Russia has been a threat to Eastern Europe long before NATO ever existed. NATO was the best thing Europe ever did. Russia won’t even dare to touch one of its members now thats what I call peace and safety. Soon Moldova and Ukraine will be in the alliance as well by their own choice which only belongs to them and then alone. Democracy wins once again.

40 years ago, when I was living in West Germany, my friends and I were highly skeptical of NATO, mostly because Reagan made such a show of bringing in those Pershing missiles. It was the nuclear brinkmanship we objected to. Now the script has completely flipped. Not only has Putin launched an illegal 20th century-style war of aggression (the reason NATO was created in the first place), but his undisciplined army has committed thousands of war crimes and the wannabe Stalin is now threatening nuclear annihilation with increasing frequency and desperation. I grew up in the 1960s fearing the Bomb and really thought that the Cold War was finally over when the Soviet Union collapsed. Why would anyone want to bring back those terrible days?

@@drewsteps What has Finland prevented there? In 1940, after the Defensive breakthrough, the Finns surrendered, went to a peace treaty, fulfilled Stalin's initial demands, on the worst terms. In 1944, the Finns betrayed their ally Hitler. If you look at what forces the Red Army had from 1944-1945, what large-scale military operations the Red army carried out, you have to realize that the capture of Finland is a political issue. You just can't realize the Finns in 1940 and in 1945 could not oppose Stalin.
