In this episode we take a look at a class which focused on Fiore Spada A Uno Mano, or sword in one hand and covered Plays 1-5
It is important to note that sometimes things are initially taught differently to how they may ultimately become. Over many years we have developed particular methods to teaching some of Fiores Plays in ways that, for example, relative novices can more easily adopt and understand. Thus, a remainder that this video was made in a live class and intended as an overview rather than a demonstration of the actual Plays themselves.

Johannes Von Volker Hi! Glad the vids may be of some use! Where are you based? Ah, it’s not a dragon but. Wyvern. Wyverns have no feet and so cannot land and must always be airborne :) Unfortunately, our Wyvern logo is for use on members equipment only. But maybe one day...

It looks like the 4th and 5th plays involve stopping your opponent's cut with the weak of your blade. It looked kinda dubious to me, but I'm sure you all have tried this at full speed in sparring and such. Can you describe more how it feels or how it works out?

I’m not sure what you saw? The fourth/fifth play demonstrated here catches the strike on the strong/middle of the sword. Could you give a time stamp of where it is received on the weak? You wouldn’t try 4 or 5 if you had covered on the weak because you’ll be too far away for it. You’d be desperately reaching. You’d be better off going for 1-3.

Very nice! I like the intentional tie-in of the dagger material and talking about using the sword in one hand "as a tool" as in, there's no reason you would sit around sparring with one hand on a longsword. Isn't the second master more of a half-swording thing, though? I could see making an un-armored application valuable, though, so I get it.
