I think the bell at 18:40 is actually pretty common. My school has a bunch of those as well as 439Ds. I've seen lots of those in multiple different buildings. The GS bells at my school were installed in 1999, And the 439Ds were installed around 1993-1996.

@@nics-systems-electric gotta love ground faults lmao. Still would replace the system though on the grounds that it is obsolete hardware that was known for being not so good in the first place. An EST 4 retrofit would be perfect as EST sells a retrofit kit for the EST 2. I have seen the EST 4 in action, and even though I don’t like EST, I actually think that EST got it right this time. EST 4 is actually a nice system; it trips fast, is easy to use, and is VERY flexible for an alarm system. EST definitely took a massive leap in the right direction. A quick note though: in order to get the best performance, you may need to use the most recent detectors (SIGA optica), pulls (newest 278-SIGA), and A/Vs (Genesis G4) EST offers, because that was on the system i saw.
@nics-systems-electric2 жыл бұрын

@@nics-systems-electric TBH i would too after seeing ESTs reputation. The EST 4 seemed kinda convenient in this case though because of the upgrade retrofit kit and in the fact EST didn’t mess up this time. What a weekend; first a crashed gate, then some honey and now a missing bell(HAHA just kidding no not really) congratulations on finding the problem. Interesting that it was simply a pair of bad batteries and not something more major. I kinda figured you'd just get a "batt low" message as opposed to "gnd fault" but I guess that's just what the more recent EST2's do. Now when a storm hits this winter and the power goes out the kids will be safe knowing the backup batteries work. Too bad with the system at my work as it had an internal fault and now they have to swap the whole system out. However rumour has it that L series horns will be replacing the bells so hoping to score a 439D before the work is done. Congratulations also on your bell score. Can you do a sound level test of that GS bell? Every time I hear one I swear they seem so much louder than the 439Ds and MB-24s combined. Amazing work Nic and what a great start to September
@nics-systems-electric2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s quite common for that to be a popular place on the weekends nighttime specific maybe I will do another bell vs bell test The batteries probably were still holding fine voltage so there was no reason for a battery fault but that they had a hole in them so there it was leaking electricity to ground

The school really was lucky they had an EST 2 for 20 years. Thing shoulda broke long ago because EST was ridiculously cheap. I will admit though, EST’s new products like the EST 4 has surprised me. Its a lot better than you may think. If the panel is really screwed, EST sells an upgrade kit for upgrading from EST 2 to EST 4. Im still a hopeless simplex and notifier enthusiast, even though EST has surprised me and exceeded my expectations this time.
@SomeDudeWithAnExitSign2 жыл бұрын
EST has gotten a better but I don’t think they would top Simplex or Notifier anytime soon. EST needs to kill off the EST3 and the 3X and they would be good.
@achannelwithnopurpose19772 жыл бұрын
@@SomeDudeWithAnExitSign Totally agree! They have definitely improved their standards, but it will still take time to surpass Simplex and Notifier which are major innovators which are known for their top notch products. EST still needs to burn off its cheap reputation with its older software based systems. EST 4, the newest SIGA, and genesis products seem to be a massive step in the right direction though. Weatherdan posted a video of these products in action and i was ultimately surprised by the performance of the system. Again, EST just needs to be doing more of that quality production and they will be at the top with Simplex/Notifier.

Batteries, check first. Next, unplug each zone wire. Boom, the ground fault is gone when you unplug that wire in the zone with the fault, so you know it is on that zone immediately. Next, you are able to isolate the zone and look for the ground fault in that zone. Much quicker because you can find the right zone from the panel.

Lead Acid batteries aren't like lithium ion batteries and once a lead acid battery has a cell that dies the whole battery needs to be replaced because that cell will no longer hold a charge, common issue with lead acid batteries, and why you should make sure they don't run dead and if they do you replace them
