Use the stock parts and do a fun build. Kinda like your wife's El Camino. Not stock, and not outwardly crazy. Just a cool looking driver with big power.

I'm with you. He needs to build something reliable for a change. There are plenty of bolt on aftermarket suspension components for C2 Vettes that will greatly enhance the ride and handling without going to an aftermarket chassis. The stock frame will always be to spindly for a crazy engine combo, but they can easily be beefed up to handle anything a naturally aspirated SBC will throw at it.

My 15 year-old son and I think anyone fortunate enough to own a 63 split window should retain the stock appearance with the original frame and body, while achieving a modern driving experience through suspension, engine and trans upgrades. That car retains exceptional value and a level of respect from a much wider audience than the pro touring approach. When you walk into the garage 20 years from now, you won't regret the choice you made, but the pro touring car even money says you may no longer own by then.

Most do that because that is what their wallet and mechanical skills allow. As a C2 owner I can tell you that if you can swing a nice chassis for something you want to drive, do it. 9 out of 10 times people say keep it stock etc. they have no experience with the stock C2 chassis. Even with bolt-ons it pretty bad. The C2 chassis is not something GN is remembered for.

Big block and lightly pro touring. Something that one day Mike’s kids can drive to school. My high school girlfriend’s parents had a 71 454 car we got to drive to school and just felt like the coolest kids in school. In the late 2000s, a loud burbling big block was way out of place in amongst the modern econoboxes and it was awesome. They even let us drive it to prom. Setting of limo car alarms was hilarious.

If I had the chose I for sure would put it back as close to stock as possible. The value of the 63 Split window cars is insane. Now you have the frame and the original rear end. This is a build date code on the rear end housing on the bottom I believe that would help in knowing it was built near the year of 63.

That’s a tough one because It’s a real ‘63 split window and they are soooo valuable. So the first question you need to ask yourself is do you plan on keeping this long term. If so do what excites you. If you build it into a restomod are you actually going to drive it much? If the answers no then I would say do something radical, something fun that is going to put a smile on your face every time you look at it like put the 711 in it, that be sick. If you plan on sending down the road eventually then obviously it behoove you to do what ever gets the best return on investment.

Maybe I missed a video or something but I thought the owner didn't know where the original frame was? Hmmm... Nice score no doubt, but now decisions decisions, which way to go with her. Hmmm. Is it an original high horse rare car or something special? The fact it's a 63 split window makes it special enough on its own to go back to original, but that suggestion Joe has is cool too. Ah the hardest part of a build, deciding which direction to go with it. You already have tons of different style builds from fun wacky beaters to awesome go fast bad asses. I personally would do a stock frame "resto mod" which seems to be the modern term for a light pro touring build. Something you can drive everywhere, will "decent" horsepower, and a wheel/tire combo that you don't have to worry about hitting a pothole with. I mean, you do have the Elco, but that's the Wifey's Whip ;) . I went the Resto mod route with my 70' Chevelle and it's a great driver. I recently picked up a 69' Torino Fastback bare roller with the intentions of building a "not TOO fast" Drag and Drive car, but when I started to dig into it, I'm finding its even more rust/rot free then I though so I'm not sure how I'm going to proceed with it.

Hi Mike. I have a different suggestion, back in the mid 1960s there were privater groups who raced these at the 24 Hours of LeMans and other road races. History has given a lot of attention to F vs F, but not much to the Corvettes. My idea is to build a tribute car to these early racers and cars, and help keep these memories alive. Also, if you look up pictures of these you will see that they were really cool looking cars, which checks your first box. Whatever you decide just remember to keep the fun in it. Merry Christmas. Tom

Not every car has to be a fire breathing dragon. Keep the frame a rearend. Most of the interior. So when you get in it. You get the sense of driving a real classic corvette. Hop up the suspension to kame it handle. A nice mid range engine even 600-750hp will make it scoot really well. It can be a FAST daily driver that’ll always be a head turner. I would say out of allyour car & projects, include the Mrs on this one. Let her pick out interior and colors and what she would like to have to drive it. It’s a family heirloom now. Not just another project or car. It’s a keeper like your wife. 👍👍👍

I’d use the stock chassis also it would be awesome to see a thrash video with buddies building this thing! Such a cool car.

Keep the stock frame, aftermarket suspension and brake upgrades, fat rubber, at least a 5 speed stick, N/A LS 427, ala Mast like the one in the Crusher, AC, Boom Booms tunes, road trip the crap outta the dang thing. Power Tour, Crusing the Coast, etc. You could still do Drag Week and run in the 10's and have a great week not having to wrench on the ride the whole time. And oh yeah, beautiful paint.

Pro tour , Those cars are rare supper hard to find. You can build a sbc 400-500 hp and have all the fun you want, maybe some point pass it on to one of your boys!😁

The stock frame will fit 18x10 in the rear, with detroit speed rear end and suspension. Front can fit 18x8 fine, 18x9 easily. And you can bolt/weld all new modern c-arms and coilovers. Big brakes by wilwood and your set for pro touring. Good luck!
