TheHumbleMarksman can you talk about if it was better/easier shooting with the red dot since it is positioned lower? This should be a clear advantage, no? I would think it would make it easier for new-to-red dot shooters. I think you completely missed talking about this obvious feature unless you believe that there is no difference in shooting with a high red dot vs a really low one. Thanks.
@TheHumbleMarksman4 жыл бұрын
Luis Victoria I don’t think it’s a big advantage beyond very early in the process if you have no iron sights. The problem with the pocket this low is the adjustability on the dot is maxed out - they have since changed the angle of the cut to make it have more flexibility. I would argue a high dot with BUIS is easier than a low dot with no BUIS. The presentation angle is the same as iron sights- that’s not as big an advantage as you would think because most iron sight shooters don’t have solid indexes - they steer the sights in every time (that’s what I did I later learned).

I'm with you on the recoil effect (and I do shoot a S2). I always hear people referring to the fact that more non-reciprocating mass "reduces" recoil. And it's funny because if you try to debate about it they will invoke "physics" as to what justifies what they are saying. Well, how ironically it is that it's exactly because of physics that what they are saying isn't entirely true. If we call "recoil effect" what you need to fully recover from between the moment you pull the trigger and when you're fully ready to pull it again (accurately), then the same mass which is your friend to reduce the perceived recoil in the first stage, becomes your enemy when you're fighting the inertia after the gun has completely cycled.... It would be only completely true that the non-reciprocating mass will help you with recoil, if that mass was to truly not move at all... which unless you have Hulk's grip strength, it will not happen :) I hear the same misconception about recoil springs too.
@AndrewWisler4 жыл бұрын
Marcelo Fartura I think of it not so much in terms of absolute recoil, but how quickly the slide cycles, and especially how consistently it returns to POA with you particular grip. I find tuning the recoil spring is the most important factor. I audition a couple different weight springs and watch how the gun recoils in slo mo, and also how it feels. But I’m kind of a dork.
@czarmorer4 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewWisler Yes, the recoil spring weight will determine how quickly the gun cycles completely. The heavier the weight the faster the gun will cycle, but the harder the slide will hit the front and therefore the deeper the nose dive will be, which will cost you time to stabilize and be ready to shoot again on target. A weaker/lighter spring will make the slide open faster, and close slower - the total cycling time here is longer, but you have less nose dive and therefore spend less time stabilizing to shoot again... Recoil springs also have to be calibrated to the load you're using, in order to maintain reliability of the cycling operation - Too heavy/too light of a spring for a certain load and you can have all sorts of trouble from extracting/ejecting to going back to battery...
@TheHumbleMarksman4 жыл бұрын
Finally getting around to the comments on this and you did not disappoint sir. I'm going to do a video on talking about recoil in pistols and how it relates to heavy guns - I may need to collaborate with you on that. You understand this on a level most don't. Most of the common KZbinr's understanding is "Heavy gun means less recoil" - yeah no.
@czarmorer4 жыл бұрын
@@TheHumbleMarksman I will be glad to help!
@ikefleetwood40534 жыл бұрын
I agree, I found my muzzle dipping hard when returning to battery after the shot due to heavy recoil spring. I opt for a light recoil spring with means the recoil impulse is stronger (rearward) but more controllable to reset for the next shot. this is nearly impossible to detect without slow motion video from a friend helping you. it actually feels softer shooting with heavier/stock springs. as for reliability, light spring doesn't affect ejection but it will affect loading a round out of the mag. I've gone too low to the point the slide drags pretty bad picking up around. probably go 1 weight more than that.

Now that CZ has released the Shadow 2 OR, does this custom gun really make much sense? Why not get the OR for $1000 less?
@TheHumbleMarksman4 жыл бұрын
So the out of the box gun is still going to need between $50 and $250 in parts to "optimize" it - plus $80 grips because the stock CZ grips are terribad. So drawing parity on those items it's still a big number but "like for like" not quite so severe. I think the window cuts and serrations do make the gun handle better than a stock shadow - personally. I personally think a stock shadow has pretty good trigger - made very good with $50 in parts. The bushing does tighten down accuracy to a pretty ridiculous level. It's all diminishing returns and were you fall on the curve. There's not a huge difference between them - but there is a difference. Biggest advantage of OR is you could shoot it as an irons gun if you wanted - but the F4E cut does make the dot ridiculously low.
@M1911jln4 жыл бұрын
I put some springs in my Shadow 2 that brought the DA trigger to 6lbs and the SA trigger to around 2 lbs. I can’t remember the cost for the springs, but it wasn’t much. I agree with you on the stock grips. I replaced mine with some LOK grips that a local competitor was selling for cheap. I suppose greater accuracy is useful (more useful in the hands of someone more skilled than I), but it does seem to be a matter of diminishing returns.
@ikefleetwood40534 жыл бұрын
the availability of the OR CZ model is compelling. but note it does not include an optic or any mounting plates you need, or a trigger job. in this case the listed price includes literally every possible Cajun Gunworks mod, including barrel bushing, and a SRO optic. on top of color finish, etc. if you all all that aftermarket up, a CZ OR model would probably be equal if not more money. SRO is 500-550, Cajun kit is 350-400, that's your 1000 right there. not counting grips, custom finish, etc.

