Couldn't agree more! For me, another reason (for any language ofc) is actually - having fun! At the moment I am studying Finnish for my boyfriend and cause we will soon live together in Finland, but I used to learn and have fun with the languages for no reason really. Talking random Japanese learned from animes to my dog for example. Sometimes, knowing a certain language is like a fun superpower :)

One of your example is exactly my situation now. I am working at the English Department of a unit. My colleagues use English during meetings and performing duties, but they quickly turn to Finnish for causal talks. I wish one day I could really understand what they are chatting!

Actually, I was travelling in Scandinavia in the early 2000s and I think I was in Oslo and I was asking some local Norwegians about pronunciation of umlauts and stuff, and the subject came up about Finnish. And they were like: "they understand us but no one understands them". This surprised me because the rest of the world thinks that all Scandinavians are automatically very good at languages in general. And so the next time I'm ever in, say, Sweden or somewhere like that, and the subject comes up about Finnish, I'll be able to say *something* in Finnish (just to see their reaction).🇫🇮

I decided to be a bit more serious in learning Finnish recently. I always knew my ancestors came from Finland, but after diving deeper into the history, I feel it is necessary for me to learn in.

I had to think hard about why I want to learn it. Because simply saying that it is a beautiful language is so vague and might not be enough as a long-term motivation. And well, what can I say? I love a lot of music from Finland and even more, when the songs are in Finnish language. So I'd like to be able to understand them and sing along. :)

All reasons are good. But I don't agree with the economic reasons. Unless you have a decent background such as Health or IT professions, chances of getting a job in Finland as a foreigner is next to none. Because regardless of the Finnish skills, majority of Finnish employers are reluctant to hire foreigners, even if they face labor shortage. This is especially true for those coming from a non-EU countries.

Miksi youtube on kielestä niin mukavaa ja tekijä on tehnyt suuren työn puhuakseen hitaasti mutta kaikki kommentit ovat englanniksi Olen Norse English, Englanti pakotettiin meihin kun normanit hyökkäsivät tanskannorjaan Yorkin kuningaskuntaan ja suomalaisillakin on Pakko ruotsia vielä meillä on trnslate ja kommentit pitäisi olla suomeksi jos tulet tähän mukavaan helppoon videoon kiltti puhu hitaasti yritä suomeksi Osaan myös Norjan ruotsia ja opin suomea karjalan ja Livvi enkä halua jättää heitä pois monet karjalaiset osaavat puhua suomea, joten se on poissa kunnioituksesta Luulen, että monet englanninkieliset youtube-kommentit eivät joko ole kiinnostuneita ja kaikki puhuvat tai kirjoittavat tai epätoivoisesti ajaakseen englantia meille Pakon tyyliin tai laiskalle tai jotain, kun yritin 2 vuotta ruotsia 2 47 365 ja menin Ruotsiin, he jättivät minut huomiotta ja käytä minua englanninkielisenä keskusteluseinänä Tein oman osani, mutta kun menin Sunnen 1700 karjalaiseen metsänhoitajaan, he puhuivat karjalan kieltä ja ruotsia ja ymmärsivät minua Ithen aloitti Suomen ruotsista suomeksi ja sitten tavoitteeni oppia suomea karjalaksi, koska he ovat kuin 2 rakastajaa ja romanttisia kielet eivät ranskaa normanin takia Why is youtube so nice about the language and the creator has done a great job to speak slowly but all the comments are in English I am Norse English, English was forced on us when the Normans attacked the Dano-Norwegian Kingdom of York and the Finns are also forced to speak Swedish we still have trnslate and the comments should be in Finnish if you come to this nice for an easy video please speak slowly try Finnish I also know Norwegian Swedish and I'm learning Finnish Karelia and Livvi and I don't want to leave them out many Karelians can speak Finnish so it's out of respect I think a lot of youtube comments in English are either not interested and everyone is talking or writing or desperate to drive English to us Pako style or lazy or something when I tried for 2 years swedish 2 47 365 and went to sweden they ignored me and use me as an english speaking wall I did my part but when I went to Sunne 1700 Karelian forester they spoke Karelian and swedish and understood me Ithen started from Finland Swedish to Finnish and then my goal to learn Finnish to Karelian because they are like 2 lovers and romantic languages not French because of Norman
