Finland has managed to hold onto its title of world's happiest country for the fourth year in a row - even during a pandemic. The country of 5.5 million people managed the coronavirus far better than the rest of Europe. Lara Aknin from Simon Fraser University discusses factors that make a country happy to live in.

Finns are content and satisfied, not happy in the sense people usually understand it.

I dislike oversimplifying to to "Happiest country". It's not happiness, go ask pretty much any Finn and they'd laugh at the term. Were you to ask them about if they feel contentment, like their country and community is supporting them, whether there are opportunities in their life to self actualize and advance and learn and grow, whether the legal system treats people equally or not and so on, you might get much more emphatic Yes. And that is what makes us happiest. Not that we're deliriously joyful, but because there's real freedom here, not just the word but the actual meaning behind it. Possibilities for individuals that are encouraged by the society around them, not just an individual left to fend for themselves, chastised if they fail and elevated to godhood if they happen to be the 1% who actually make it...

Hahahaha biggest BS. If it was true we would smile more and not have the highest suicide rates in the world like we have in scandinavia. I'm Swedish so I speak from everyday experience.

@@Turmootti See evidence that Finnish people are not so happy. 😂 Last time I saw a Finnish person smile was when Nokia 8810 was released. 😂😂😂

Happy doesnt mean smiling till your ear tips and faking it to the camera, happy means freedom as well and honesty and even melancholy can be happy

some people are smiling because they want that people do not beat them to death, so smiling does not indicate only happiness
