i remember one morning, back when the official album had not been released, I was getting ready for work, I listened to this song for the 3rd time and I remember the feeling it gave me, it was a narrative existing in Fiona's fantasy music world, inviting somewhat painful, rewarding. I felt so beautiful that day.

The demo version has stayed forever in my mind and always feel the album version too manufactured. The voices in the back and the more dry way of telling the story feels like a push to make it fit with the rest within the album. Still, one of my favorites of Fiona 💕

I downloaded this version a very long time ago on Ares (like in 2005) 😂 and now in 2021 I listened to it on Spotify and said “Naaah, hold on, why does it sound so different!?? This is not how I remember it!!” And I just found out I’ve been listening to the unreleased version all these years 😞 (Which I think it’s superior)

I remember when this song was first released. I was one of the 1st to hear it. At the time, I thought it was alright. It's not the most upbeat song. The song has so much feeling. I related to the words of her song so much at the time. Her song made me feel like I had a friend that empathized with what I was going through. I love Fiona Apple.

I think Not About Love unreleased version is the only song that is absolutely, unequivocally better than the album. That being said I also prefer Tymps unreleased over the studio. I've taken probably more time than a normal (non fiona superfan) listening to the songs that were changed but not a huge difference like Oh Well that if listened to back to back sound like not much was changed but if you listen to bits of each, side by side the album version is clearly better. Also keep in mind Jon Brion doesn't claim any of the unreleased versions. Neither does Fiona. They both say these were basically unfinished pieces of recordings and more than likely what happened was someone, maybe who had access to the studio, got them and kind of mixed them him or her self but still can't take credit for any of it because, well, stealing an artists unreleased stuff, tinkering with it then leaking it was cool for us but not to the artists. Fun fact.

This is the one that upset me. When I heard the new final version I thought it lost the magic this one has. It seemed like she was trying to make it commercial to be the single. Well it doesn't matter now because they're both good, and I'm glad this one is on KZbin.

This version is sooooooo much better than the released version. The ending has those November Rain violin dynamics that give us all the chills... while the released ending has those cheesy vocals. This one is far more emotional and real. I would imagine also because it was recorded in 2002... whereas many years passed when she recorded the released version... she had time to let this emotion wear off. This one is far superior.

I like both versions although i prefer the edited one and i gotta say i think a lot (but not all) of people just say they like the bootlegs more to be more indie and retain their cred. I've seen interviews with both fiona and jon brion saying they dont like the bootleg of extraordinary machine being out because it wasnt the sound either was after so what I'd really like to see is the completed brion version.

This version is HEAD and SHOULDERS better than track released on the album... Her producer made a bad call. The transitions are so much smoother...the vibes are mixed correctly behind the string section...the piano sustains on the discordant chords and is far more evocative...the dynamic build at the coda is perfection. This was the version they should have used

I like the tempo, the vibes, and the child-like backing vocals from the released version, and I like the ending in this one. @zachariot it depends on how you interpret the lyrics. i always thought she was referring to the love/hate relationship with her label especially the 'going by the boards' reference, and it's like her lament of the whole situation about having her album being shelved...i dunno, to me it's not so much about love and abandoned, as it is her view on the music industry and her place in it :)
