I personally think Scott Pilgrim is one of the best jerk protagonists. He's unarguably a garbage person (really everyone but possibly Knives is), but he's still likable and grows by the end of the movie
@Lordgrayson2 жыл бұрын
Knives dates young Neil to try make Scott jealous(and because in the comics he looks like Scott) and then tries to murder Ramona because she dated Scott. Scotts band are good people tho, they just also are struggling artists who are trying to make a living, the worst thing you can say they did was take the job Gideon offered them. As for Scott himself, you would need to argue to say he is a completely garbage person, the worst he does is "cheat" on knives because he cant muster the courage to dump her until after he is already in a relationship with Ramona, But that's not entirely his fault since the reason he is so in love with Ramona is because she is using his head as a highway to deliver packages which actually fucks with his mind and makes him fall for her(she was literally running through his mind all day). TL;DR Knives isn't good, Scott being bad isn't his fault, and there are plenty of good characters in the movie(in the comics its a little more complicated)

@amitaikatz59292 жыл бұрын
There is a difference between that character and the ones featured in the video. While he is rich, he's not famous or a lonely man without a family(since he does have a dad). And when compared to McQueen or Batman, the only character who most of the time changed him was The Lovable Oaf Mogens(RIP Norm McDonald). Whereas The Mentor/Father Figure and Love Interest get to be the ones changed by him. In fact, if it wasn't for his father(and Mogens) sending him to a village full of barbaric tyrants, he wouldn't have thought of an idea to change a whole nation and himself. All thanks to a letter sent from a kid trapped in his own house and a Little Sami Girl named Margu(one of the most adorable animated kid characters in film history). So yeah he's a jerk, but not at the same level as the guys in the video.

Klaus is the main Christmas story that stood out to me. It isn't "Oh Christmas is in danger and the world would be so much worse without it". It actually shows why Christmas is important. Also if I recall correctly the MC was originally a chimney sweeper but then they realised he would have nothing to lose. Also the fact by becoming less of a jerk he indirectly causes the people around him to less of a jerk is amazing. In short I love Klaus. Also the animation is revolutionary.

What I LOVE about Cars is how Lightning decides to do a lot of good deeds for each one of Radiator Springs' resident before living: he gets new tires from Luigi and Guido, gets stickers from Lizzie, a new paint from Ramone, a boost drink from Fillmore... Basically, it's all stuff that will be sure to bring awareness about the town for the audience at the big race, so it will get costumers again. And after all of that, he made sure to repair the town's neon lights. Lightning did all of this out of gratitude for all the things everyone did for him. And the best part, the moment he gets found by all the journalists, it's not framed as a "Lightning, you're the one who called them, you were just thinking about the race all this time, how could you?", you know, the liar reveal. No, Sally and Lightning share a sad goodbye, both sad that it all had to end so soon, Sally even thanking him for everything he did: Lightning thinks it wasn't a real deal, not a big problem, but for Sally and the rest of the town, it really meant a lot. Again, like you said, the best gestures are the ones that mean the most to people. And not long after, it was revealed that it was Doc that called the journalists, so that Lightning had to go earlier than intended. This, at least to me, just highlights just how genuine and altruistic the race car has become after coming to Radiator Springs. Ok, I'm sorry, I know everyone hates on Cars, but honestly, there's something really genuine about the message it delivers, and I just can't ignore it. **

What's even better is that Radiator Springs,a town that was never seen in public for years,were the ones to teach McQueen a very valuable lesson. Some strangers really can sometimes change someone's heart... And what's better is that he did something very good for them in return. Mater got a ride on a helicopter just like McQueen promised,a Ferrari,which Luigi wanted,that can speak spanish,which Guido wanted. And McQueen even had the heart to rebuild the building on the top of the mountains that Sally showed him,and putting Radiator Springs on the map. So not only McQueen was lucky to have them,but the citizens of Radiator Springs are proud that McQueen came to their lives. It's good karma coming back at them for the good things they did.

Just a detail, but you missed one important moment in Kuzko's redemption arc: the final sacrifice. In the awesome climax you mention, he has a choice to make between saving Pacha's life and becoming a powerful emperor again. He chose to save Pacha's life and sacrificed the potion. Of course, he ends up having both, but he doesn't KNOW at that point, as far as he knows, he could stay a lama all his life. THAT moment is really important, as it shows Kuzko's transformation is not shallow, he is not just changing because he wants to look good in his friend's eyes, he really became a person with empathy for others. It might be the most important moment in Kuzo's journey. That said I understand you don't have time to talk about everything, and missing one moment isn't bad when the rest of the video is so good and well done. I was sorta thinking the same thing. You have "villains" turned heroes, jerks turned nice. How about underdogs turned champions? Losers turned winners, if you will. The underdog protagonists are the most unlikely, unassuming, underappreciated and overlooked characters in fiction yet at the same time, you want to root for them because just like sympathetic villains, they're given the cold shoulder by society, mainly because they're seen as losers in their respective roles and you want to see them become the heroes they're destined to be. Marty McFly, Peter Parker, Po and Hiccup are prime examples of that trope.

