As someone that was born in 1982, I can attest that growing up in the 90s was everything this song imagines and more. The generation that grew into the internet but had a good portion of our lives without it.

I hate most of everything nowadays. '93-early'97 is what it was all about for me. Although, they were the worst years of my life, they were the only few that even mattered. Now, I am just hoping that the infections spreads quicker, and while everyone else is packing lunches or getting botox, or head down phone first-ing, I can simply slide from out my skinsack, and never have to worry about what I might think of Billy Crystal's son/daughter ever again. My honest opinion of this song is that the lyrics don't particularly make sense or tell a coherent story, the use of jarringly obvious autotone (or is it vocoding? idk) is off-putting, and the production is average. If this is representative of his music, I can see why he's not getting as much attention as you would like.

Love it Finneas, you captured it well ♥️ The 90’s were my teenage years, I wish I could go back in time. I hate seeing the world, my preteen son, is experiencing and living in. The difference to the freedom I experienced as a child/teenager, are like 2 different worlds. This song captures it well, feeling nostalgic now.

Yesss!! I love hearing Finneas' music just as he is. Obviously, Billie is incredible, but you can tell so much how her influence really does affect the music. And I think that's brilliant. It makes more of a point of showing that they work TOGETHER. And that Finneas is a completely different (and amazing) artist in his own right. Side bar: I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this since finding it. It's a fucking TUNE and only has 1.5m listens in spotify. wtf if up with people?

It is kinda weird to think of my own youth as what it really is, historically. Born in '78, my youth was mid 90s to start 2000s. And at the time we didn't really grasp how enormously groundbreaking everything was. The internet was creeping up on us, but was still mainly a source of information, and not the social foundation it later became. I don't romanticize those times, though. It had its own problems. But when I think of my youth as being part of probably the biggest and fastest shift in how the world functions, it really is strange to have memories from both before and after this transition. Especially because it really is hard, even for me, to imagine having being cut off from information and relations as soon as I left my home. When I stood on a street alone, I really was alone. And when I got lost, I really was lost. If I got out of touch with my friends while we were out, I just didn't find them again, and had to accept that... But. People treated each other horribly. Lots of bullying, lots of wars (Many more world conflicts than today). Racism was a LOT worse. The world IS better on almost any parameter you chose measure on. And while the last 10 years has seen a new kind of intolerance grow, we do treat each other a lot better now, and accept our minorities more gracefully. As a teacher of people in their twenties, I see so many people dressed and presenting themselves in daring and creative ways that would have gotten them immediately destroyed had it been the 90s. I wish for the future to end the polarization of groups, and for social platforms to take more responsibility in getting their algorithms functioning. They divide us. And I hope everybody stops being so damn afraid about the future. I hope we figure out why our young ones are so damn sad and broken. It breaks my hard to see how many people have lost sight of their own role to play. And I hope the "moral elite" will find more productive, less divisive, methods to change the world. Don't look back at the 90s for answers, look to the future. We were screwed up in different but just as intolerable ways. And the internet CAN be the best thing that ever brought the world closer together, if we stop walling ourselves into our little echo chambers.

I think some of my best times were also some of the hardest times between 1996 and 2000. I was in my 20s, moved into my own house with a string of roommates. Lived in a small town and saw my friends regularly. Then they started moving away, my family split up and moved leaving me behind until I could catch up 3 years later. Everyone's moved on now, we're in our 40s, we hardly ever see eachother, if we're lucky we share a few memes on Facebook. It's so lonely now.

LYRICS⭐ Sometimes I think about the 90s I know that everyone romanticized it But you could sign me up For a world without the internet Hate how easy they can find me Just by looking up my mom's address I think about the 90s When I was not a problem yet Chorus All the time I should've been so happy I was here Wasting it on worryin, just made it disappear Now my head feels so heavy I'm left holding up the levee Feels so foreign, I'm already home o o o o Verse II I think about the 90s When the future was a testament To something beautiful and shiny, now We're only countin' down the time that's left With everything behind me I wonder how much of it I'll forget I think about the 90s When I think about what I regret Chorus All the time I should've been so happy I was here Wasting it on worryin, just made it disappear Now my head feels so heavy I'm left holding up the levee Feels so foreign, I'm already home o o o o When your heart starts to harden Lay your guard down in your garden Same backyard, but we are not home woah o o o Bridge Sometimes I think about the Sometimes I think about the O o o o o Chorus All the time I should've been so happy I was here Wasting it on worryin, just made it disappear Now my head feels so heavy I'm left holding up the levee Feels so foreign, I'm already home o o o o When your heart starts to harden Lay your guard down in your garden Same backyard, but we are not home woah o o o

"...you could sign me up for a word without the internet." I share this sentiment. Some days I do actually miss that time when we all weren't so hyper-connected to everything and everyone. For me, I do remember living without the internet, or a computer. My family didn't get our first computer till 1995, and I do sometimes reminisce on the days when Hotmail, AOL Instant Messenger and Diaryland were what my friends and I would, I guess, use as our "social media" at the time. I remember when the internet was actually exciting and fun to explore. Now I just want to shut it all off much of the time. -- D.
