To sum up my finnish spitz experience: They like to bark, they like to play, they like to argue, and they like to cuddle. A perfect companion she was, Bonnie i miss you!

I adopted a Finnish Spitz that was found at a gas station - I had NO idea what I was in for. For a whole year I never slept through the night: is your curtain moving in the wind? Bark. A car passes by? Bark. Does your door creak? Bark. I felt so secure with her watchfulness I'd fall asleep with the door unlocked at night. She's a great dog who likes her cuddles and who sheds all year round in warm weather.

I have two Finnish Spitz and they are just the most delightful dogs I've ever had. So much sass and so much personality but also so sweet. Love them dearly.

Suomenpystykorva is literally their Finnish name, not a nickname though. Btw love how you pronounced it 😂 and they literally bark at everything, they would probably do better at countryside than in cities. At least your neighbours will think so.

@@candyplays4fun942 I have a mix of norwegian elkhund and finnish hound, and he only barks when he plays with his friends, despite both being very bark-prone breeds 😂 Yeah, there are always some individuals that are different, but the point is that no one should get a finnish spitz and expect it to be a quiet breed 😉

@@candyplays4fun942 Are you sure it is the right breed 😁 . One day with out barking and I would take mine to the vet. It is like kids. If it is too quiet, something is wrong.

My grandmother had a few Finnish Spitz’s. All very friendly and active, but I would never get one for myself because of the incessant barking 😅 My granny’s dog were hunting dogs, and that’s how the breed is mostly perceived as in Finland. I know only person who has this breed as a pet in a residencial area, the rest live at the countryside and are used for hunting.

Our family had a Finnish spitz who was named "Rölli". The Finns in the comments will know who Rölli is.... Sadly passed away in peace at the age of 16.

To those who dont know, Rölli was a old TV character in Finland. Literal translation would be troll, but the guy in TV was more like a human troll. great name for a furry dog.

We’ve had Finnish Spitzes in our extended family, and they’ve all been hunting dogs. I really like them, but wouldn’t get one myself because of the barking and because they are so very active, not a very good suburban family dog in that sense. Very cute though.

Yes totally correct, my finnish spitz hates when we have walk into town but when she knows we are leaving her personality changes and she becomes proud and pouncing around having fun, but will say she is so so loving and gentle. Brilliant breed.

We had a very energetic Finnish Spitz who moved to Canada with us for a year. He was amazing in finding squirrels. He was out hunting with my brothers up in the mountains. They were amazed how he saw the squirrels from the pickup (as they were driving )and the barking started. It took my brothers awhile to spot the squirrels themselves. He loved squirrels. And he definitely didn't like food. He was hard to train because he wouldn't care if I had a roast beef in front of him...he wouldn't care. Stubborn.

@@ammaheinon This finnish spitz (mixed) I have known wasn't fond of "gourmet" either. His favourite delicacy was potato peels. Seriously. But he got to hunt his own meals in forests. Small rodents.

The Finnish Spitz is called: Dog of one owner. They usually take the one they consider their main master and obey. Because of that feature, they are very poorly suited to be re-placed elsewhere. You can train a dog not to bark like I did to mine. Everyone wondered if I really have a Finnish Spitz because there is never a sound of barking when it is alone at home.

Finnish nick name "Piski" which nowadays is somewhat used to all this type of dogs is actually originally the official original Finnish name for thr breed... There is actually book written about that fact... Well the book is mostly historic and about how old folks back then decide the pup they wanted...

When I was a kid my parents rent a summer cabin in a countryside of Finland for a couple of years. The cabin resided near the house where the landlords lived. They had this amazing dog which was mixed but mainly a finnish spitz (maybe 3/4 I think) he just had a bit shorter legs and was a bit more fluffy and didn't bark much. He was never leached since it was a countryside with very little traffic (in 80's) never run away and was friendly or mostly ignored people. But this dog made me his best friend! Every time we went to our summer cabin I guess he recognised our car's voice and he was there first greeting me. He followed me everywhere. He didn't do that with my parents or my older brother or his "owners". I was only a 9-12 years old girl. He loved hunting moles, mices and little rodents and went off sometimes when we were roaming in forests together but whenever I called his name he got right back for his best buddy me 😍 I loved that dog so much. I can still remember his scent and smile and his devotion for me 40 years after 🥲 Jami you were my best buddy too.

My cousins have had various Finnish Spitzes for at least 3-4 decades, and my experience with those dogs is that they make a certain friendly bark when they see someone that they are familiar with --- like a "woof! wo-woooow...! 🎶" --- and they are also extremely loyal to their owner, and can sometimes be a bit unpredictable.
