Probably hard to get, even in the USA. But i'd love to see a Review of a Finnish Suomi KP/-31 made by Tikkakoski, which was the best Maschinenpistole according to my now 100 year old (and amazingly still alive) paternal Grandfather. He served side by side with Finnish Soldiers in Karelia, and well on the Finnish Eastern Front when he was with the 6. Waffen-SS Div. "Nord", and he told me many times that this was not only his but also the prefered MP among most Germans on the "Eismeerfront" up in Finland. I know that a bit over 5000 of those original Finnish Ones were sold to Switzerland in the 1940s and i hope many of them are now in Collections there, or maybe some even made it to the USA. I served a few Years with the Gebirgsjäger (231. Battalion Bad Reichenhall) and while i was lucky to try out many great originals from the Wars from many Countries, this one seems impossible to find. So would love it if you Guys can get your Hands on one sooner or later so i can find out from trusty Folks like you Guys if the Hype of my Grandfather and his former Comrades is accurate. Also Comments are welcome if anyone reading this has Experience with the Model i'm talking about Prost and Cheers from the Berchtesgadener Land in the cold Bavarian Alps

Hei. Kyllä suomikonepistooli -31 Tikkakoski on yhä legenda Suomessa.

Suomi M/31 originally had a 20 round stick magazine and a 40 round drum magazine. The latter was not liked, it was hard to reload because you had to balance the cartridges nose down and if they tipped, you had to try to get them back up and possibly had to start all over again. The later 70rd (not 72) drum magazine was liked for firepower though these were harder to carry around. 50rd "coffin" magazines also existed as Swedish military had designed these for their Suomi SMGs and these were used in Finnish military during the wars. They had the advantage of being easier to carry but unfortunately proved to be unreliable. The 36rd magazines your M/44 uses on the other hand are likely Swedish K magazines. After the war many of the M/44s were modified to accept the Swedish K magazines instead of the Suomi magazines.

Unrelated topic but I have a hypothetical question. What would be more lethal in your opinion: 1. A .17 caliber 20 grain tungsten solid at 4500 fps 2. A .50 caliber 500 grain hp at 800 fps I ask because I've always wondered if a tiny blazingly fast bullet that does not simply disintegrate do more damage than a monstrous slow bullet. Thoughts?
@itsahumanperson6174 Жыл бұрын
Not Iraqveteran, I'm just an armchair gun-nerd so do take this with a pinch of salt, but... What you need to consider is that example 1 will just go almost clean through. Sure, it will cause notable damage, but it won't cause too much damage. With the second example, there's larger potential for the bullet to yaw/tumble inside the body, thus causing more damage and thereby being more lethal and or fatal. This is also one of the reasons that, in spite of the .45 ACP being a rather slow moving bullet, it's known for having high stopping power. It's a big bullet, and it moves slowly. So to answer your question, the second example would likely do significantly more damage.

@@M0n01it Oh, right.The PPSh is just largely based on it. So, when Eric says the Fins were running into a lot PPSh's in the Winter war he actually meant PPS-42/43's? Which makes no sense because neither gun was in service at that time. Looks more like later on the Finns took queues from the Russians when they simplified their standard smg with the intro of the PPS-42.