But after his events in radiator springs, similar scene takes place where he’s trying to get focused for the race and says “Speed. I. Am. And at the end of the race when he has the opportunity to win the race and become the first rookie to win the piston cup, he stops to help The King. The old McQueen would’ve bat an eye, but this McQueen proves he’s changed for the better and has made a difference in the toxic world of racing. Gosh dang it, what a masterpiece

Emperor's New Groove has Kuzco looking for humanity in more ways than one.
@thomasecker94052 жыл бұрын
I wholeheartedly agree. Cars simple did this remarkably well. And let's not forget that many noteworthy people from the racing community lended a hand for accuracy's sake, including Nascar racing legend Richard "The King" Petty and his own wife, actress Lynda Petty, before she passed on.
@candicesmith61262 жыл бұрын
My favorite one is actually Jesper from Klaus. It’s like a Christmas version of “Emperor’s New Groove.” Not only is it fascinating to see him transform, but it also shows a difference in why he does what he does. And even his selfish actions have an interesting impact which helps with the idea of the movie...

I loved cars growing up, especially because of all the scenery we're going by in the movie, crossing to california, when radiator springs is lit up in neon, when McQueen and Sally are taking a drive, and idk why but when we're seeing McQueen turn on his colorful led lights inside his trailer. all of it just swept me off my feet. But when I was about 11 I finally paid attention to the plot more and started to appreciate the characters more. I can't say I have a favorite car I would put on a throne, but I liked Doc Hudson the most, I just really liked seeing an aged racer make a comeback to a race, especially when I was paying attention. All of the plot for me makes seeing the scenery more exciting and more satisfying in a way. But I really love that this movies Implores the message which is to slow down and enjoy life, even the little things, which to me I think radiator springs resembles the little things🙂. I loved the emotion and music put into the backstory of radiator springs, and the way McQueen and Sally's relationship became more casual in a way. McQueen started off as a famous racecar, and Sally was rich as well. Getting away from all the money and fame just feels like something that some people need to do to understand that there's more to life than that. Money isn't going anywhere but your life will, just settle down, make some friends, do something nice for your town, community, city, wherever you live. This movie was just a nice journey, especially for Pixar. Wow that was a lot to write, sorry about that🤣

It's really nice hearing positive feedback for the Cars franchise. I get that the second movie isn't perfect and can be one of the most hated movies out there, but hearing all of these points really can change people's perspective on things when you dig a little deeper. And even then, some of the actions in the second and third movies can make sense too. Lightning isn't perfect and it's understandable that he can still get upset at times. He even said that he didn't mean for Mater to leave. He still cares about their friendship and just feels bad for letting his anger get the best of him. Mater also want through his own journey to realize is a bit harder for me to try and explain as I feel that someone may need to dig into it as I'm trying to think of how to explain his growth as a character but I just can't find the proper words to describe it. Now for Cars 3, I really found the story interesting and really made me appreciate Doc for the first time as I was just a kid when I watched Cars back then but now that I'm all grown up, I can understand the kind of person he is and appreciate his inspiration he has given. As for Lightning, I see this story as like the 5 stages of grief where he goes through many phases throughout the field like persistence, sadness, anger, and even acceptance. The concept of Lightning be able to say when he's done but also continuing a legacy for future racers was really touching. Especially when you see the two photos of both Lightning and Doc together and one with Lightning and Cruiz together where Doc trained Lightning to become a better person and a better racer to now having Lightning is now doing the same for Cruiz. Also, that Yellow Light moment actually surprised me as I never thought about it and it really makes sense with the points you brought up. It may be a stretch, but it could possibly be connected.

The Cars movie is an underrated gem. I think most of the hatred come from Cars 2 which was ok, but no where near the tone and writing quality of the original and Cars 3. The franchise also suffered from the Frozen effect as Disney- Pixar milk the IP for all it was worth.

Here's the thing. While some people consider Cars to be a bad movie they at least can't consider it soul less, because it isn't. It may be confusing as to why the characters are Cars in the first place. But at least it's consistent. Plus I really think those who have a passion for Racing or just Cars in general can enjoy the movie. Love your vids on Pixar, please do more!

I'm low-key kinda upset he's not talking about Darkwing Duck, but hey, you can't have everything. And he's from a cartoon character from the 90's, so he probably won't fit, but he's hilarious, a first egomaniac superhero and, despite wanting fame and fortune, he still loves and cares about the city, his sidekick and, of course, his daughter.

I'm so glad The Emperor's New Groove is getting the recognition it deserves. Despite it's major set backs from Disney constantly changing what it wanted the movie to be, the movie it ended up being is just as fun and as memorable as I imagine Kingdom of the Sun would have been. We can only think of what was in store for this film from its original premise being Yzma wanting to kill Kuzco and throw the society into darkness for no other reason than to uplift the legacy of her family's magic. I think that was the only thing I missed from this review, Yzma raised Kuzco and it must be at least partially her fault he is the way he is, and it's no surprise when you see the way she is in the film. But once Kuzco spent time with a family that nurtured their children to be empathetic to all life, he made the change. I totally agree Cars is the winner here only because they establish McQueen's yearning to form connections with people. He prioritizes his image within the racing scene and instead of investing his time and energy to genuine connections, he spends his days with the wrong crowds that will cast him off as junk at the end of the day anyways. Excellent video!

A lot more people like the Cars movies (or, at least, two of them) than you'd think. While I admit that they aren't perfect, they have a steady fanbase (even with adult members). You have to admit that the idea of a world full of cars is interesting, and there are a ridiculous amount of fanfics dedicated to the franchise.
@jeffreyfiegen15382 жыл бұрын
I think the main reason that people (admittedly myself including) turned away from Cars has to do with both internet personalities trashing it, and Cars 2 kinda poisoned its reputation until Cars 3 came out (which I should probably watch).
