Fire Academy Week 10

Week ten of SMFR Fire Academy is all about wildland firefighting. The recruits take a trip to the Douglas County Law Enforcement Training Center to learn how to work with progressive hose line packs, do mobile attack and dig line.

Did 3 seasons on a wildland handcrew in California. Dug many miles of line and layed many miles of hose. The best part was saw operations. Surprised they don't use McLeods or Pulaskis anymore, look like hand tools are more specialized now. Best vlog yet. Keep one foot in the black.

I must admit, it feels so freaking relatable watching them do all that Bush work out there while I did it ALOT during the Australian Bushfire season.. needless to say I grew biceps and lost 100 tonnes in sweat! we use the use of the hand tools to say "Welcome to the Rural Fire Service, what if we said this is only the beginning?!" gets them everytime! ahaha. I love instructing in the NSW Rural Fire Service! :)

@@Solvang_circus ohh copy that. Then I wouldn’t recommend it. You need to be 100% for these jobs. I’m on a hotshot crew and it’s extremely taxing in every way

"just take the truck into the black" until the wind suddenly changes. Wildland firefighting, was the worst and scariest fires I fought. structures are easy, they stand still. Forests can quickly surround and trap you.

So Brush 36 does the Truck have a Pump-and-Roll System (where the Pump is hoked up to the Engine) or the normal Driving Engine and a separate Pump?

How can a fire apparatus, like an engine truck, pump water while is moving??? They have to disengage the traction to use the pump.

Most of the wildland fire apparatus have auxiliary water pumps separate from the vehicle motor.

@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO They have a second engine??? One for moving and the other for pumping??? I just know the Renault Camiva 180, wich is the most common in Chile. But you need to be stationed to pump water from the 4000 Lt tank.

@@alfe1402 They have a standard motor to drive and move the apparatus and a smaller motor mounted somewhere on the truck to pump water. Some of those can be started inside the cab, others are mounted on the rear of the truck and a firefighter has to step out to use the ignition.

Yes. At South Metro Academy Recruits are employees who receive pay and benefits while training.

Ryan Janowski I’m pretty sure all officers wear Black with a different shield like in New York Or Captains and Lt’s both wear red
