularies are fairly uniform and Tavastian syntactic and morphological features are making inroads into the speech patters of people in other, faraway regions.

Finland has had its share of traumatic events in the past but what country hasn't? When it comes social interaction, each culture has its own characteristics. Whether you like them or not is a subjective matter. Some countries were founded by colonists and immigrants. Those countries inevitably have an extroverted culture because most people are not that many generations removed from being fresh off the boat themselves and with no networks to rely on. Under those circumstances, you'll see a lot more extroverted, contact seeking behavior. The flipside of that is the attitude that there's plenty of fish in the sea. If you fail to meet someone's expectations even after some time has passed knowing them, they are more likely to drop you like a hat. Finland is a small country in Europe and Northern Europe at that. Most people have their old networks in place and are not seeking to expand them. In this regard, our dear Nordic neighbors aren't that radically different from us. Swedes tend to somewhat be more polite and less blunt but in terms of extroversion not much different. Norwegians give you some leeway as a newcomer but strongly expect you to conform to their ways if you stay for the long haul.

I'm not Finnish but I don't think you have a right to tell people who they should date. Of course, b*tches are everywhere. Men and women are not so different. They can be equally t*rds or kind but blaming only one sex for problems is discriminatory. Do you think it's only the women's fault that men don't hate? Every men are innocent? "How to get a great Finnish girl who is sweet, relaxed and adorable?" from What makes Finnish women special video: What about confident, strong, smart? (not being ***hole) Don't misunderstand me! I support interracial relationships, it's also not okay if we are too similar or too different. Too similar is boring, too different causes conflict. But reading the comments and seeing similar videos from antifeminist youtubers I smell antifeminism here. I've seen tons of women blaming video titles. Even women make such these videos. If you agree with them you are just another hypocrite antifeminist. Hypocrite because you live in a feminist country and you try to look nice.

Very interesting. As a finn it is good to hear these things also. I have lived abroad and i think its true what you saying. Its good that you have read so well about finlands history. Some people might think that finland always has been developed country but only 50 years ago it really wasnt. Also its good that you notice difference between western countries and finland. Some people think that finland is western country even that its totally not western.

U have ur history wrong. Finland wasnt a very poor country in the 70s. We actually collaborated with the nazis unfortunately, and thus lost ww2, which did leave us in a somewhat bad place. The push for education and specialisation comes from the lack of natural resources. I also think u get finnish society and culture totally wrong. Finnish people aren’t a monolith, seems like you’ve just bad bad experiences and go off of weird stereotypes

If a foreigner wants to get to know finnish people, at first they have to humble down and take our society as it is. It's intimidating for finns if you are loud and pushy. Finnish people speak good/understandable english in general but we have got a very noticable accent which make many finns shy speaking english. If you take effort to learn some very basic finnish you are already in a right track breaking the ice. It doesn't matter how good your finnish is or how you pronounce the words and we might giggle a bit and correct you, but it's all good and some feel less shamed speaking english back. In general finnish people absolutely love talking with people from foreign countries and would love to get to know them. You only have to understand Finland has got a very small population and our land is located in the edge of the world and our language is unique. Climate is harsh. We are also patriots and we adore our country. Be respectful and things will be fine! I hope these tips help you if you want to visit Finland or are planning to stay a while :)

Dating is a problem these days throughout much of Western Civilization. At least in the US, females are becoming more and more quasi-masculine and the males, quasi-feminine. It is better in general to have masculinity and femininity from the original sources.

@PersonalNotPrivate-rl8dv
@PersonalNotPrivate-rl8dv 21 күн бұрын
@@loweffortedward Why is it lucky that western countries make up only 15% of the world's population? Also, I never said I don't like women from the US or Western women. A comment about a trend involving some women, even if a large amount, is not necessarily a comment about all women in the same geographical place, etc. Especially in the US, where there was a "mad dash" to have as many people arrive on its shores as fast as possible so a functioning economy could be developed to be able to trade with England, France, etc., and so we could trade internally, not to mention learn how to manufacture weapons to defend against future invasions, etc. The point is that the population is diverse, in the older sense of _diverse_ as a result. I have yet to know a place, a people, and/or a culture that doesn't have tradeoffs if one starts making comparisons either across other/different cultures and customs, etc, or when compared against personal preferences as if one could start over and build a nation as some sort of "thought/mental exercise" or perhaps even to buy an island and try to start over, - in the sense of creating something original. 🤪

A Brit, who lived in Finland over 20 years, was asked if he would change some things in Finland. His answer was: people, location and climate. Now the first one due to low birthrate and large immigration shall happen in near future. After some decades the people here will be mainly African an Middle East people. Sadly we cannot change the location, but the climatechange will make the weather suitable for nicer people.

The off spring being healthier due to parents being of different backgrounds is not always true. We have a situation in Sweden now where children from interracial couples cant get any bone marrow transplant because there's hardly any mixed people that are donating. The genetic cocktail of the child makes them unable to recieve a transplant from either parent. Only match for them is from people who are also mixed.

A nice little fallacy you've got there. While it's true, that variety is common in nature and overall something positive. The way you would practice it with relationships and offspring would only lead to a new uniformity. In nature variety is the result of differentiation and isolation (be it spatial or in behaviour). In human populations we see how this also manifests itself as different peoples, cultures and languages. Would we continue to follow this natural path we may end up with different humans species one day. If we crossbreed on the other hand, we would only get more uniform as a species and stagnate.
