@@derekgraziano9499, it depends, what criteria one is using. Stubb made a great spech, but so did also the Brittish secretary of state. Those two speeches were totally different. But we have to remember, that Finland is a small country measured on population, 12 times smaller than UK. So Stubb would not have been wise, if he would have had a similar aggressive tone in his speech as the Briton had. The starting points were different and the modus vivendi of both speeches was different.

Great orator, brilliant mind. Wish more leaders had his capacity to think logically and communicate ideas clearly. It was a pleasure listing to his series of lectures just before he became President. He had comprehensive insights into the Russian-Ukraine conflict and the tensions/reasons behind the conflict. The UN really would benefit greatly having a person of his stature at its head.

@thusspokezarathustra 🇫🇮 🙏 Thank you for your kind words about our new president, Alexander Stubb. He represents today's Finland just as our previous prime minister Sanna Marin and her government of 12 women and 7 men did during the difficult time of the covid pandemic. Alex, as we call him informally, is only the second president of Finland whose mother tongue is Swedish. The first one was Carl Gustav Mannerheim, Marshall of Finland, and a polyglot like Alexander Stubb. Alex is perfectly bilingual in Finnish and Swedish, as many of us Finland-Swedes are. Our mother tongue Swedish allows us to learn English, German, and other Germanic languages fairly easily and makes Norwegian and Danish easier to speak or understand, as well. We're often fluent in at least one additional language which tends to be French, Spanish or Italian. The CV of President Stubb is impressive and explains why he comes off as being very knowledgeable in his chosen field. He has matured quite a lot during these last 20 years, so let's hope that he'll be able to make a difference or at least be able to motivate a change for the better in international politics within the UN and elsewhere.

This president put it pure, and simple. The UN needs to be reformed. And the points he mentioned, to do so, are imperative, notably the removal of the veto, enjoyed by the few, who have, repeatedly, and blatantly, used it abusively. The representation of all continents on the security council, and the suspension of voting rights to members in violation of UN charter, are also imperative. But how can these reforms be achieved? What executive exists to make this reform, of the UN, take place?
@pinchebruha4052 ай бұрын
So the Un Charter to allow mass migration at the expense of citizens is ok? What about states continents that violate humans rights even being allowed to have a voice; China?
@Palteen872 ай бұрын
None. If the UN is outdated then something new will be created when the right time comes. But for the time being it’s better to have a bad UN than nothing or than trying to reform anything. Any reformations will just end the UN whilst nothing else is in place. What Stubb has suggested is very dangerous to the world. Small nations should stay back
@Gittas-tube2 ай бұрын
@davidmallia628 Good question. The General Assembly, perhaps? Then work groups. The speech contained some good ideas, but I wonder if the world is ready. A common will must be present to choose to bring the UN back to its roots and ideals. Time is running out, and there are just two choices, just as president Alexander Stubb said. The pull towards a fragmented world of greed and egotism is strong and to see the benefit for all, not to mention altruism, escapes most of us. So, even if Stubb's proposals seem overly optimistic - as he himself mentioned - we need to hear them spoken out loud, if for no other reason than at least to show us that there are more than one 'choice'.