Wow David, you ARE a bit of a malcontent at the beginning. LOL. Firstly a sweet paint job is not going to make any difference in the performance of a competition pistol, but taking a stock Optic Ready Shadow 2 (not a milled for an Optic Shadow 2 - yes, there is a difference between the two) and spending a couple hours with some micro grit polishing papers and polishing the critical internal contact points and changing out a few springs is going to make a world of difference. I swapped out the stock slide release control for a low profile or flat slide release, as do many other competition shooters, which allows you to get your grip up higher. Anyways, good video! I liked it and it didn’t give me any cause to unsubscribe. LOL! PS. Anyone that can’t swap out a trigger return spring at the range is a lemon.

My buddies can also do in similar time. If you find that it's difficult, stop, and try some different method. The trick is, after getting the tangs lined up, just press the spring coil down until you can slip the trigger pin in. That's it.

I live in CZ and have a couple of Shadow 2 ORs. I think the gun you reviewed is probably better- we don’t get the options of slide cuts and the ORs optic plate is sort of crap (on a par with Glock mos). Dreaming CZ will offer the OR in an Orange S2- the attention to detail may be better than normal crap CZ fit and finish.
@TheHumbleMarksman4 жыл бұрын
That's interesting to hear you say that - I was planning on purchasing an S2 OR for review early next year - maybe I'll go a different direction.
@czechtactical83884 жыл бұрын
In fairness I have not had issues with my ORs ( only 5k rounds through so far) but a friend with over 45k rounds through has been through an extractor and had POI shift from the SRO - firstly due to SRO windage walking (nail varnish fix) and then through SRO to base screws not holding and base to slide screws not holding - fix was to enlarge screws to 4mm and bond base also. The S2 is overall a great design and the factory slide is machined better than the original Shadows. Frames are still cosmetically imperfect and should be finished better, it bugs me but may not others. By going to a 9lbs recoil spring the slide auto forwards on a mag change - which can be useful. Think that I just have Primary Machine slide envy.

I meant that my shadow 2 has the same spot that isn’t smooth. I was a USPCA shooter and I was just explaining the price of the platform for the baby smooth action. My limcat is as custom as you get ask JJ’s uncle he built it. Thanks for the reply appreciate your information and honest opinions. Keep up the good work. @@TheHumbleMarksman AO1 LD is a rare pistol to see in the Wild. CZ Custom sometimes keeps one in their showcase. If ordered they truly build it when they get the order I'm not sure if they ship the one in their case and build another, many times online they show it Out of stock, so I'm guessing if they have it, it gets shipped and they start another. I've only see 2 one at my Gun Club and one at CZ Custom. When I bought my SP 01 Bull Shadow I got it out of their case then it showed Out of Stock for a few weeks.

It's kind of funny that a 2.5 lb trigger is light, but a Two-and-a-Half Pound gun is heavy. One finger vs your whole hand, heck 2 hands even. But, I get it. All that aside, will we get a comparison or a "my pick" comparison or thoughts video on this vs the Beretta? Which one do you enjoy more when you're doing some nice relaxing competition shooting?!
@ikefleetwood40534 жыл бұрын
@Mando sub 2 pounds is certainly possible for tuned up S2s, hand polishing smith work etc, or a heckofva lot of rounds/break in. Thats a question of how much more time a user wants to put in at home on the bench vs just shooting. A lot of ounces pull can go to the smith that day - Monday versus friday gun. The reduced reach, cleaner break, less takeup and creep, all better than stock due to the aftermarket internals. 4.5/4.75 DA pull is insane tho.

Although muzzle rise is a part of recoil, it is not the "total recoil" of the gun. Therefore you can not say that a heavier gun doesn't always recoil less, because it will always recoil less providing that you're using the same ammos. There are 3 things in a recoil: momentum(MV), impulse(FT), and energy(1/2MV^2). No matter what kind of gun that you are shooting, the momentum and impulse will always be equal among the guns that you're shooting, providing that you're using the same ammos. But the heavier guns will always have less recoil energy. The felt recoil is mostly recoil energy and impulse. Same numerical value of the impulses may felt differently depending on the duration of recoil. If a gun had more muzzle rise but it recovered sooner, then you may say it has less recoil. Again, if a gun had less of muzzle rise but it had sharper kick to the back, then you can say it has more recoil. Let me give you something to think about, a lower bore axis in a semi-auto pistol doesn't always means less muzzle rise, because the bore-axis and the axis of a recoil vector is not the same in most of the cases. However in case of the revolvers, they are the one and the same. Most of the shooters doesn't realize this fact.

@@TheHumbleMarksman Ok, did not think about the optic. But still, That price is crazy. even with the optiv for 500 Dollars that would mean that there is 1000 Dollars+ of work in that gun, which I cant see.

A PVD frame and slide with a custom pattern is $250, the milking package is like $400 grips are $75 - just the parts for the trigger job are like$250. $500 optic. It’s all there. You can disagree on the milling price but it’s way more extensive than a basic optic job.
@ikefleetwood40534 жыл бұрын
Another thing to consider is many people do all this work anyways, but from different suppliers with shipping charges, different wait times etc. if you parted all this out, same spec, and home brewed it shipping costs etc would eat you alive. Theres hidden benefits to 1 package from one shop.
