Hi Graham and Fiona, Re the FILM fused to windows.Give this a try Put a series of scratches in the film, then completely cover a small spot with a piece Of newspaper that’s been soaked in Eucalyptus Oil. Leave for a few hours or overnight. Try to get paper flush to glass so the oil penetrates Scrape off then wash with Very hot soapy Water.(gloves to protect your hands) Can’t hurt might help. It’s probably not the the film so much as the adhesive that bonds the film to the glass. If it works in small spot then ………. Hope this is of some use, Love from Jen in Australia
Dear Fiona you never cease to amaze me!! You truly are such a hard-worker!! Yay 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to you!! Much love and blessings as always!!🙌🏻🦋❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸

Depends on the type of Hardener, you might find that too much will leave pockets of un-reacted Hardener ... certain types are hygroscopic and make the finished laminates susceptible to deterioration due to moisture .... atmospheric moisture will gradually diffuse through the cured resin, degrading both adhesion and interlaminer strength .... Have you made any test specimens for long term exposure to prove your theory? ...
@lindalaw5466Ай бұрын
I think she has, it’s called the roof of the boat……..
@fionaheskethАй бұрын
You're spot on and we've had our issues with reactions, but after 21 years of experimentation I'm pretty good at guessing how much, how long to mix it, and how long I've got to get it on depending on temperature, humidity and atmospheric conditions, whether in UK or Spain. It's been a hell of a long road to get it right, but I'm pretty good at it now (patting myself on the back lol)

You are such a Boffin Stephen
@stephenmagnus9379Ай бұрын
@@grahamthebaronhesketh. during my 20 years in research in Adhesives and Composites, one of my research papers was on "Optimisation of the mix ratio of 2 part Epoxy Resin systems" ... this involved mixing and testing cured resin & hardener samples, with between + / - 15% of the manufacturers recommended hardener quantity. By use of primarily a Differential Scanning Calorimetry, i determined a) The optimum resin to hardener ratio ... b) A simpler and quicker way to test samples from Vital Production bonded items for quality assurance. The adhesive system we used had around a 1/3 extra tertiary Amines to promote hardening strength ... However, unreacted Amines are hygroscopic and readily absorb moisture, thus decreasing long term properties. By reducing the hardener ratio needed, we reduced the amount of unreacted Amines .... Below is the technical bit, explaining how tertiary Amines don't themselves react with the base resin ... Most primary amine curing agents that are used have more than one primary amine per molecule so that crosslinking and therefore network development occur. A secondary amine will react with only one epoxy group. The reaction rate of the secondary amine with an epoxy resin is much slower than that of a primary amine. In contrast, tertiary amines which have no active hydrogens, will not react with epoxy resins but can cure epoxy resins catalytically, resulting in homopolymerization. Tertiary amines also accelerate the cure of primary and secondary amines with epoxy resins.

@@stephenmagnus9379 Yes you certainly know your stuff Stephen. Helicopter blades are super critical to get everything right. Fiona just wants to keep rain water out of the boat.

I love watching you both, I've only come recently in the past month to watch you both. Do you know I feel welcomed, as if I'm with you, dropped by for a cup of tea, and we're having a quick gossip over the cups. Or I'm just passing, and you're filling me in. I feel included, and many other you tubers don't give that feeling, they're there for them, for theirselves. But I feel you two impart information, and share yourselves. It's so nice, and comfortable, the end of the video I feel, oh do I have to go? 😢. Much love to you both.
